Segway® Tours – Gulf Shores

Become a local by touring downtown Pensacola, only a short drive from Gulf Shores, while leisurely riding along the historic streets. Your experienced local tour guide will lead you through the sites and sounds of Historic Pensacola and a view of breathtaking Pensacola Bay. You will visit many historical sites and neighborhoods, learn fascinating facts about the city of five flags. Tours are conducted daily and range from 1 to 3 hours. Learning Pensacola’s history will help you feel more like a local as we locals are proud of our past. Pensacola is the most fascinating city on the Emerald Coast. And locals, it’s always a great time to brush up on your history as well.

What to Expect on a Segway® Tour for Gulf Shores

Each tour includes a brief training session, which will allow you to learn the ins and outs of Segway gliding. These technologically advanced, eco-friendly machines are very intuitive and self-balancing. Learning to glide on a Segway usually takes only a few minutes! Once trained, your group will head out on the town to experience the sights and sounds of our beautiful city along Pensacola Bay! We are proud to offer Segway tours for Gulf Shores .

Important Information About Segway® Tours:

Reservations are required for Segway tours and glides. Please book ahead to ensure that you are able to schedule the dates/times you desire. A credit card is required for reservations. There is a 72 hour cancellation policy. If you do not cancel your tour within 72 hours Emerald Coast Tours reserves the right to charge your credit card for full price of the tour. Comfortable, athletic shoes are best for Segway riding. Please do not wear Shape Ups or other shoes with a heel.

We take groups of 5 at a time. Single gliders will be paired with another person or group. However, if you have a larger group of 5, with a week notice, we could accommodate more riders. Please call (850)417-9292 to make arrangements. Segway gliders must be between 100-260 pounds. Age range is limited to age 14 and older. Please arrive at least 15 minutes early to gear up for your tour!

M ount Dora, a delightful central Florida town just an hour from Orlando, is often called the “New England town of the South.” Its captivating lakeside setting, rich history, frequent celebrations, numerous festivals, scenic lakes, and exceptional boutique and antique stores offer an extraordinary experience.

Revel in enchanting sunsets, savor delectable meals, and immerse yourself in Mount Dora’s wonders as you discover ten reasons why it is truly remarkable.

1. Adventurous Segway Tours

Experience a remarkable outdoor adventure with CatBoat Adventure Tours in Mount Dora. Choose from their private powered catamarans or join the guided Segway tour. This tour goes beyond the popular downtown area, taking you through parks, natural areas, and residential neighborhoods.

A knowledgeable guide will share fascinating stories about Mount Dora’s history while the town’s holiday decorations create a magical atmosphere. The tour lasts approximately two hours, with stops for stretching and photo opportunities. Do not worry if you are a Segway newbie; they will teach you everything you need to know. You can see two women aged 50+ doing it; you can, too.

Glide through the enchanting canopies of live oaks, starting from the Mount Dora Boating Center & Marina at beautiful Lake Dora. Helmets are required and will be provided. Don’t miss out on this professional and exhilarating experience!

Pisces Rising is renowned for its exceptional live entertainment, complemented by a captivating patio and an exquisite bar. Opting for the latter, my companion Sara and I started our dining experience with one of the remarkable Pisces Rising charcuterie platters. It held delectable meats, tangy pickles, gourmet cheeses, and tantalizing accompaniments (including caper berries!). Our taste buds celebrated!

At the bar, due to a wait time of 90 to 120 minutes for a table, I savored the succulent black grouper with a perfect lemon beurre blanc sauce. The fish was served over Himalayan red rice—a delightful special-of-the-day. You’re sure to leave here full and happy.

3. Visit An Uplifting Local Store

On my travels, I have the pleasure of encountering remarkable individuals, including those who dedicate themselves to uplifting others without realizing their own brilliance. Allow me to present Lynn, the proprietor of Under the Cherry Blossoms —an exquisite emporium nestled in Downtown Mount Dora, showcasing arts, crafts, and various facilities crafted from salvaged or recycled materials.

Lynn fervently supports the empowerment of women and talented individuals who showcase their skills through these remarkable creations. Under the Cherry Blossoms epitomizes the essence of “buy and shop local.”

4. Stay in a 100+ Year Old Victorian Mansion

Discover the exquisite charm of Mount Dora’s Heron Cay B&B Inn . Experience the timeless elegance of this 100+-year-old Queen Anne Victorian mansion, adorned with priceless antiques and captivating Florida Highwaymen paintings.

Surge in the serene outdoor swimming pool amidst a picturesque array of vibrant flowers and plants on the grounds. Delight in a complimentary four-course gourmet breakfast while reveling in the grandeur of the opulent surroundings.

Choose from a selection of meticulously themed and decorated accommodations available on the first, second, or third floor. The Heavenly Suite, a lavish sanctuary boasting an expansive parlor sitting area (800 square feet) and a spacious bathroom, is yours to relish.

Mount Dora boasts several excellent city parks, each offering a unique natural ambiance. Evans Park and Gilbert Park are particularly beloved by locals and visitors. However, my personal favorite is Palm Island Park. It boasts rugged nature trails and a sophisticated raised platform overlooking the water.

This park is a haven for avid fishermen, as the fish are always biting! And remember to keep an eye out for the diverse bird species and fascinating alligators!

6. Eat Authentic German Fare

Mount Dora’s Bavarian Haus is a well-established downtown staple, boasting indoor and outdoor seating. With its live Bavarian music and authentic scratch-made German cuisine, the food and atmosphere never fail to impress.

Begin your dining experience with the yummy Kartoffelpuffer mit Apfelmus, a harmonious blend of potato pancakes and applesauce. My favorite entree is the Jägerschnitzel, succulent sliced pork adorned with a luxurious mushroom sauce. Or, you can savor the hand-breaded Schnitzel, available in pork or chicken, served with two sides of your choosing.

I recommend indulging in the house Spätzle, German egg noodles, and Rotkohl, a sweet red cabbage dish. Like many esteemed eateries in Mount Dora, Bavarian Haus observes Monday as their customary day of closure.

7. Dive Into Boutique Shopping

Mount Dora is an exceptional road trip or getaway destination, filled with captivating options for shopping, dining, and people-watching. Downtown Mount Dora showcases a charming selection of locally-owned shops, boutiques, and top-notch restaurants.

Explore the exquisite offerings at Papilio, Em’z on Fifth, Walk in the Woods, and Becker’s Best Shoes for fashionable attire and accessories. Pamper your beloved pets with delightful treats from Piglet’s Pantry Dog Bakery and indulge in luxurious bath products from Naples Soap Company . This Mediterranean and Italian eatery boasts extensive handmade creations, from tiramisu to chocolate lava cake, gelato to creme brûlée, and the classic NY cheesecake.

The Limoncello Mascarpone Cake I tried was divine! Its name perfectly captures its rich flavor, yet it remains light and fluffy with a sweet lemon sponge cake. Simply delicious!

For a quick and convenient stop, visit  Allyson A. Bake Shop , which specializes in exquisite baked goods like cupcakes, muffins, cookies, and scones. They also offer an array of tasty coffee and tea beverages, perfect for a fabulous breakfast, event, or indulgence.

9. Celebrate the Holidays Big Time

When I first moved to Florida, a local tour company whisked me and 66 passengers, transporting us three hours away to witness the awe-inspiring Christmas celebration in Mount Dora. I was left speechless! It even “snowed” on one of the busy streets.

The entire town extended a warm welcome, staying open late to host this enchanting festivity, primarily centered in the park back then. Today, Mount Dora has become a trendy Christmas destination, where downtown Donnelly Park dazzles with 2 million twinkling lights.

The festivities have expanded again, now encompassing Sunset Park (home to a magnificent tree) and the marina. It is a breathtaking exhibition of Christmas enchantment. I recommend venturing to Mount Dora if you share the same holiday enthusiasm.

10. Photograph the Mount Dora Lighthouse

The charming Mount Dora Lighthouse, which has been at Grantham Point since 1988, offers picturesque views of Lake Dora and delightful photo opportunities. While it primarily serves as a decorative structure, it also boasts a functional light for guiding nocturnal boat traffic.

My hotel accommodations and some meals were provided by Visit Florida. My Segway tour was hosted by the company. As always, opinions and reviews are 100% mine and unbiased.
