The Killers continued their UK stadium tour dates with the second of two nights at Emirates Stadium in London.

After incredible sets in Doncaster, Bristol , Coventry , Southampton , Middlesbrough and one at Arsenal's home ground the night before , Brandon Flowers and co delivered another gig at the venue for their throng of fans.

Find out what went down during their second show in London and how they mixed up their setlist.

As with their previous gigs in the UK so far, the Las Vegas rockers kicked off their set with My Own Soul's Warning before launching into Enterlude and When You Were Young.

However, for the first time on their tour so far, they made a noticeable changes to the start of their setlist, playing The Way it Was , as well as Miss Atomic Bomb and Cody within the first 10 tracks.

Quite surprisingly, Brandon Flowers and co. chose not to play setlist staple, Joy Division's Shadowplay but they did cover Ewan MacColl & Peggy Seeger's The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face , which has been given a healthy airing this tour so far.

Much to the delight of their London fans, Wonderful Wonderful favourite, The Man was given an outing during encore, which gave Flowers the perfect excuse to strut around in his gold suit- perhaps the most ostentatious he's worn all tour so far.

The Killers are preparing for a triumphant return to Manchester this weekend - with a huge stadium gig at the Emirates Old Trafford cricket ground. The Las Vegas rock lords stop off in Manchester amid their acclaimed UK and world tour.

Frontman Brandon Flowers, ever the imperious showman, is said to be in brilliant form, if the rave reviews from the band's shows in Sheffield and London are to be believed. Brandon has often referred to the UK as the band's "spiritual home" and if any city could lay claim to their main inspiration it's Manchester.

Their very name, The Killers, famously came from the fictional band in the video of New Order's Crystal, of course. So what can we expect from their big Old Trafford gig this weekend?

Read more : Manchester's "mad June" of events - and what it means for traffic, travel and hotels in the city

Looking at setlists from previous gigs fans will be delighted to hear that many of the band's biggest anthems will make it into the show - with Mr Britghtside and All These Things That I've Done looking like the likely finale tracks. But Hot Fuss aside, there is set to be plenty of showing from the band's other acclaimed albums including Sam's Town and Day & Age as well as their most recent studio outing Pressure Machine.

Who is the support?

killers tour 2022 setlist

Fans will want to get there early for this gig, because support comes from Stockport's very own rock idols Blossoms at the Saturday night show. Fresh from the release of their latest chart-topping album, Ribbon Around the Bomb, the rockers will be in buoyant form.

We can expect to hear some of the band's brilliant songs from the back catalogue like Charlemagne and Your Girlfriend, as well as a selection from their new album which was released in April to rave reviews.

Stage times

Doors will open at 5.30pm.

Stage times are always approximate, and subject to change.

5.30pm - doors open

7pm - Blossoms

8.45pm - The Killers

The Killers are currently touring the UK, and this setlist is taken from their June 4 gig at the Emirates Stadium in London. But naturally setlists are always subject to change at each gig.

My Own Soul's Warning

The Way It Was

Smile Like You Mean It

Shot at the Night

Somebody Told Me

Miss Atomic Bomb

For Reasons Unknown

A Dustland Fairytale

The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face

How to get there?

Fans are advised to travel to the show via public transport as there is no car parking available at Old Trafford Cricket Ground . Stretford, Old Trafford, A56 Chester Road and Altrincham Metrolink Line are all set to be busier as a result of the concert and other events happening around Manchester on Saturday - including Parklife at Heaton Park and Ed Sheeran at the Etihad Stadium .

TfGM has said that trams will be busiest from 4pm until 8pm and again at the end of the concert. Old Trafford tram stop is directly next to the venue, but gig-goers are being advised to also seek out stops within a short walking distance - such as Trafford Bar, Firswood or Wharfside. Fans can park for free at Parkway or Sale Water Park and use Park and Ride services to board the tram to Trafford Bar/Wharfside.

Fans can also park at Old Trafford Football ground, but parking is not free. The 255, 256, 263 and x50 bus services will also run within walking distance of Old Trafford.

Will there be road closures?

The roads around the stadium (Brian Statham Way, Great Stone Road, Warwick Road and part of Talbot Road at the front of the ground) will have closures in place during the concert. Brian Statham Way will be closed between 10.30am and approximately 11.30pm, Talbot Road and Great Stone Road will be closed at the end of the event (between 10.30pm and approx.11.30pm) to ensure safe transit of spectators.

There will be a diversion signposted via White City Way to Chester Road to bypass the event zone. The closed roads will be opened again when it is deemed safe.

Les killers rendent hommage aux beatles.

' src=

Les Killers ont ensuite joué « I Want to Hold Your Hand », qu’ils n’avaient encore jamais repris en concert (ils avaient déjà interprété « Helter Skelter », « Get Back », « In My Life », « Michelle » et « When I’m Sixty-Four »).

Outre « I Want to Hold Your Hand », ils ont également interprété « A Little Respect », un classique d’Erasure datant de 1988, ainsi qu’une longue série de leurs propres succès, dont « Somebody Told Me », « Read My Mind », « All Things Things That I’ve Done », « When You Were Young », « Human » et, bien sûr, « Mr. Brightside ».

Billy Joel et Rod Stewart jouent « Stay With Me »

Billy Joel Rod Stewart

Billie Eilish et Finneas O’Connell soutiennent Kamala Harris

finneas o'connell billie eilish kamala harris

Bob Dylan joue « All Along the Watchtower » pour la première fois depuis 2018

Bob Dylan

« Cela m’a vraiment bouleversé.

NUCLEAR-RISKS

Tomsk-7/Seversk, Russia

Nuclear facility

The explosion of a nuclear reprocessing facility in Tomsk-7 dispersed large amounts of radioactivity over an area of 120 km² , exposing tens of thousands of people to increased levels of radiation and contaminating air, water and soils for many generations to come. It is considered the most serious Russian nuclear accident after Chernobyl and the Kyshtym accident at Mayak.

Tomsk-7 was a “secret city” in Siberia until 1992, when it reverted to its historical name of Seversk. It housed several nuclear facilities for large-scale production of plutonium and uranium for nuclear fuel and weapons, including reprocessing of spent fuel. The closed city was home to about 100,000 workers and their families. One of the worst accidents in the history of the Russian nuclear industry occurred at the Tomsk-7 reprocessing facility on April 6, 1993. That day, workers were pouring nitric acid into a tank in order to separate plutonium from spent nuclear fuel. It is not clear whether the accident was caused by human or technical error, but it is believed that a lack of compressed air caused the mixture of nitric acid, uranium and plutonium to overheat and reach critical temperatures within a few minutes. The ensuing explosion knocked down walls on two floors of the complex, started a fire and released about 250 m³ of radioactive gas, 8.7 kg of uranium and 500 g of plutonium to the environment. This amounted to about 30 Tera-Becquerel (Tera = trillion) of beta- and gamma-emitters and about 6 Giga-Becquerel (Giga = billion) of plutonium-239. An area of 1,500 m² around the plant was severely contaminated, while the radioactive plume covered a total area of 120 km², where increased levels of radioactivity could be detected. The explosion at Tomsk-7 was ranked level 4 of the International Nuclear and Radiological Event Scale (INES), comparable to the Tokai-mura nuclear accident in Japan in 1999.

Health and environmental effects

Most acutely affected by nuclear fallout were the villages of Georgievka and Nadezhda. Radioactive snowfall in the days after the disaster created hot-spots with radiation levels of up to 30 µGy/h – approximately 100 times normal background radiation. Soils in the areas affected by radioactive fallout showed significantly increased levels of long-lived radioisotopes such as cesium-137 or strontium-90. Cesium-137 can cause solid tumors and genetic defects in offspring when inhaled or ingested through food or water, while strontium-90 is a known cause for leukemia.

With the help of foreign specialists, initial clean-up operations were able to collect and remove about 577 g of plutonium from the area around Tomsk-7. Interestingly enough, only about 450 g of plutonium had been present in the basin before to the explosion, suggesting unreported prior plutonium leaks from the facility. Even months after the explosion, snow samples continued to show increased levels of radioactive isotopes such as plutonium, uranium, zirconium, ruthenium, cerium, niobium and antimony, continually exposing the population to radioactivity. According to the Bellona Foundation, a Norwegian environmental NGO, about 30 major accidents occurred at the Tomsk-7 nuclear facility, releasing about 10 g of plutonium into the atmosphere each year. The NGO also documents large quantities of nuclear waste from 50 years of plutonium production, which have accumulated on the confines of the nuclear facility. Dumped into underground depots or pumped into uncovered holding pools, they pose a continued threat to health. In 2008, a study found increased levels of plutonium and cesium-137 in soils and water samples, suggesting further leaks.

Some reactors at Tomsk-7 were shut down in June 2008, following the 2003 agreement between Russia and the U.S. concerning the elimination of weapons-grade plutonium production. The reprocessing of spent fuel and the dumping of nuclear waste on the premises of what is now called the Siberian Chemical Combine continue to this day, however. Despite the findings of increased levels of plutonium, strontium, cesium and other radioactive particles in soil and water, no meaningful medical studies were performed on the local population. In 2001, a county court in Tomsk ruled on a lawsuit by contaminated inhabitants of the village of Georgievka against the Siberian Chemical Combine, deciding that the company was to pay each claimant a compensation sum equivalent of 860 US-Dollars. During the hearings, 14 of the 26 claimants passed away, according to the Bellona Foundation. Their health was compromised for the production of nuclear fuel and nuclear warheads. They, and everyone else in the area whose health was affected by the catastrophe at Tomsk-7, are also Hibakusha.

History of Tomsk Oblast

The development of this region began in the late 16th - early 17th centuries. The oldest settlement in the Tomsk region is the village of Narym, founded in 1596.

The town of Tomsk was founded as a military fortress by the decree of Tsar Boris Godunov in 1604. It was one of the outposts of the development of Siberia.

From 1708 to 1782, Tomsk was part of the Siberian province. In 1804, the town became the center of a separate Tomsk province, which included the current territories of the Altai krai, Novosibirsk, Kemerovo, East Kazakhstan, Tomsk regions and part of Krasnoyarsk krai.

In the 19th century, the growth of gold mining, smelting of metals, fur trade concentrated large capital in Tomsk, triggering a revival of trade. Important transport routes - the Moscow and Irkutsk tracts - passed through Tomsk.

In 1888, the first university beyond the Urals was opened in Tomsk, in 1900 - the Technological Institute, in 1901 - the first commercial school in Siberia, in 1902 - the Teachers’ Institute. By 1914, Tomsk was one of the 20 largest cities in the Russian Empire.

In 1925, the Tomsk Governorate was abolished and became part of the Siberian region. In the 1930s, Tomsk lost its administrative significance. In August 1944, the city became again a regional center.

During the Second World War, dozens of factories, educational, scientific, and cultural institutions were evacuated to Tomsk oblast and became the basis for the further development of the region in the postwar years.

In the 1950s, the first in the USSR nuclear center of the world level was created in Tomsk Oblast - the Siberian Chemical Combine. In the 1960s-1970s, oil production began on the territory of the region, a giant petrochemical plant was built - the Tomsk Petrochemical Combine.

Tomsk Oblast - Features

The length of the Tomsk region from north to south is about 600 km, from west to east - 780 km. Most of the territory is difficult to access because of taiga forests occupying about 60% of the region and marshes (28.9%). The Vasyugan swamp is one of the largest marshes in the world.

The climatic conditions of the southern and northern districts of the Tomsk region are markedly different. Almost the entire territory of the region is located within the taiga zone. The climate is temperate continental. The average temperature in July is plus 24 degrees Celsius, in January - minus 16 degrees Celsius. The climate in the northern part of the region is more severe, winters are longer.

The largest cities and towns of Tomsk Oblast are Tomsk (570,800), Seversk (105,200), Strezhevoy (38,900), Asino (24,400), Kolpashevo (22,200). Lake Mirnoye located in Parabelsky district is the largest lake. The main river, the Ob, crosses the region diagonally from the southeast to the northwest, dividing it into two almost equal parts.

The main industries are oil and gas, chemical and petrochemical, engineering, nuclear, electric power, timber industry, and food industry. All the machine-building and metal-working plants are located mainly in Tomsk and partly in Kolpashevo and Seversk. Oil is extracted mainly in the north-west and west of the region.

The main branches of agriculture are meat and dairy cattle breeding. Agricultural fields occupy about 5% of the territory. Wheat, flax and vegetables are grown in small amounts. Cattle-, pig-, sheep-, and goat-breeding are presented as well as poultry farming. Fur trade (squirrels, sables, musk-rats) and fur farming (silver-black fox) are also developed.

Tomsk Oblast - Natural Resources

Tomsk Oblast is rich in such natural resources as oil, natural gas, ferrous and non-ferrous metals, brown coal (the first place in Russia), peat (the second place in Russia), and groundwater. In the region there is the Bakcharskoe iron ore deposit, which is one of the largest in the world (about 57% of all iron ore in Russia).

Forests are one of the most significant assets of the region: about 20% (more than 26.7 million hectares) of forest resources in Western Siberia are located in Tomsk oblast. The timber reserves amount to 2.8 billion cubic meters.

In the Tomsk region there are 18.1 thousand rivers, streams and other watercourses with a total length of about 95 thousand km, including 1,620 rivers with a length of more than 10 km.

The main waterway is the Ob River. The Ob length in the region is 1,065 km. The main tributaries of the Ob flowing into it on the territory of the Tomsk region are the Tom, Chulym, Chaya, Ket, Parabel, Vasyugan, Tym.

Attractions of Tomsk Oblast

The sights of Tomsk Oblast include the harsh beauty of Siberian nature, the variety of winding rivers and canals, as well as monuments of wooden architecture, and other places that keep ancient legends about this land.

Undoubtedly, it is worth to visit Lake Kirek, one of the most beautiful reservoirs of the Tomsk region. It is located only 50 km from Tomsk. According to legend, a local millionaire drowned his diamonds here during the revolution in 1917.

About 40 km from Tomsk, there is a lake complex of the village of Samus consisting of seven lakes. These lakes are known for their very dark water, which is explained by the streams flowing into them from peat bogs.

Near the village of Kolarovo, located 33 km south of Tomsk, there is Siniy (Blue) cliff. It is a three-kilometer precipice descending to the Tom River. The cliff got its name due to the gray-blue shale that covers it. Several centuries ago, after the founding of Tomsk, a watchtower was installed on the cliff, from which signals were sent to the fortress.

At the source of the Berezovaya River, 40 km southeast of Tomsk, there is such an attraction as the Talovsky bowls, a natural monument of national importance. These are huge natural figures in the form of vessels of oval form, covered from the inside by birnessite - a rare mineral.

There is a tourist attraction of a global scale in the Tomsk region - the Vasyugan marshes, the largest marsh complex in the world. It is also called the “Russian Amazon”, because the Vasyugan marshes are not inferior to the famous South American river by their scale.

To the collection of sights of Alexandrovsky district of the Tomsk region, the most distant from the regional center, we can add Lake Baikal, the namesake of the famous lake, Goluboye (Blue) Lake, Malyye mountains (highlands) in the valley of the Vakh River and the Paninsky reserve, where the ancient burials of the Khanty and Ostyaks are preserved.

On the right bank of the Ob River, more than 200 km from Tomsk, the village of Mogochino is located. St. Nicholas Convent can be found here.

In Tomsk itself, plenty of monuments of wooden architecture deserve attention. In total, there are more than 700 objects, including 109 monuments of federal and regional significance.

Also in the Tomsk region you can visit more than 100 museums (most of them are located in Tomsk). The most popular museums are the Museum of History of Tomsk, the Memorial Museum “The NKVD Investigative Prison”, the Museum of Wooden Architecture, the Tomsk Regional Art Museum.
