Radisson Slavyanskaya Hotel & Business Centre

How do i get to the hotel from domodedovo airport.

By taxi Official taxis from the airport currently cost around $50 or $70, depending on the class of car, and the drive to the Radisson Slavyanskaya will take around 90 minutes. You can also order a transfer with a driver to meet your plane here .

By train The Aeroexpress rail link is probably the fastest way to reach downtown Moscow. Trains run from Domodedovo to Pavelets Railway Station. The service runs every 30 minutes daily from 6am to 12am, the journey takes 40-50 minutes, and standard adult tickets cost around $11, with discounts for small children, family tickets, and first class tickets available. Then take the brown circle line from Paveletskaya Metro Station and travel clockwise four stops to Kievskaya, which is only a few steps from the Radisson Slavyanskaya.

By bus Buses run from Domodedovo (the stop is between exits 2 and 3 of the arrivals lounge) to Domodedovskaya Metro Station in the south-west of Moscow. The regular bus service runs from 6am to 12am daily at 15-minute intervals. Tickets cost less than $4, and the journey takes 25-30 minutes. There is also a slightly more expensive (and slightly faster) minibus shuttle service that runs every 15 minutes, with less frequent services throughout the night.

Ticket prices for the Trans-Siberian Railway also depend on the current ruble exchange rate.

Is the Trans-Siberian Railway expensive?

Before starting on your Trans-Siberian Railway adventure you naturally want to know what the entire trip will cost. Although this sounds like a simple question, it is pretty difficult to answer. The Trans-Siberian Railway price of travel depends on the following factors:

  • Which travel class do I want to use? The price for a first class ticket is about three times the price of a 3rd class ticket
  • Am I willing to buy the tickets myself and assume responsibility for the organisation of the trip?
  • How many stopovers do I want to make? The more breaks, the higher the total price.
  • What sort of accommodation do I want? Will it be a luxury hotel or will a hostel dormitory be sufficient?
  • What tours and excursions would I like to go on?
  • What is the current exchange rate for rubles?

Basically, everything from a luxury to a budget holiday is available. If you buy yourself a 3rd Class nonstop ticket at the counter, a few hundred Euros will cover the price. All you will experience is a week on the Trans-Siberian train and will see nothing of the cities on the way. There is, however, any amount of room for upward expansion. Everyone makes different choices about which aspects they are willing to spend money on. I personally prefer to save money on accommodation and railcar class, visit as many cities and do as many trips as possible. To enable better classification of your travel expenses I have contrasted two typical traveler types. In the third column you can calculate the total cost of your own journey on the Trans-Siberian Railway. Please keep in mind that these are only rough estimations and not exact prices.

The all-in costs seem fairly high at first. However, they cover everything and it is quite a long journey taking four weeks. Many people forget to consider that when looking at the list. We should also deduct the running costs for food and leisure at home. I think most visitors to this page will classify themselves somewhere between the two categories, that is around the € 2,000 – € 2,500 range. When comparing these prices with other travel packages, you get the impression that it is hardly worthwhile travelling individually on the Trans-Siberian Railway. Please keep in mind that most packages last no more than 14 days and you are herded like cattle through the most beautiful locations.

If you spend less time on the Trans-Siberian Railway you will, of course, pay less. I chose this particular travel length because I prefer not to do things by halves. If you fulfill your dream of travelling on the Trans-Siberian Railway, enjoy it and don’t rush things. But it’s up to you, of course. Try playing around with the form a bit to find the appropriate price for your trip.

Ukraine war latest: Russian drones 'stray onto NATO soil', as Moscow claims to have control of town just 15km from key city

NATO members Romania and Latvia report that Russian drones may have crashed on their soil during overnight attacks on Ukraine. Meanwhile, Russia claims to have captured Novohrodivka - a town just 15km from the key city of Pokrovsk.

Sunday 8 September 2024 16:30, UK

The city of Pokrovsk has been the centre of strong attacks by the Russian army in recent weeks. Pic: AP

Thanks for following along today.

Today saw further Russian advances into Donetsk - as a looming direct assault on the key logistics hub of Pokrovsk draws closer.

All indications suggest that Ukraine's Kursk operation has not deterred Russia's military command from targeting the city.

Elsewhere, Kyiv and Moscow continued to trade drone attacks across the border, with a number of fatalities in Ukraine.

And on the international scene, under-fire German Chancellor Olaf Scholz called for a renewed effort to bring peace to Ukraine.

We'll be back tomorrow with more updates.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has called for a renewed effort to bring peace to Ukraine.

Speaking to broadcaster ZDF in a televised interview, the German leader said he and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had both agreed in recent talks on the need for a new peace conference that would include Russia.

"I believe that now is the time to discuss how to arrive at peace from this state of war, indeed at a faster pace," Mr Scholz said.

Ukraine in June hosted delegations from 92 countries at a first summit in Switzerland to advance its blueprint for peace, but notably did not invite Russia.

The chancellor is under significant pressure in Germany after all three parties in his centre-left coalition suffered significant losses in regional state elections, while groups who oppose further funding for Ukraine won more votes.

Overnight, at least two people were killed and four more were injured by Russian air attacks in the Sumy region of Ukraine.

These images show firefighters attending the scene and looking for survivors.

The number of people killed in a Russian attack on a Ukrainian military academy in Poltava has risen to 58, the governor has said.

The official number of dead after Tuesday's attack stood at 55 until this morning, when three more people died in hospital, Filip Pronin said.

Funerals were held yesterday for some of the dead.

Ukraine's first lady had said the attack on the academy had also seen ballistic missiles strike a nearby hospital.

Shortly after Romania reported that a Russian drone entered its airspace and was looking for fragments on its own soil (see 12.41pm post), fellow NATO ally Latvia has done the same.

"On 7 September (yesterday), a Russian drone has fallen in Rēzekne region," a statement from the country's defence ministry read .

"It entered our airspace from Belarus," it added.

"The national armed forces are acting in accordance with the established procedures, including informing the NATO command."

Latvia has been a staunch supporter of Ukraine since the Russian invasion in February 2022 - with President Zelenskyy keen to point out that, should his country fall, countries such as Moldova, Estonia and Latvia would be at risk from further Russian expansion attempts.

Russian shelling has killed three women in a small village in the Donetsk region, the local governor has said.

Vadym Filashkin said Russian forces hit the village of Cherkaske with cluster munitions this morning, killing the women, aged 43, 45, and 53.

The attack also injured a man, and damaged at least nine private houses and cars, he added.

It comes after at least two people died and four injured by overnight Russian air attacks on the Sumy region (see 7.36am post).

By Deborah Haynes , security and defence editor

The head of the CIA has warned that any move by Iran to supply Russia with ballistic missiles for its war in Ukraine would be a "dramatic escalation" - but Ukrainian sources say this has already happened.

It is part of a pattern of ever-tighter cooperation between Moscow and Tehran which has already seen the Iranian regime transfer huge quantities of killer drones, ammunition and artillery shells in return for cash and help from Russia on improving its own military technology and manufacturing capabilities.

This includes the alleged gifting by the Kremlin to Iran of captured Western weapons, such as the N-LAW anti-tank missile.

Read more from Haynes here .

A Russian drone violated Romanian airspace during overnight attacks on Ukraine, according to officials.

The incident occurred as Russia carried out attacks on "civilian targets and port infrastructure" across the Danube River in Ukraine, Romania's ministry of national defence said.

Romania deployed F-16 jets in response and NATO allies have been informed, it added.

Romanian emergency authorities also issued text alerts to residents of two eastern regions, and authorities are now looking for drone fragments that may have landed on its soil.

Since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, Romania has confirmed drone fragments on its territory on several occasions, most recently in July this year.

To great surprise among allies and enemies alike, Ukraine has managed to successfully launch - and maintain - a land grab of Russian territory.

For more than month, Kyiv's troops have occupied a significant portion of the Kursk region - up to 1,300sqkm if Ukrainian estimates are to be believed.

While holding the land opens up the prospect of a territory swap later down the line, one of the shorter-term aims was to force Russia to redirect its considerable forces inside Ukraine a little closer to home.

But are Russian troops actually being pulled out of Ukraine and away from their previous objectives?

Ukraine's GUR military intelligence chief Lieutenant General Kyrylo Budanov said yesterday that the invasion had signalled theatre-wide impacts on Russian offensive operations.

He claimed Ukraine had successfully disrupted Russian plans for the rest of August, but admitted that Russian military command is still committing most available manpower to achieve their objectives in Russia's "main direction".

He was almost certainly referring to Pokrovsk.

The city has been under aerial bombardment and is slowly being advanced upon by Moscow's troops, with the nearby town of Novohrodivka and village of Kalynove claimed by the ministry of defence in the last two days alone.

It's home to a major logistics hub used by Ukrainian forces, which services the eastern region of Donbas.

Analysts, including experts at the US-based Institute for the Study of War (ISW), have noted intensifying Russian operations around the city are taking place in spite of the Kursk invasion.

Interestingly, "ISW has not observed intensified Russian offensive operations in other frontline areas in Ukraine" - suggesting that the Kursk operation has had at least some impact in forcing Moscow to redirect its forces.

However, Moscow's military command has "almost certainly decided to prioritise Russian advances near Pokrovsk" and is "committing available manpower and materiel to the area at the expense of Russian offensive operations in other directions".

Can Russia capture Pokrovsk and defend Kursk at the same time?

Russian military bloggers don't seem to think so.

Voenkor Kotenok claimed manpower constraints meant it was unlikely that Russia could claim Pokrovsk and kick Ukraine's forces out of their defensive positions and back across the border.

He also claimed Russian forces are continuing offensive operations around Pokrovsk despite being "exhausted" and "exsanguinated".

ISW suggested that Russian forces will likely eventually take the city, but there is a possibility that troops will completely tire before then.

Watch: Russian forces fight in Kursk region

Will winter impact fighting?

Winter is not far away now and conditions along the front will be massively impacted.

Lie Gen Budanov said yesterday it would complicate Russian operations, but did not think that it would stop them completely, comments echoed by the ISW.

"The fall mud season has historically hampered Russian and Ukrainian ground manoeuvre, but periods of prolonged freezing temperatures that typically begin in late December freeze the ground and allow armoured vehicles to move more easily than in autumn and spring months," ISW said.

"Fall and winter weather conditions will likely complicate Russian and Ukrainian battlefield activity, but are very unlikely to completely stall activity along the frontline."

Russia is waging a "reckless campaign of sabotage" across Europe, the heads of MI6 and the CIA warned.

Sir Richard Moore and Bill Burns also said the UK and the US faced an "unprecedented array of threats".

No Time to Run: Russian Missiles Hit Ukraine City Just After Sirens Sound

More than 50 people were killed by two high-speed missiles that hit a military academy in the eastern city of Poltava, one of the most lethal Russian strikes in the war.

  • Share full article

A partly destroyed building with two people wearing rescue helmets on an upper floor.

By David Guttenfelder Yurii Shyvala Maria Varenikova and Marc Santora

David Guttenfelder reported from Poltava, Ukraine.

Russian missiles struck a military academy in eastern Ukraine on Tuesday only minutes after air-raid alarms blared, killing more than 50 people, wounding many others and underscoring Moscow’s superior firepower in one of the war’s deadliest attacks. Ukraine’s president said a hospital also was hit.

Rescue workers in the eastern city of Poltava described scenes of dismembered bodies pulled from the rubble of the school, which Ukrainian news outlets identified as the Poltava Institute of Military Communications.

The entire area was littered with shattered glass, with nearby high-rises missing windows and doors. By some accounts more than 200 people suffered injuries, overwhelming hospitals.

Denys Kliap, the 26-year-old director of Free and Unbreakable , a volunteer emergency response team, was asleep when the first blast rocked him out of bed. “As soon as it happened, we went straight to the site,” Mr. Kliap said. “When we arrived, the only thing I remember was the pile of bodies scattered all over the territory of the institute.”

While he has seen many horrific scenes, the devastation after Tuesday’s strikes was shocking, he said. He recalled bodies being pulled from the rubble “without legs, others without arms, some even without heads.”

The strike was a demoralizing blow to Ukraine, coming as its troops have been retreating from relentless Russian advances along the war’s main front in the Donbas region.

“Russia is taking away our most valuable asset, our lives,” Ukraine’s first lady, Olena Zelenska, said of the missile strike.

The attack on Tuesday extended a wave of Russian assaults on cities across Ukraine that began a week ago and that have been among the largest since Russia’s invasion in February 2022.

President Volodymyr Zelensky said the strike had been carried out with ballistic missiles, which can travel at supersonic speed and reach a target anywhere in Ukraine in a matter of minutes.

Vladimir Rogov, a Kremlin-appointed occupation official in southern Ukraine, claimed in a post on the Telegram messaging app that the military school hit in the missile strike offers training in radar and electronic warfare.

Witnesses said the strikes, one after the other, had come shortly after the air raid sirens sounded. The Ukrainian Air Force said that the short time between the warning siren and the strikes demonstrated the speed of the missiles, which arrived “literally a matter of minutes” after launch.

Poltava is a little more than 100 miles from the Russian border.

Ukraine has pleaded since the outset of Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022 for more tools to defend its skies from Russian missiles, and on Tuesday Mr. Zelensky took to social media to issue a fresh request for more aid. “Ukraine needs air defense systems and missiles now, not sitting in storage,” he wrote.

The only proven defense against ballistic missiles, Patriot missile systems , were sent from the United States and Germany but did not arrive until the spring of 2023 and Ukraine says it needs more.

Mr. Zelensky has said he desperately needs at least seven Patriot batteries to fend off attacks across the country. Germany has sent three and, in July, President Biden announced the deployment of a second Patriot missile system from the United States. Other American allies also have Patriots: Romania has pledged one, and the Netherlands has given parts of the complex system. U.S. officials have said they hope European powers will send more.

It was unclear if Ukraine used any of those Patriot batteries to try to fend off Tuesday’s attack in Poltava.

A number of questions about the strikes, and the high death toll, remained unanswered on Tuesday.

Just after the missiles struck, there were reports in the Ukrainian media that cadets had been lined up outside the military school. Mr. Rogov also claimed the missiles had hit cadets gathered for an event.

But Dmytro Lazutkin, the spokesman for Ukraine’s defense ministry, denied on national television that the victims had been participating in a parade or ceremony, saying that classes were underway when the air raid sirens sounded.

Since the start of the war, Ukraine has banned large gatherings, including at sports stadiums and large concert venues. But large numbers of people still congregate in malls, schools and markets.

In recent weeks the pace of the war has accelerated in Ukraine, both in the air and on the ground.

Russian advances in the direction of the eastern city of Pokrovsk, a vital logistics hub, have prompted local authorities to urge civilians to evacuate and the Ukrainian military to send reinforcements.

The capture of Pokrovsk by Russian forces would be their biggest gain in the region since they seized Avdiivka in January and February after intense ground fighting and bombardment. It also would bring Russian forces one step closer to achieving a key goal for President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia: full control of the Donbas .

Mr. Putin was in Mongolia on Tuesday, some 3,000 miles from the front lines of the Ukraine war. He said nothing in public about Ukraine, according to Kremlin transcripts of his remarks.

Attempts by Ukraine to divert the focus of war have so far not borne fruit. The incursion into the Kursk region of Russia in early August by Ukrainian forces drew Russian reinforcements but not from the front lines in eastern Ukraine.

Mr. Zelensky on Tuesday said the Ukrainian offensive in Kursk was going “according to plan.” He told NBC News in an interview Tuesday that Ukraine would hold onto Russian territory for an unspecified amount of time. “For now, we need it,” he said, adding that it was part of a “victory plan.”

The Ukrainian military has also for months been targeting Russian oil and gas facilities with drone attacks. But the campaign has not yet had a demonstrable effect on the fighting in the Donbas.

Ukraine had hoped that the long-awaited arrival of Western-supplied F-16 fighter jets would assist in repelling Russian attacks. That effort suffered a blow last week when one of the warplanes crashed while defending against an intense Russian aerial attack, in what may have been a friendly-fire incident .
