Detroit Red Wings mourn death of former equipment aide: 'Just a vibrant part of our staff'

The Detroit Red Wings are mourning the death of Dan Kerstetter, a Michigan State Police Officer who a decade ago spent three years working for the team.

Dan Kerstetter died Sunday after being struck by a car on the side of Interstate 75 Downriver on Friday, according to officials. A Motor Carrier Officer with the Metro North Post was stopped on the side of I-75 northbound near Dix in Lincoln Park conducting a traffic stop, when his patrol vehicle was struck at around 8:30 a.m.,  Michigan State Police Second District said in a post on X .

From 2012-15, Kerstetter worked as an assistant equipment manager for the Wings.

"We're all very sad and shaken by what has happened," longtime Wings equipment manager Paul Boyer told the Free Press on Sunday. "He was a good friend to all of our staff. He was a personal friend of mine.

"We've very sad. We're sad for his family. There's no words that can say it. We're all just shaken."

Boyer said Kerstetter and his brother, Billy, helped out the Wings working the visitors' room at Joe Louis Arena when Kerstetter became a full-time member of staff.

"We had a vacancy and we needed someone to drive the truck and do the pickups and he was available and it just kind of stemmed from that," Boyer said. "It was like every other hockey job — you're in the right place at the right time.

"He was a great worker. We really cherished our time with him. He made us laugh. He fit in well."

After Kerstetter left, the two stayed in touch.

"I would see him around the neighborhood," Boyer said. "He was doing his own thing, but he was a personal friend and I would bump into him a lot here in Grosse Pointe — we've got mutual friends and mutual family friends. His sister and my wife are good friends."

It was Boyer's wife who told him the news of Kerstetter's passing.

"He was a vibrant part of our staff."

My Bad experience with travelwings

I've been working in Dubai for the past two years. Today, I attempted to book tickets for my family to visit Dubai. I opted to use Tabby to access 0% interest fee installment plans to better manage my finances, aiming to shield my family from any financial strain and ensure their happiness, like many other middle-class individuals might. I made several calls to customer care between 11 pm and 1 am, continuously discussing the price difference in payments. After negotiating with the staff, I confirmed the travel dates for my family - departing on May 1st, 2024, and returning on June 6th, 2024, for one adult and one six-year-old child. Once the payment link was sent and the transaction was successfully completed, I promptly called back to inform them of the payment and requested the issuance of the tickets. They assured me they would call back within 30 minutes. Assuming all necessary documents and details had been provided, I briefly stepped out. Upon my return, I noticed a missed call and promptly returned it, requesting my tickets. They informed me they needed to confirm some details and then dropped the bombshell that there would be an AED 360 charge for a price change. I was baffled. Why should I be charged for a price change when I had immediately informed them of the payment and they had acknowledged it, promising a callback? It made no sense to me why they would wait 30 minutes only to demand a fee for a supposed price change. I checked the website myself and found no change in the price. Despite my efforts to reason with them, they remained adamant. Eventually, after providing screenshots and video evidence, they relented. I suspect there may be a chance of opportunistic price adjustments aimed at collecting extra money from customers, which seems to be outside of the company's internal controls or strategy. Consequently, this experience has led me to the decision that this will be my first and last time booking tickets through Travelwings. As educated individuals contributing to the betterment of society, our aim should be to simplify processes, not create unnecessary trouble for others. I've spent approximately three hours on the phone with them, being put on hold multiple times, disrupting my sleep. It's now 2:13 a.m., and I'm typing this letter.

WORST AGENCY. Do not use Travel Wings

This is about the worst agency I have ever booked flights with. I booked a Lagos to Ilorin flight in March 2024 which I changed the travel date for (twice). The delayed responses were a big issue. I was charged two different amounts for flight date change - first time on March 19 I paid N35,000 and second time on March 24 I paid N20,000. Why is there no fixed amount for date change? RED FLAG. Also, there is no contact number to reach any customer service representative on phone. You just have to WhatsApp them and pray they respond. Responses usually take a whole day if you’re lucky or 2-3 days if you’re unlucky. I was NOT responded to on time. Currently as I write this review, I am still waiting for a refund on the air peace flight which was eventually cancelled by air peace. Because I had booked this ticket through travel wings, air peace refused to issue my refund. Today marks the 9th day since I emailed travel wings to get this refund processed. NO REFUND FROM travel wings nine days later and they have stated that they will be deducting fees from my refund (WHY?) This flight was cancelled by air peace and not my fault. I AM EXPECTING A FULL REFUND FOR THE FIRST LEG OF THIS TRIP SINCE IT WAS CANCELLED BY THE AIRLINE. Why is travel wings trying to deduct fees from my refund? Let me repeat this again to everyone: AVOID TRAVEL WINGS. My PNR is 17K6J2 and please clarify why I am not receiving a full refund for the first leg of my trip that was cancelled by Air Peace. If I paid 142,000 naira for a round trip ticket and the first leg was cancelled by the airline, my refund should be 71,000. PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS AGENCY.

The issues you've encountered with Travel Wings are concerning, particularly the lack of communication, delayed responses, and discrepancies in charges for flight changes. It's unacceptable that you're still waiting for a refund for the cancelled Air Peace flight, especially considering it wasn't your fault. Be careful, the price online is not the price

Booked flights on their website.. amount came off my credit card and the booking was confirmed, great... or so I thought. Vinay called me back to say the flight amounts changed... the website is not "official", they are just a broker and the prices can change between when you pay travelwings and when they book with the airline, so he had to charge me an extra R3,600. Strange.. and expensive, but... what alternative did I have? The alternative he gave me was that he can refund... and refunds take 4 weeks, so I didn't really have a choice. On the phone Vinay confirms, flights booked, all good. Or so I thought. I was wrong. I got an email from Travelwings the next day saying the flight is cancelled due to non-payment. I confirmed with my bank that the money left my account. Travelwings had a long explanation about how the money charged on their website doesn't even go to them, it goes directly to the airline. They can't see my transactions, because it went to the airline, so he charged me again over the phone, another R21,000 for the flight. As of right now, I have paid R45,600 for a flight that was originally shown on their website as R21,000 at time of checking out. My warning to all consumers, do not expect to get the price you see during checkout, there is no guarantee. You have to pay, and only then will they tell you the price. Rather go to a normal site where you get the price you see.
