Eminem photographed by David McFarlane whilst he performs at the SkyDome stadium (now known as the Rogers Centre) in Downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on October 26, 2000 as part of the Anger Management Tour.

Additionally photographed in concert is Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit, who were also on the line-up for the tour, with special guests Papa Roach and Xzibit.

(Via CNN—October 26, 2000): Canadian officials say they're trying to find a way to prevent rap star Eminem, a Michigan native, from performing at the SkyDome in Toronto on Thursday night.

Ontario Attorney General Jim Flaherty says he's reacting to complaints that Eminem's lyrics promote violence against women, and has put government lawyers and federal immigration officials on the case.

He plans to go on with the show, despite the controversy.

"Eminem's plan is to entertain his fans," says spokesman Dennis Dennehy, "and people who don't like it don't have to go."

Limp Bizkit's Anger Management Tour

Hot on the heels of its new album’s recent million-selling bow, rap-metal noisemakers Limp Bizkit blew into town Tuesday with their “ Anger Management Tour” package, which despite its parent-alert name was actually a fairly decent and little-threatening evening of hard rock and hip-hop. Little musical ground was broken, but all four acts delivered the rage, noise, beats and bad attitude that the kids these days can’t seem to get enough of.

Limp took the stage, which was a giant replica of one of those Japanese transformer action toys, with bright flames licking the ceiling and loud fireworks exploding overhead.

Opening number “Hot Dog,” from the band’s recent No. 1 seller “Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water” (Flip/Interscope), featured a record-setting use of the “F” word, which the crowd was more than happy to shout back at vocalist Fred Durst.

Popular on Variety

“Show me what you got,” the red-capped front man urged, which earned him his nightly look at the scores of young ladies who lift their shirts for him.

Despite the tour’s scary name, Durst, whose sore throat caused the recent cancellation of a number of shows, wasn’t up to many of his usual provocative tricks. Other than baiting Christina Aguilera (yawn) during the introduction to one song, and criticizing Baha Men for their hit “Who Let the Dogs Out,” he was on what could be described as his best behavior.

Playing their simple fusion of hip-hop, metal and punk that’s come to be known as rapcore, Limp offered a 90-minute set of tracks from their last two hit albums that was short on songcraft and subtlety but packed with plenty of energy and enthusiasm.

The relatively catchy entries “My Generation” and “Rollin’,” from the new album, were the best of the bunch, though most of the tunes tended to blend into one big rumble.

Rapper Xzibit, who opened the show with a 20-minute set, joined Fred and Limp Bizkit during their encore for the song “Getcha Groove On.”

Second-billed rapper Eminem was his usually foul-mouthed self, racing about the large stage and calling out all his enemies. He started his hour-plus set by repeating numerous times the phrase “don’t fuck with me,” and later told a story of how the cops had tried to get him to admit to some crime that, of course, he hadn’t committed. An appearance by singer Dido for a pleasant version of the hit single “Stan” made up for much of the rest of Em’s tired shtick.

Generic hard-rockers Papa Roach also played, but registered as little more than unpleasant noise. One or two catchy tracks couldn’t make up for their utter lack of creativity.

The tour hit the L.A. Forum on Friday, with Limp Bizkit, Godsmack, and DMX on the bill.

Eleven Angry Men Vent in New Jersey

By Pat Charles

Pat Charles

It’s a good thing Limp Bizkit aren’t touring under the “Family Values” banner anymore. Sometimes it’s better to skip the nudge and wink and call things straight — hence the no-bullshit moniker for this year’s model, the Anger Management Tour . Consider the line-up: West Coast battle-rapper Xzibit, who was abused as a child; Papa Roach, who sing heartfelt, noisy anthems of teen suicide and broken homes; and Limp’s co-headliner Eminem , whose venomous raps about his estranged mother and his now-estranged wife have landed him in the courtroom.

Needless to say, there was more than enough anger to go around for the sold-out crowd at the tour’s opening night at the Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford, N.J. Just how much of it the crowd could actually manage was another story.

The first blast of rage came from Xzibit, whose gravel-like vocals moved stealthily yet forcefully to the grittiest of beats. Although the rapper spent less than half an hour venting his deadly diatribes on stage, it gave everyone a firsthand glimpse of the darkness waiting to be unveiled come December when his new album drops.

Papa Roach’s high-voltage set, which was almost as short as Xzibit’s, was diluted by cluttered sound. Coby Dick’s agonized outcries had trouble breaking free from the distorted acoustics that were blasted by his bandmates. But when the group sounded off with the anthemic “Last Resort,” the crowd completely took over, helping boost the troubled set.

When both the floor and the seats swelled up with a sea of red baseball caps and fake Slim Shadys, the arena was at capacity for the remainder of the night. After a Blair Witch -meets-Slim Shady video was played to introduce Eminem’s set, the curtains dropped and Marshall Mathers appeared on stage sporting overalls, holding a chainsaw, wearing a white hockey mask and standing in front of a wooden house and a yard. When he pulled his mask off, the cheers rose to ear-splitting levels; Eminem greeted them with “I’m Back” and the audience chanted the chorus aloud and in unison. Slim’s partner-in-rhyme Proof shuffled across the stage with him, as the DJ dropped the beats from the house’s cracked-open rooftop.

Editor’s picks

Every awful thing trump has promised to do in a second term, the 250 greatest guitarists of all time, the 500 greatest albums of all time, 25 most influential creators of 2024.

As Em and Proof swaggered from east to west, Eminem pointed at the house and said, “This is the house I grew up in. I’m gonna invite some friends to come out and play.” On that note, his group D-12 stormed out the shack’s front door to perform the moronically infectious “Under the Influence” and their belligerent new single, “I’ll Shit on You.” Spraying unlimited vulgarities and ranting with a synergetic aura, D-12 did the impossible: They showed that Eminem is not alone in his dangerously off-the-tracks train of thought. They even did a quick a cappella spoof of ‘N Sync’s “Tearing Up My Heart” (“It’s tearing up my ass when I’m with you!”).

When D-12 took a break, Eminem invited English songstress Dido out on stage to duet on the heart-wrenching rap ballad “Stan.” But the tempo was a major deceleration from what D-12 ignited just moments before, and it took awhile to adjust to the change in pace. It didn’t go unnoticed that Eminem sang every verse in “Stan” except for the last one, wherein the sensitive-guy within him responds to the namesake’s letter. His mood tonight was more along the lines with the following song, “I Just Don’t Give a Fuck.”

Surprisingly, Eminem didn’t bring any Christina Aguilera or ICP blow-up dolls on stage, but he still had plenty to say about someone else. “How many faggots in here like Whitey Ford?” he asked the crowd. “If you like Whitey Ford, I want y’all to take the dicks out of your asses and wave them in the air! That mothafucka dissed me on an album, so I dissed him back.” The crowd’s faint cheer, however, sounded more like a mockery than applause. And although heads began bobbing in synch to the potent “Drug Ballad” and the groove-laden “Cum On Everybody,” there wasn’t much excitement when Eminem urged the crowd between beats to chant “Take them drugs!” Credit the crowd this much: By the time his two-hour set was over, most everyone seemed to have a grasp on the difference between ill and sick.

Republicans Plot Lawsuits to Overturn a Trump Loss. Harris Plans to Fight Back

Matthew perry, ketamine, and me, the biggest band in america in 2024 is ... creedence clearwater revival, trump praises authoritarian viktor orbán and even republicans are concerned.

But there was still one more drill. The appetite for some Chocolate Starfish and Hot Dog Flavored Water was evident, and Limp Bizkit seemed to be the ones cheesy enough to deliver it. On the heels of a heavily anticipated album release and armed with a larger-than-life robot as a stage, Fred and company waltzed out before charging into a monstrous set, sounded off by his ode to Trent Reznor, “Hot Dog.” Aside from some new material, which included his hip-hop collaboration with Xzibit (“Getcha Groove On”), the new stage design and a group of dancing Bizkettes surrounding him during a couple of numbers, Durst led the audience through the same old flashy routine. Although he took no stabs at Creed frontman Scott Stapp this time, Durst too spit venom. “Christina Aguilera is a fucking bitch!” he exclaimed, dedicating one of his hate songs to her. “I did her a fucking favor and she turned around and started talkin’ shit,” he continued before referring to her as a “fuckin’ whore.”

Eminem and LL Cool J Team Up for First Collab Ever, 'Murdergram Deux'

Taylor swift dominates 2024 mtv video music award nominations, eminem dethrones taylor swift to claim the number one album in the country.

The crowd couldn’t help but guffaw. And perhaps the lesson learned from this case of anger management is that laughter is the best medicine.

Limp Bizkit Cancel Remaining Summer Tour Dates, Deny COVID-19 Rumors

Limp Bizkit fans will have to wait a little longer to break stuff alongside the band. The rap-metal veterans have canceled their remaining summer tour dates with Spiritbox , citing safety concerns.

“Out of an abundance of caution and concern for the safety of the band, crew and most of all the fans, the Limp Bizkit show this Monday and the remaining August tour is being cancelled,” the band said in a statement. “Refunds are available at their points of purchase. All tickets purchased online will be automatically refunded.”

Limp Bizkit were scheduled to play at the Stone Pony Summer Stage in Asbury Park, N.J., on Saturday night (Aug. 7), but they canceled the performance one hour before the show was set to begin. “Please look for information regarding a new date to be announced shortly at www.stoneponyonline.com and an email from Ticketmaster will be sent to all purchasers who purchased online,” the venue posted on social media. “We are sorry for your inconvenience.”

Following the tour cancelation, people speculated that a member of Limp Bizkit had gotten sick with COVID-19 . One fan who spoke to Fred Durst outside the Stone Pony said guitarist Wes Borland felt “really sick” following the group’s soundcheck, Blabbermouth reports. The band, however, vehemently denied this on social media.

“Let us be clear. 1. Wes Borland does not have COVID,” Limp Bizkit wrote in an Instagram story, riffing on the lyrics to their 2000 song “Rollin’ (Air Raid Vehicle).” “2. The system is seriously flawed. 3. We don’t care much about the BS.

The band did give crestfallen fans something to look forward to, however. “Times 2. We care a lot about you. To the six. ‘They’ can kiss it. Dad vibes coming soon,” they continued.

Limp Bizkit debuted their new song, “ Dad Vibes ,” at Lollapalooza last weekend, playing it over the PA system at the end of their set. It was one of several noteworthy moments from the band’s performance, which also saw Durst donning a new look consisting of shaggy gray hair, a handlebar mustache and red aviator shades.

Limp Bizkit trended on Twitter following their Lollapalooza performance, with users cracking jokes about Durst’s appearance and praising the band’s set. Their  song sales have doubled over the past week, while their streams have leapt 27 percent.

Rap metal at its finest, its absolute finest. Limp Bizkit was formed in 1994 and have been recently active again since the year 2009 after they had previously stopped in 2006.

The current lineup of Limp Bizkit as of 2014 consists of: Fred Durst - Vocals, Wes Borland - backing vocals and guitar, Sam Rivers - backing vocals and bass guitar and John Otto on the drums. The band are currently signed to Cash Money Records, Flip and Interscope.

The band was formed whilst Fred Durst was in a string of unsuccessful bands. As young lad Fred Durst was a fan of breakdancing, hip hop and punk rock; an unusual combination some would say, but it was the basis upon which Limp Bizkit thrives upon. Fred got Sam Rivers to join by persuading him to leave the band he was in at the time they then also recruited John Otto who is the cousin of Sam Rivers. The band would later be joined by Wes Borland in 2004.

Limp Bizkit to date have released 6 studio albums and plan on releasing a 7th album in 2015 titled "Stampede of the Disco Elephants". Their first album "Three Dollar Bill Yall" was not very successful but this was turned around by their second album "significant Other" the album climbed to the number 1 position after it managed to sell 643,874 copies within its first week of going on sale.

Limp Bizkit won the Maximum Vision Award for their song "Nookie" They have also been nominated for 3 Grammy awards, 3 American Music Awards and successfully won Favorite Alternative Artist in 2002.

Live reviews

The undisputed kings of nu-metal around the turn of the century, Florida’s Limp Bizkit spent the rest of the noughties in a downward spiral of near-abusive ridicule from music fans and critics, increasingly questionable material (especially their 'Unquestionable Truth (Part 1)' record), and departing members, until they went on hiatus in 2005. Then an odd thing happened: the band reunited in 2009 to find that their brand of rap metal had gone full circle – it was suddenly cool to like Limp Bizkit again. Their hit-laden live sets were greeted with five star reviews and, especially at festivals, rock fans were whipped up into a frenzy. The difference now was that everyone had their tongue firmly in their cheek. I never got to see Fred Durst and The ‘Bizkit in their 1999-2001 heyday, only first encountering them at Reading Festival 2010, a year after they reunited and a year before they released their warmly received comeback album, Gold Cobra. Their set was the highlight of the festival. From opener "Hot Dog" to the closing cover of George Michael’s "Faith," the Reading Festival audience was unified in a nostalgic, sing-a-long mosh pit, with no-one singing or moshing with more glee than yours truly. "Break Stuff" and "Take A Look Around" were formative during my younger years in shaping my explorations into heavy metal; to see them live, finally, was much more special than I could ever have anticipated.

While Durst came across as an egomaniacal buffoon 10 years prior, these days he comes across as a loveable fool – a playful clown with a newfound humility – and Wes Borland was always one of the most underrated rock guitarists of the new millennium. Here’s hoping both band and fans keep the faith this time around!

Even though many say the Rap/Rock era of the mid to late 90’s was music of the muscle-head uncultured swine leading to believe it’s pseudo empowering awareness of a cross genre sound to really be superficial & misogynistic in it’s execution. I disagree & that is all depending on the individual. I also believe there are many musicians in that genre that haven’t gotten full credit for their musical talent.

One such band is Limp Bizkit. I had the pleasure to see them again in Saarbrücken on 13th of July. I saw them before in Frankfurt a few months ago & had such a great time that I couldn’t resist to see them again in an open air venue.

The weather brought an extra bonus to what was already to a fun & exciting event. They played the notable favorite songs in their catalog & as well as a brand new song from the upcoming album.

Their fan/audience interaction is nothing short but icing on the cake. Bringing on stage a young fan to experience a once in a life time up close & personal moment & to have another fan take the mic & letting him sing lead vocals on a song.

All this including a stellar performance. If you had to force me at gun point to try to find a flaw in the show. I would have to say I wish they would play some songs from their over looked album ‘The Unquestionable Truth’ I would of die if they played the song ‘The Story’ (in my opinion their best album. I recommend to give it a listen to if your a fan of Nu-Metal).

So even if your a So-So fan of Limp Bizkit check them out live you’ll enjoy it & if you are a fan & haven’t seen them at all I say “What the F**k is wrong with you, they kick ass live”. Nuff said m

You have to imagine that there’s nobody of a certain age who wouldn’t consider - privately or otherwise - the prospect of a Limp Bizkit live show to be anything other than riotously good fun. There’s few rock crowds in the world that wouldn’t go wild for Chocolate Starfish’s holy trinity - ‘Rollin’, ‘My Way’ and ‘Take a Look Around’ - but scratch the surface, and you come to realise that their canon is much stronger than you might remember; ‘My Generation’, ‘Nookie’ and anarchist anthem ‘Break Stuff’ are all setlist staples, too. Fred Durst, of course, remains one of the world’s most ridiculous men, but look at Bizkit’s festival form these past few years, and there’s no question he’s capable of holding even the hugest of crowds in the palm of his hand. Wes Borland’s appetite for frankly terrifying stage get-ups hasn’t faded, either, and there’s just the right amount of out-and-out silliness in the set - take that cover of George Michael’s ‘Faith’, for instance - to confirm that nobody in the band is taking themselves too seriously. Current indications are that material from newest record Gold Cobra is beginning to nudge its way into the fans’ affections; even if it had failed in that regard, though, the Jacksonville outfit would surely be happy with the sheer bedlam that their biggest hitters incite night after night.

Apart from a mid-hiatus in the mid 00's, Limp Bizkit have been a staple appearance on the live circuit and festival scene for the past twenty years. Despite receiving large amounts of criticism before their time away for awful live performances and weak material, the band returned in 2009 invigorated and stronger than ever.

Returning to their loyal fan base, the legends of

nu-metal pack out Birmingham's O2 Academy with the promise of a 'best of' show of sorts. From the piercing riffs of '9 Teen 90 Nine' the audience explode in a mass of moshing and fist pumping as the band begins an anticipated gig. Fred Durst isn't the most charismatic of frontmen but the audience do not need hyping further when the opening bars of 'Rollin'' begin.

Durst simply guides them through a set of cult hits and covers including 'Welcome To The Jungle' by Guns 'N Roses and a metal reworking of 'Faith' by George Michael. Early singles 'Nookie' and 'Break Stuff' wrap up a brief show but from the reaction of the fans they got everything they were hoping for.

"If you didn’t want to be in the beef, you shouldn’t have opened your mouth": Eminem on writing a diss track about Limp Bizkit

The former friends fell out over the rapper's argument with Everlast

Eminem and Limp Bizkit

Not to boil down the career of one of the greatest hip-hop artists of all time into a series of entertainingly and petty arguments, but if Eminem wasn’t such a distinguished rapper, maybe he could’ve found a way to carve a career out of starting rows with people. He’s brilliant at it. Even when his musical output has taken a dip, the Detroit rapper still finds a way to have some small print beef on the go with someone. He’s not above switching from genre to genre, either, his squabbles over the years ranging from Mariah Carey to Joe Budden, Christina Aguilera to Machine Gun Kelly , Ja Rule to Daniel O’Donnell, Insane Clown Posse to Will Smith, with only one of those quarrels made up.

One of the best, though, was a three-way barney between him, Limp Bizkit and rapper Everlast, with Eminem releasing a diss track titled Girls on the 2001 debut record by his spin-off group D12. In an interview at the time, Eminem explained why he felt compelled to dig out Fred Durst’s nu-metal titans, with whom he'd previously been friends. “The reason I dissed Limp Bizkit is because they’re little fucking girls,” Eminem began. “The reason I dissed them is because when all the beef with Everlast was going on, right, they wanted to jump in the middle of it, they wanted to jump in it with me and take my side and they wanted to do a song with me… Everlast did a song dissing me, then I dissed him back, then he dissed me back again, so I was going to diss him back again one final time so I was telling them about it and they wanted to get on the song.”

Eminem recounted Durst telling him to write some verses for him to sing and said Limp Bizkit turntablist shared his own thoughts on Everlast. “DJ Lethal is like, ‘Man, I hate Everlast, he comes over, he steals my weed,’ all this shit, so I’m like ‘OK, if you guys really want to get on a song, I’ll set up the studio time in LA, let’s do it’.”

This is the part, though, where their friendship hit the skids, the Limp lads obviously unaware of Eminem’s total dedication to seeing a diss track through. “So we set up the studio time, the day I get to the studio, that day, Fred pages us, ‘Yo, I’ve got a toothache, I don’t think I’ll be able to make it today and DJ Lethal says he doesn’t know how he feels about doing the song cos he’s still cool with Everlast’,” he explained. “So I’m thinking, ‘Alright, if he’s so cool with Everlast, why was he telling me he hates him?’. You don’t say that to somebody you barely know, I barely know those guys. That’s a little girl scout right there.”

Even then, though, Eminem said he didn’t have reason enough to fall out with Limp Bizket, even though we suspect that’s a lie. No, what Eminem identified as pushing him over the line was an interview that Lethal gave to MTV. “My opinion of them lowered but I thought, ‘I’ll do the song anyways’,” he said. “I still put their names in my raps and used them against Everlast and then, not even two weeks later, these motherfuckers are on MTV and they ask Lethal about the Everlast thing and Lethal says, ‘I think personally Eminem is a good rapper, he’s a better MC but I think in a fight, Everlast would whip his ass’. Now come on dawg! I’m sitting at home watching the TV and I’m like, ‘What?! What the fuck?! You were supposed to be on the song with me!’. What kind of shit is that? I would not have made a move if it wasn’t for that, if ten or twenty million people did not see him say that Everlast would whip my ass. There was no fucking call for it dawg, if you didn’t want to be in the beef, you shouldn’t have opened your mouth and had an opinion. So that’s why I dissed them.”

Watch the full interview below:

In an AMA session on Reddit a few years ago, Durst was asked about the fallout and offered up a diplomatic answer on the whole debacle. "I understand why he was upset, mainly with Lethal, but over time I've learned there are better ways to deal with things that upset us,” he said. “I have remained a loyal fan of his and choose to remember the good times we shared. He is definitely one of the very few best rappers of all time."
