Bennett’s Orchard is a family tradition that’s been around for over 50 years growing quality fruits and vegetables. 4. Blake’s Orchard & Cider Mill (F, A)

This is your one-stop shop where there are fun activities for the kids such as a 3D maze and zombie paintball with hard cider for the adults to enjoy. Blake’s Orchard & Cider Mill sits on 500 acres with three independent facilities. 5. Brookwood Fruit Farm (F)

This is a fifth generation family fruit farm that grows many different varieties of fruits including raspberries, apples, tart cherries, and peaches. 7. Dexter Cider Mill (F, A)

The Dexter Cider Mill is one of the oldest operating cider mills in the state of Michigan using an oak rack press to make their fresh apple cider. Recently, they expanded to producing hard cider for those over the age of 21. Along with the cider, they offer apples, vegetables, and many decadent treats from their very own bakery.

8. Diehl’s Orchard & Cider Mill (F)

1479 Ranch Road, Holly, MI

This farm sits on 100 acres in Holly, Michigan offering a wide variety of apples including Honeycrisp, McIntosh, Gala, and Jonathan. A few fall favorites include their cider, apple butter, and Michigan grown popcorn. There is a tricky but fun corn maze for both kids and adults along the orchard. 9. Erie Orchards & Cider Mill (F)

This family-owned farm grows blueberries, peaches, apples, and pumpkins every single year. Visitors can shop at the country store, pick their own fruit, adventure through the corn maze, or even stop by the animal center for a petting zoo. 10. Erwin Orchards (F)

This three generation family orchard is located just outside of Detroit in South Lyon, Michigan. The farm has a wide variety of some of the best apples, raspberries, cherries, and pumpkins to choose from. There are many different things to indulge in here including specialty raspberry cider or apple cider slush. 11. Fieldstone Winery & Hard Cider (A)

12. Goodison Cider Mill (F)

Located on the northern outskirts of metro Detroit you can find Goodison Cider Mill in Rochester, Michigan. Here they use a century-old press to produce and fill hundreds of jugs full of fresh apple cider for visitors to take home. Visit the restaurant to find a variety of baked goods including their world famous pistachio nut bread. 13. Hy’s Cider Mill (F)

This small farmer’s market offers u-pick apples with a wagon ride that brings you there, pumpkins, and a variety of baked goods. It is located in the Detroit metropolitan area just an hour north of the city. There are many picnic tables scattered across the property that make it the perfect place for families to visit and enjoy the view of apple cider being made.

14. Kapnick Orchards (F)

Kapnick Orchards is located in southeastern Michigan in the city of Britton. They make cider in two different ways – the old fashioned way and the newer method using a UV light machine. 15. Long Family Orchard, Farm & Cider Mill (F)

This orchard, farm, and cider mill is located in Commerce Township just outside of Pontiac. Not only are you able to enjoy picking your own assortment of apples, but there is also a wide variety of garden vegetables that are grown here also. 16. Markillie Orchard (F)

Markillie Orchard is located in Howell, Michigan that specializes in apples and donuts. There is an abundance of space for visitors to enjoy many of the treats they offer including cider slushes, soft serve ice cream, jams, and more. There is also an outdoor play area for kids to enjoy while visiting the orchard.

17. Meckley’s Flavor Fruit Farm (F, A)

Keeping family tradition as the main focus, Meckley’s Flavor Fruit Farm uses a “rack and cloth” style press to create small batches which has been around for over 100 years. Every day, fresh bread, pies, and donuts are made with local ingredients. There is an ice cream parlor on site with sixteen hand-dipped flavors to choose. This is a family-owned orchard located in southeastern Michigan producing a wide variety of different fruits and vegetables and of course, apples. In the Great Lakes State, visiting one of the dozens of Michigan cider mills is as quintessential to fall as tailgating before an American football game, raking leaves into a huge pile, or eating pumpkin pie.

It’s no surprise considering Michigan is the third-largest apple producer in the United States. In fact, we have 11.3 million apple trees growing at our 825 family-run farms across the state!

Whether Michigan is your home or you are visiting for a scenic fall foliage tour, sipping a cup of refreshing apple cider paired with a delicious doughnut at a cider mill is a rite of passage during a Michigan fall.

In this post, I name 27 of the best cider mills in Michigan. Also, I share what to expect at four of my favorite Michigan cider mills, and I’ve provided an interactive map of Michigan’s cider mills for you to map out your driving route.

What is apple cider?

Apple cider is a seasonal, non-alcoholic beverage, typically available from late summer through early winter, made purely from fresh apples. It is often made at cider mills, where visitors can watch apples being pressed for their juice and sip a cup of fresh apple cider.

To make apple cider, apples are pressed to extract their natural juice. Unlike apple juice, apple cider doesn’t undergo a filtration process to remove pulp and sediment, and neither preservatives nor sweeteners are added. Therefore, apple cider has a cloudy appearance and a delightfully sweet and pure apple flavor.

Because apple cider is not pasteurized, it must be kept refrigerated. However, you can freeze apple cider to consume at a later date.

Apple cider can be served hot or cold, and it’s also delicious in fall cocktails . At Michigan’s cider mills, visitors often pair their cup of apple cider with a doughnut.

Visiting a cider mill is also a popular fall activity in Vermont , New York, Washington, and other apple-growing regions of the United States .

What is the difference between apple cider and hard cider?

Though apple cider and hard cider (sometimes simply called “cider”) share a name, there are differences between these beverages.

The first difference is hard cider is an alcoholic drink. Secondly, it is made by fermenting the juice from fresh fruit. Hard cider made from the juice of apples is the most common, but you’ll also find hard ciders made from the juices of pears, tart cherries, and other fruits. Third, hard cider can be fizzy, similar to beer or sparkling wine.

Luckily, if you are hoping to taste hard cider, you can at some of Michigan’s cider mills!

Where can you find fresh apple cider in Michigan this fall?

If you type “cider mill near me” or “cider mills near me” into a Google search, you will likely find at least one nearby cider mill in Michigan. That is especially true in the southern and central portions of the Lower Peninsula, where Michigan’s best cider mills are mostly concentrated from the Ann Arbor area north through Mid Michigan.

Therefore, you could visit multiple Michigan cider mills in a day! Below I’ve compiled a list of the best cider mills in Michigan based on online reviews and my own experiences. I also included an interactive Google map pinpointing the top-rated cider mills in Michigan.

Situated on a 120-acre, family-owned farm about an hour drive north from Detroit, Blake’s Orchard & Cider Mill offers sweet apple cider, freshly baked doughnuts, a variety of family-friendly fall activities, and even more food and craft beverages.

Franklin Cider Mill

Franklin Cider Mill is as old as Michigan’s statehood and was originally opened in 1837 as a gristmill. Today, this Bloomfield Hills cider mill is a popular fall destination for Metro Detroiters.

When you go, try the fresh cider, made purely from Michigan apples.

I also recommend you pair your cider with one of the doughnuts made fresh each day from an old German spice recipe. Franklin Cider Mill has used that same doughnut recipe for over 80 years!

However, if you’d like to try something a little different, you could opt for a Cider Dog, a hot dog marinated in apple cider.

In addition to drinking the cider, you may also watch the apple-cider-making process! Inside the cider mill’s main visiting area, you can see chopped apples drop onto a pressing cloth and be pressed into apple cider during the daily presses.

Each side of Franklin Cider Mill’s double press holds up to 60 bushels or 2,400 lbs of apples, and one press yields approximately 3 gallons of cider per bushel (40 lbs). That means the press can yield an average of 360 gallons of cider per press!

Of course, a trip to a Michigan cider mill isn’t complete if you walk out empty-handed.

In the Apple Shack, there are a variety of Michigan-grown apples for sale. Franklin Cider Mill sells 25 varieties, though not all are always available, by the half peck (6 lbs) or bushel.

Over in the Franklin Tent, you can purchase items made in Michigan. Some of these goodies include homemade jams, honey, maple syrup, salsas, meats, cheeses, and charcuterie board items.

You’ll also find breads and pies in the main sales area with the cider and doughnuts. I recommend the caramel apples!

Lastly, along the Franklin River behind the cider mill is the Franklin Cider Mill Community Spot where live jazz music and magic acts are performed on Saturdays and Sundays.

Robinette’s Apple Haus & Winery

Robinette’s Apple Haus & Winery, which has been making apple cider since 1971, is the place to go for a cider mill visit in Grand Rapids. Though it is open year-round, Robinette’s is truly a fall destination for all ages.

Fall Activities at Robinette’s Apple Haus & Winery

There are family-friendly hayrides, a jumping pillow, a 6.5-acre corn maze, apple picking in the apple orchard, and wine and hard cider tastings.

Each year, the corn maze features a new design. In fall 2023, the “A-maze-ing Bees” corn maze is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday through Nov. 5. Corn maze tickets are $9 per person, but admission is free for children age 2 and younger.

Additionally, little ones can interact with mini horses, goats, lambs, and other farm animals at a free petting zoo from noon to 4 p.m. Sundays in September and October. Pony rides for $7/ride are also available at that time.

U-Pick Apples, Apple Cider, Donuts & More!

You can also pick apples in the U-pick apple orchards usually from the second weekend of September through October (or whenever all the apples have been picked). Robinette’s grows 35 varieties of apples!

For fall 2023, apple picking in the orchard will be offered only occasionally and exclusively on weekends.

In the Apple Haus, you can drink your cider hot or cold and pair it with a variety of doughnuts, pies, pastries, and breads. Sandwiches are also available for lunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.

One of the tastiest fall treats is the pumpkin spice doughnut available from Labor Day through Thanksgiving. My husband loved the apple turnover, and many visitors rave about the cheese bread and apple bread. You’ll also find fresh, seasonal fruits grown in the orchards, apple butter, and caramel candies to take home.

Uncle John’s Cider Mill

Uncle John’s Cider Mill is about a 30-minute drive north of Michigan’s capital. Therefore, this Mid Michigan cider mill is a fun and family-friendly destination from the Lansing area.

Back in the early 1970s, John and Carolyn Beck purchased John’s parents’ wholesale fruit farm. After struggling in a depressed wholesale market, they converted the old cattle barn into a cider mill serving apple cider and doughnuts.

Since then, Uncle John’s Cider Mill has become an agritainment destination now run by the couple’s son, Mike. In 2022, Uncle John’s Cider Mill celebrated its 50th anniversary.

Fall Activities at Uncle John’s Cider Mill

At the cider mill, you can watch the cider-making process, eat a doughnut or caramel apple, and warm up with a cup of spiced apple cider.

Then head over to the pie barn to purchase freshly baked pies and breads to bring home.

Adults ages 21+ can also sip a glass of wine or sample a flight of hard ciders at the taproom.

To round out all the fantastic fall fun are a pumpkin patch, a farm trail to walk, a corn maze, horse-drawn wagon rides, train rides, a jumping pillow, gemstone mining, live music, and more shopping in the gift shop.

Why is Visiting Cider Mills the Best Michigan Fall Activity?

Visiting a cider mill is a beloved tradition each fall in Michigan. The state is home to dozens of cider mills, which are often family-owned with operations handed down from one generation to the next. In fact, some of Michigan’s cider mills even date back to the nineteenth century.

In this post, I shared Michigan’s 27 best cider mills, which are located in the southern and central regions of the Lower Peninsula. Of those 27 highly rated cider mills, I shared four of my personal favorites — Franklin Cider Mill and Blake’s Orchard & Cider Mill in Metro Detroit, Robinette’s Apple Haus & Winery in Grand Rapids, and Uncle John’s Cider Mill in Mid Michigan.

During a visit to a Michigan cider mill, you may get to pick apples in a Michigan apple orchard, eat a caramel apple, take a hayride or wagon ride, wind your way through a corn maze, or shop for pumpkins, fresh apples, and baked goods. Of course, drinking apple cider and pairing it with a doughnut is a must!

The biggest thing I miss about MI is the cider mills so ?I loved this post. My Louisiana born husband thought it was much ado about nothing, a trip to MI, Yates Cider Mill and Franklin changed his mind.

I know exactly how you feel! When I lived out of state, I missed cider mill visits each fall. I tried to explain it to my friends and co-workers in the DC area, but I don’t think they fully understood either. I’m glad your husband came around after a proper Michigan cider mill visit though!

Very informative post highlighting our fall season in the Mitten. I now have a craving for a cider mill visit. I think I will try the Plymouth Cider Mill this year in the next two weeks since I went to Franklin last year. So many mills to choose from in just the lower peninsula, I like to try a different one each time. Also love all the helpful links…have got to try the apple pecan salad, apple cinnamon pancakes and the apple caramel dip recipes for sure. The color tours link is also a wonderful resource.

History of Michigan Apples

This history of Michigan Apples  states that John Chapman, (a.k.a. Johnny Appleseed) is one of the reasons why we have such an abundance of apples. Chapman owned many apple tree nurseries in the Midwest and sold and traded apple trees.

Did you know that archaeologists have found evidence that people have been eating apples since at least 6500 B.C.?  Cool, huh!

Gull Meadow Farms | Richland, Near Kalamazoo | Southwest Michigan

Gull Meadow Farms i s a great spot to pick your fall p umpkins, enjoy fresh delicious donuts and grab some fresh apple cider by the glass, half gallon or whole gallon.  There's a very cute shop with items to decorate your home. 

We used to live about 5 miles from this farm so we would visit several times throughout the fall season to buy mums and explore the corn maze.  There is a train for kids and a tractor drawn hay wagon for the whole family.  Great place!! It's a very fun September and October Michigan event ! We love it!

• Be sure to stop into Gull Meadow Farms in  August for thei r Sunflower Festival!!!   

Their multi-colored sunflowers are planted in mid-May and bloom for about two full weeks in August. 

Tickets are around $13 per person, though children under 36 inches tall are admitted free. Each ticket gets visitors a wagon ride out to the sunflower field and one sunflower to take home.

Uncle Johns Cider Mill | St Johns | Central Michigan

Check out Uncle Johns Cider Mill  for gifts, food items, snacks, wine and Michigan hard cider. It's one of my favorite Michigan Cider Mills! They make super yummy fresh donuts and fresh award-winning apple cider, so don't miss out!  Plus, the barn is gorgeous!

You can also find maple syrup, homemade jams, salsas, jellies and lots of yummy treats in their store. 

Michigan hard cider makes a fantastic Christmas gift...just sayin'.

Uncle John's is a Family-Owned Business!

The founders, John and Carolyn Beck, purchased the family farm from John’s parents in the 1970′s. It began as a wholesale fruit and vegetable farm and then morphed into a cider mill that produced delicious apple cider and donuts. Tons of family came to help and the name, "Uncle John's" is fitting as nieces and nephews kept asking, “Uncle John, what do you want me to do?” 

As time passed, pies, breads, preserves, honeys and maple syrups joined the delicious cider and donuts. So many treats can be made from their wide varieties of apples. Then festivals and weekend entertainment began in the late 1970′s. Several barns turned into a cider mill, bakery, gift shop and taproom.  Uncle John is still seen on the farm as he loves being involved in the day to day operations and visiting with customers.

It's pretty cool that  Bayne's Apple Valley has been awarded  Mid-Michigan's Best Orchard 3 years in a row!

Bayne's Apple Valley has great homemade baked goods and my Dad, especially, can't resist picking up freshly made donuts and fresh pressed pure apple cider.

Pop into their cute shop and grab some fresh cider on the way out! Great place to meet friends during fall Michigan afternoons!

Plan to spend at least an hour at Bayne's as one of our favorite things to do is to grab a sandwich in their cute cafe and then lounge outside to enjoy the view of the woods.  It makes for a very relaxing afternoon.

At this Michigan Cidery, all of their cider is made with the freshest hand picked apples that are in season. No drops are used. They do not pasteurize nor add preservatives to their cider so all the apples are graded and washed with chlorinated water to assure a clean pure cider.

Chris and I enjoy visiting Leaman's as it's an event!  You can search for cute items for your home in their shop, pick out a fantastic pumpkin, enjoy some donuts and sip some cool cider.  Plus, adorable goats are grazing near the parking area! Seriously!  

Isn't there something just amazing about beautiful red apples on a tree?  Almost swoon-worthy!!  I love watching the green apples being dipped in gooey caramel.  So yummy!

Knaebe's Apple Farm and Cider Works | Northern Michigan 

Knaebe's Apple Farm and Cider Works is located at 2621 S Karsten Rd, Rogers City, MI 49779 .

Enjoy a delicious wood fired pizza and hard cider  in the barn!  Oh and you will love their goats and other cute farm animals.  Check out the playground, barrel train ride for kids, wagon ride pulled by a classic 1947 Farmall H Tractor on the weekends, horseshoes and cornhole. U-pick Pumpkin Patch too!

Franklin Cider Mill | Bloomfield Hills | Metro Detroit | Southeast Michigan

If the sound of caramel dipped apples rolled in tiny bits of crunchy nuts makes you salivate (you are normal, by the way!), pack up the car and head to Franklin Cider Mill in Bloomfield Hills where you can pick out fresh warm donuts, crunchy apples and a gallon of sweet fresh pressed cider.

First off, the beauty of Yates' red barn is just breathtaking!!  We love that you can purchase your yummy baked goods and award-winning apple cider in the store and then mosey outside to enjoy your treats on a nearby picnic table.  

To the right of the cider barn is a FANTASTIC walking path and trail along the river that continues well beyond where we walked-I'm assuming it continues for a couple miles.  The path has several areas where you can walk down to the river, so be sure to take time to explore the area!

Oh, and yes, there are cute goats like this adorable guy!! I couldn't help but talk to him and I'm pretty sure he understood me!! Or, possibly, he wanted my apple turnover. One can't be sure...(but I'm going with the idea that we were kindred spirits!)

Debucks Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch | Belleville | Southeast Michigan

In addition to 15 acres of sunflowers, Debucks has over 19 farm attractions, wagon rides, tractor pulled barrel ride, Linda’s Kitchen, Donut Bakery and lots more to see and do! Check out their 13 acre corn maze and 20 acre U-pick pumpkin patch!

Pick your own pumpkin from their large pumpkin patch and see their cider mill (if you are lucky, they may be pressing cider when you visit!) Shop their store and bakery for delicious treats.  Come out for tours and farm dinners (previously arranged).

There is never a fee to enter or park. Stop by!

We have over 16 varieties of apples. The varieties available depend on the time of the season. you can find out about the current selection by visiting our stores or giving us a call.

We do not offer U-Pick at this time.

We have a wide variety of things to do including scenic wagon rides through the orchard, pumpkin picking in season, friendly farm animals and a hay bale climb for the younger kids. We have a retail store with fresh cider, donuts made daily, apples and jams, jellies, and preserves. We also offer music most weekends.

Plymouth Orchards and Cider Mill is open daily 9:00a.m. to 7:00p.m., from Labor Day weekend through the first weekend of November. The Red Shed Market is open daily 10:00a.m. to 6:00p.m. from September 4th through November 24th.

We have two locations. Our main store is located at 10685 Warren Rd. in Plymouth. You can reach Plymouth Orchards and Cider Mill at 734-455-2290. Our satellite store, The Red Shed Market is located at 10260 Ann Arbor Rd. The phone number there is 734-414-0366.

Both Plymouth Orchards and Cider Mill and the Red Shed Market offer cider, donuts, apples , pies and more!

We do do offer tours for school groups, seniors, girl scout/boy scout troops and business outings weekdays between 9:00a.m. and 3:00p.m. Reserve a spot by calling 734-455-2290.

Things to do at Plymouth Orchards!

Wagon Rides

There is perhaps no better way to experience the organic working farm and orchards of Plymouth Orchards and Cider Mill than by hopping on a wagon ride and viewing the acres of land and apple trees that have attracted visitors of all ages for decades.

Wagon rides run daily from 10:00a.m.-6:00p.m., weather permitting. The cost is $3.00 per person Monday-Friday. On the weekend, the cost is $4.00 per person but is a longer ride. Kids 3 years and younger are always free!

Farm Animals

You’re sure to make a new friend when you visit our farm animals at Plymouth Orchards and Cider Mill. Some live here year-round, while others are just visiting. you may spot a horse or two or see the chickens we raise here. Keep an eye out for Carlisle the farm cat. Don’t forget to visit the goats, sheep, turkeys, and cow. It’s simply another reason to experience our farm in the fall and enjoy a fun day with the family. We are just a short drive from anywhere in the Detroit and Ann Arbor area. you’ll feel like you’ve found a wonderful escape in the country!

Pumpkin Patch

Nothing feels more like fall than a walk through the crisp air, a stop in our cider mill for a hot drink and a donut or a visit to our scenic U-Pick Pumpkin Patch. Whether you are on the hunt for that perfect pumpkin to carve or seeking a small pie pumpkin for a favorite fall recipe, Plymouth Orchards and Cider Mill has a large selection for every need. Complete your fall display with corn stalks, hay bales, and gourds. It is a family tradition that you will want to repeat every year!

Pumpkins are available beginning October 1st. Large pumpkins are 40 cents a pound and pie pumpkins are $3.50 each.

Part of the family-friendly fall experience of visiting Plymouth Orchards and Cider Mill is the live music performances we host on weekends. From late September through October, we welcome various artists to entertain our visitors. Music offerings include solo artists, trips, country and pop.

Organic Produce

Plymouth Orchards and Cider Mill has been a family destination for generations – and now it is a working organic farm! We have worked hard to transition the farm to a regenerative agriculture production system. This approach to farming rejects pesticides, artificial fertilizers, and aims to regenerate topsoil, increase biodiversity, improve water cycles, enhance ecosystems, increase resistance to climate fluctuations and strengthen the health and viability of farming. Plymouth Orchards currently grows certified organic apples, raspberries, asparagus, blackberries, small grains and hay.

Our products are sold here and at local markets: Argus Farm Stop, Peoples Food Co-op in Ann Arbor, Pure Pastures, Westborn Market in Plymouth and the Ypsilanti Food Co-op. We also supply organic grains to local processors for cereal and bread. Our sister farm, Gateway Farms, is located just across the road and focuses on growing organic vegetables and flowers. Feel free to ask us about our organic crops and plans for the future.

Fresh Baked Pies

Baking fresh pies is just as much a part of our heritage at Plymouth Orchards and Cider Mill as the orchard itself.  We offer six varieties of pies: apple, cherry, pumpkin, pecan, or no-sugar apple. Pricing is listed on our Products Page . Stop in to pick up a pie for dinner or pre-order your favorite pies for Thanksgiving!

Donuts and Cider

Plymouth Orchards and Cider Mill makes fresh donuts daily. We offer three varieties: Cinnamon Sugar, Plain and White Powder. Pricing for donuts is listed on our Product Page . Mix and match the varieties any way you like!

Our award winning cider is pressed on site to enjoy during your visit or to take home. Cider is made with a blend of at least three different varieties of Michigan apples. The blend changes with the season and with the types of apples that are available. Cold cider can be purchased by the glass, pint, half-gallon or gallon. Don’t forget to try a icy cider slushy, or warm up with a cup of hot cider. Pricing for cider products is listed on our Products Page .

Host an Event

Plymouth Orchards and Cider Mill is an ideal place to host a fun and memorable fall event! Book the enclosed pavilion or the Red Apple Barn (Schoolhouse) for a birthday party, baby shower, or a client event. Include cider, donuts and a wagon ride as part of the fun. Decorating a pie pumpkin is a great activity for the kids. Make sure to go see the farm animals! Pre-prepared food or catered items can be brought in during the rental but there is no cooking, grilling or alcohol allowed.

We rent the two buildings in three hour time blocks; 9-12, 12:30-3:30, and 4-7. The enclosed pavilion rents for $125 for a three hour block of time. it has 10 picnic tables and can hold up to 80 people. The Red Apple Barn rents for $200 for a three hour block. There are 7 eight foot tables, 32 folding chairs and 21 short benches that are available for use free of charge. The capacity varies by what seating arrangement is chosen or if it is an open house type of party. Call 734-455-2290 to book a rental and inquire about other add on options for your party.

School Tours/Group Tours

Tours are available Monday through Friday from 9a.m.-3p.m. Later times are available upon request. The cost of the tour is $6 per person (there is one teacher free per class) The tour includes a fun fact talk about the apples, the bees, the trees, and about our organic farm geared toward the ages in the group. You will also enjoy a scenic wagon ride through the orchard, an apple, a donut and a small cider. A stop in the pumpkin patch to pick a small pie pumpkin is available in October for an additional cost of $3.00 per person. The basic tour takes about one hour fifteen minutes. Allow about 1 1/2 hours for the tour with the stop in the pumpkin patch. if you have extra time after the tour, you are welcome to go visit the farm animals. There is no charge to see the animals! You are also welcome to bring a bagged lunch. Just let us know at the time  you book your tour. Call 734-455-2290 to make your reservation.

Milling around is part of the fun at the Fly Creek Cider Mill and there is no better place to start than by the Millpond. Located just behind the Mill, the pond is where water energy that drives the cider making machinery is held before releasing it through the turbine. It is also home to the Mill's friendly ducks and geese whose antics are entertaining to watch.  The new "Quack & Honk" Gemstone Mining Sluice is ready and waiting for you to find your hidden Gems!  The wheelchair-accessible boardwalk provides a wonderful place to sit, relax and enjoy a refreshing treat from the restaurant and bakery — all the while taking in the beautiful view.

Children will not want to leave without exploring Tractorland next to the Restaurant & Bakery: a kiddie play area for ages 2 - 6 with a paved little-trike track and a wooden climb-on tractor. Plenty of covered picnic tables are provided for mom and dad to enjoy a food and beverage treat while the young folks work off their energy.

Hy’s Cider Mill [1] is a small farm market offering u-pick apples, pumpkins, and baked goods. Some say that Hy’s has the best cider in the Detroit metropolitan area. The mill is located about an hour north of Detroit in Romeo, Michigan. Picnic tables are scattered along the property to give families plenty of space to relax and enjoy the view. When in season, visitors can pick from over ten different apples including, Cortland, Gala, and Golden Delicious. Also, families can view apple cider being made and play on bales of hay

Long Family Orchard, Farm & Cider Mill

The Long Family Orchard, Farm & Cider Mill [2] is located in Commerce Township. There is a small corn maze and petting zoo for children which is open seasonally. Also, the property features a large picnic area, a giant jumping pillow, pedal karts, hayrides, and a giant slide. In addition to offering donuts and cider, the orchard also sells apple butter, preserves, honey and breads. Visitors can to pick their fruit or purchase fruit that has been picked by the Long Family Orchard staff. 

Blake's Orchard & Cider Mill

17985 Armada Center Rd. Armada, MI

A one-stop shop, Blake’s Orchard & Cider Mill [3] sits on 500 acres at three independent facilities. As the first pick-your-own orchard in Michigan, the small farmhouse has evolved into a fun destination that has everything from pick-your-own orchards to Barnyard Funland, featuring a tricycle track and animals. The general store sells salsa, jams and a line of sweets. Also, there are climbing structures, a three-story haunted barn, a 3D maze, haunted hayride and zombie paintball for the kids. Other attractions include the Fall Harvest Tour and the Michigan Lavender Festival. 

Phillips Orchards

1995 E. County Line Rd. St. Johns, MI

Phillips Orchards [4] is a sixth generation family farm that supplies a variety of fruits and vegetables to the area. The apple orchard consists 34 varieties and visitors may also enjoy peaches, gourds, plums, pumpkins, and squash depending on the season. Also, Phillips serves fresh apple cider, and visitors can watch the cider-making process every weekend in the fall. The mill also sells caramel apples, donuts, pies, and breads. They also carry fresh produce and products from local farmers and vendors. 

Spicer Orchards

10411 Clyde Rd. Fenton, MI

Here visitors will find everything needed for a fun-filled day on a farm at Spicer Orchards [5] . This five generation farm features a cider mill and donut shop in addition to various fresh foods throughout the year. Little ones will enjoy the pony rides and a large playground area while adults will appreciate the winery tour, wine sampling, and lunch on a patio with a picturesque view of the orchard. The entire family can see how donuts are made, take a hay ride, or run through the corn maze. Spicer Orchards hosts a fall festival each weekend during the months of September and October. Make sure you also stop by Fenton Fire Hall [6] , only a few minutes to the north, for some delicious food and some great local history.

Franklin Cider Mill

7450 Franklin Rd. Bloomfield Hills, MI

Franklin Cider Mill [7] has been providing non-pasteurized fresh cider and hot donuts for almost two centuries. Expect to see long lines of locals and visitors waiting patiently along the tree-lined property to get a taste of cold cider slush and warm donuts. Visitors also enjoy delicious apples, baked goods, and jams. Additionally, Franklin Cider Mill sells smoked beef and a large variety of cheeses. On select weekends, the mill hosts car and bike shows. 

Erwin Orchards (Now Permanently Closed)

61475 Silver Lake Rd. South Lyon, MI

Located just outside Detroit in South Lyon, Michigan, Erwin Orchards has been passed down through three generations. For more than 95 years, the farm has produced some of the best apples, raspberries, and pumpkins in the state of Michigan. Erwin’s uses the latest technology to manage over 200 acres of farmland. In return, guests receive delicious cider, spiced donuts, and caramel apples. Seasonal activities include a petting zoo, wagon rides, paintball, a corn maze, and a carnival bounce. A live band entertains on some weekends. 

Parshallville Grist Mill

8507 Parshallville Rd. Fenton, MI

Parshallville Grist Mill [8] (also known as Tom Walker’s Grist Mill) is a historical landmark that rests on the banks of the North Ore Creek in Livingston County. The 136-year-old mill began as a flour mill and is one of the few water-powered mills remaining in Michigan. In addition to getting a taste of freshly pressed cider, people come from all over the state to get their lips on Parshallville’s homemade Dutch apple pies. Other treasured treats include heirloom apples, spiced donuts and caramel apples. Guided tours are conducted during the cider season. Also, Parshallville’s Gift Shoppe offers a variety of locally produced specialty items and gifts. 

Goodison Cider Mill

4295 Orion Rd. Rochester, MI

Best known for its pistachio nut bread, Goodison Cider Mill [9] uses a century-old press to produce apple cider. Hundreds of jugs are filled each day for visitors to carry home. The restaurant sells a variety of homemade goodies such as preserves, jellies, donuts and candy apples. On Sundays, the mill schedules a moonwalk, entertainment by a bluegrass band, and a balloon artist. Weekend fall activities include pony rides and a pumpkin patch. You can also check out Meadow Brook [10] , a National Historic Landmark, which is only a few minutes away and offers tours and plenty of history.

Alber Orchard and Cider Mill

13011 Bethel Church Rd. Manchester, MI

Alber Orchard and Cider Mill [11] is well worth the trip if only to get a taste of their mouthwatering caramel apples. Other delicious products include pretzels, cider, donuts, apple butter, and apple jam. Alber has over 50 kinds of apples, including heirloom varieties. The mill offers fresh cold cider and plenty of activities to enjoy. In the fall, visitors can take tractor-drawn hayrides, walk through a 7-acre corn maze, and collect pumpkins from the pumpkin patch. Also, Alber hosts several events during the fall months. 

Stony Creek Orchard & Cider Mill

2961 32 Mile Rd. Romeo, MI

Surrounded by 300-foot locus and pine trees, Stony Creek Orchard & Cider Mill [12] offers visitors a place to pick apples, pumpkins, and raspberries. The property has a Donut House, a salesroom filled with homemade pies, caramel apples, maple syrup, honey, and jams. In addition, antique farming equipment fills the land, making for a memorable photo op. Meckley's Flavor Fruit Farm

Meckley's Flavor Fruit Farm [13] is the ideal place for those who appreciate a bit of nostalgia. Meckley’s bakers rise in the wee hours of the morning to bake bread, pies and donuts with fresh ingredients from local vendors. Signature items include apple fritters and carmel apple pies. In addition to an ice cream parlor featuring sixteen hand dipped flavors, Meckley’s store is filled with unique items like vintage linens, repurposed items and candy reminiscent of earlier days. Mueller's Orchard

Mueller’s Orchard is a family-owned business located in Genesee County. Once a stop for stagecoaches, the orchard offers pressed cider, fresh fruit, and baked goods. Guests hop on wagons to explore the family farm. Children enjoy playing at the Free Farm Playground and feeding the animals at Owen’s Barnyard. Mueller’s Orchard is host to many yearly events including a vintage car showcase, an antique tractor show, and an animal rescue adoption event. 

Diehl's Orchard & Cider Mill

1479 Ranch Rd. Holly, MI

Diehl's Orchard & Cider Mill [15] is a family-owned and operated orchard and cider mill that has been in business since 1954. The farm sits on 100 acres in Holly, Michigan, and offers a variety of pre-packaged apples including Honeycrisp, McIntosh, Jonathan and Gala. Fall favorites include apple cider, apple butter, apple cider vinegar and Michigan grown popcorn. Diehl’s Orchard and Cider Mill hosts a lot of activities including, educational tours, hayrides, and campfire events. Also, there are picnic areas, playgrounds and haystacks for the kids. Obstbaum Orchards

Located right outside of Detroit in Northville, Michigan, Obstbaum Orchards [16] welcomes families of all sizes. Westview Orchards & Winery

Westview Orchards & Winery [17] is one of Michigan’s oldest orchards. What started as a small family farm in 1813 has expanded into 188 acres of fruit-picking, cider-milling, corn-mazing fun for the entire family. During a visit to the orchard, visitors can stock up on farm fresh seasonal vegetables such as sweet corn and asparagus as well as homegrown fruits like cherries, peaches, and plums. In addition to tasty treats at the bakery, ice cream shop and winery, Westview’s state-of-the-art cider mill churns out fresh apple cider in the fall for everyone to enjoy. Robinette's Apple Haus & Winery

Robinette's Apple Haus & Winery [18] in Grand Rapids, Michigan has been a family farm since 1911. In addition to the cider mill, the family-owned farm has a bakery and a wine tasting room with artwork and unique gifts. Tandem Ciders

Tandem Ciders [19] is located on the Leelanau Peninsula in Northern Michigan. They specialize in making artisan hard ciders with a European flare. The tasting room offers a cozy atmosphere for sampling, mingling, and fun. To help guests understand the story behind the cider, a well-trained staff explains the motivation for each cider. Tandem Ciders also hosts several events throughout the year. Once you've finished sampling the cider, you can head over to Knot Just a Bar [20] for some family dining, relaxation and maybe a couple of drinks as well.

Country Mill

4648 Otto Rd. Charlotte, MI

Fun for the entire family, Country Mill features a cider mill, winery, bakery, farm market and gift shop. Guests may pick apples, blueberries and pumpkins from the orchard when in season. Additionally, the mill also houses a petting zoo and a three-acre catfish pond. Country Mill also features activities like inflatables, train rides, family photo shoots, haunted events in the month of October, and a Lionel Train Layout in the end of November.

VerHage Fruit Farms & Cider Mill

8619 W. ML Ave. Kalamazoo, MI

VerHage Fruit Farms & Cider Mill [21] has moved family fun up a notch by offering free live music, free entertainment for the kinds and the longest zip line in southwest Michigan. Apple season begins the first weekend after Labor day when visitors get to see fresh unpasteurized cider being made from a 125-year-old press. The bakery offers hot cake donuts, homemade pies, cinnamon rolls, fudge, and quiche daily. The Country store features unique gifts, jams, jellies, gourmet treats and Amish goodies. During the week, visitors can book an appointment to “Build Your Own Tour.” Activities include train rides, hay rides, pony rides, gold mining, face painting, and an 850-foot long, 50-foot tall zip line. In addition, the farm hosts an Apple Festival the last Saturday in September to mark its anniversary. Erie Orchards & Cider Mill

Visitors yearn for the savory, fresh blueberries, peaches, apples and pumpkins that are harvested from this family-owned farm. Moreover, Erie Orchards & Cider Mill [23] harvests a variety of apples including Ida Red, Red Delicious, Granny Smith, and Honeycrisp. Visitors get to experience shopping at the country store, picking fruit from the orchard, running through the corn maze, and stopping by the animal center. Customers crave for the cider made from a secret family recipe. Grandma Anderson’s Ice Cream Parlor offers 12 flavors of ice cream and a variety of sandwiches and side dishes. 

Virtue Cider

Virtue Cider [25] is located on a 48-acre farm in Fennville, Michigan. The mill partners with local farmers to find the highest quality heirloom apples. Virtue uses a combination of traditional European farmhouses and modern fermentation techniques to bring customers the best tasting hard cider possible. Moreover, each part of the cider process takes place in a different location on the farm. Grandpa's Cider Mill

Visitors are greeted by a garden of metal dinosaurs on their way to Grandpa’s Cider Mill [28] . Think of it as an introduction of what’s to come. Here visitors get to see apples as they run through the cider press behind a 50-foot glass enclosure. Samples of over 25 flavors are available for guests to enjoy. The on-site bakery offers tantalizing cider donuts, fruit pies, and of course, Grandpa’s famous cider. During the harvest season, families can take part in various activities including a cornfield maze, pond fishing, and a hayride.

Knaebe's Mmmunchy Krunchy Apple Farm

Knaebe’s Mmmunchy Krunchy Apple Farm [29] is a quaint cider mill that features colorful displays, trains running around the walls, and a cozy atmosphere. In addition to the normal donut options, the bakery serves a delicious specialty donut called BAM (bacon, apple, maple) which is absolutely to die for ! Other tasty items include cakes, pies, apple crisps and cookies. IN 2016, the mill opened a new hard cider tasting room where the 4 new Twisted Roots Cider flavors are served to anyone over 21. The tasting room also features local hot dogs and brats with all the fixings!

Kilcherman's Christmas Cove Farm

11573 N. Kilcherman Rd. Northport, MI

Framed by Lake Michigan and Northport Bay, Kilcherman’s Christmas Cove Farm offers apples, cherries, peaches, and plums. Famous for its antique apples, the farm has 250 varieties of apples. Visitors can also enjoy viewing the largest old glass pop bottle collection in the world with more than 10,000 bottles. Also, the property has numerous historical signs hanging in the rafters of its apple barn.

Parshallville Cider Mill History Tour

During this tour you’ll learn about the history of this Michigan Historic Site, aka; Success Flour, Tom Walker’s Grist Mill, and Parshallville Cider Mill. You’ll learn about one of the last remaining water powered mills in the state of Michigan and how Isaac Parshall began his journey from New York to Michigan to find the best site to build his flour mill. Next, you’ll hear stories about the Walker family purchasing the mill and converting it to a grist mill. View original grain tubes and buckets, water turbines and the old fashioned rack and cloth cider press. You’ll visit our press room where you’ll taste our freshly pressed cider and learn all about the process involved to produce fresh Michigan Apple Cider, made the old fashioned way. Visit the mill floor where Tom Walker’s handwriting is still visible today. This mill has a rich history dating back to the mid 1800s and is located on the banks of the North Ore Creek. This tour is perfect for elementary school classrooms to supplement an apple themed curriculum. Your students will have an opportunity to learn about different varieties of apples; how they are transported to our mill, where they came from, and finally what end products are made from Michigan apples (Apple Cider, Apple Pies, Caramel Apples, and Apple Butter, just to name a few). You’ll have an opportunity to sample a few varieties of apples and learn what an Heirloom Apple is. Finally, you’ll visit our press room and learn all about the process involved to produce fresh Michigan Apple Cider, made the old fashioned way. Fall is the time for apple picking and enjoying fresh apple cider. Though Michigan doesn’t have the reputation of Washington State or Massachusetts, as the third-highest apple-producing state, there are tons of apple orchards and cider mills in Michigan .

Some of these provide fun family activities, while others have more adult themes, like locally-made hard cider and haunted houses. No matter what you’re up for, there is something for everyone!

Lewis Adventure Farm And Zoo | New Era Apple Orchard

Not only does Lewis Adventure Farm offer some of the best and freshest apples in West Michigan, but it also doubles as a zoo! This family-friendly farm features not only several fruit orchards but also a petting zoo and playground where kids can go wild.

You can play with animals like camels, wallabies, peacocks, and prairie dogs while eating fresh apples and drinking cider made right on the farm. 

With tons of activities (even a train ride and carousel) this one-of-a-kind location is part farm, part amusement park. Visitors are welcome to pick their own apples in varieties like Braeburn, Greening, Honeycrisp, McIntosh, and more.

Jollay Orchards | Coloma Apple Orchard

Jollay Orchards, located in Coloma, features everything you need for a classic fall apple orchard experience. Here, visitors can pick their own apples and enjoy farm-fresh goodies including produce, baked goods, and much more.

There is a picnic area with grills where you can prepare your own food within sight of the orchard. Apple varieties here include Cameo, Jonathan, Granny Smith, and more.

The farm store, meanwhile, offers up a large variety of treats like jams, jellies, apple cider doughnuts and slushies, and much more. There are also regular events on the farm throughout the year, so make sure to keep your calendar clear. 

Robinette’s Apple Haus And Winery | Grand Rapids Apple Orchard

Robinette’s Apple Haus and Winery in Grand Rapids is an unmissable stop in the autumn. Established back in 1911, it was originally a peach farm. In the century and more since then, it has expanded to include more fresh fruits as well as a farm store and winery. 

There are 35 varieties of apples grown here, with apple picking season running from July to November. Most excitingly, there is no entrance fee. The farm is also home to a cidery, winery, and store, where you can buy fresh, delicious treats.

Visitors can also enjoy free tastings of homemade wines and hard ciders. 

And don’t miss out on the Michigan corn maze at Robinette’s Grand Rapids farm – it’s one of the best fall things to do in Michigan !

Nye’s Apple Barn | St. Joseph Apple Orchard

Nye’s Apple Barn in St. Joseph has been in operation since the late 1800s! Nearly 130 years later, it is still going strong, growing a variety of fruit, including apples, peaches, raspberries, plums, pears, cherries, and grapes. 

Visitors can purchase already-picked apples or hit the orchard for u-pick apples. The farm also has a store, where you can browse the rows of freshly-made apple cider, jams, jellies, Amish pies, bread, and cake, and locally sourced honey and maple syrup . 

If you are looking for a classic fall apple picking experience, it doesn’t get much better than Nye’s Apple Barn — as more than a century of history shows!

Big Dan’s U-Pick-Em | Hartford Apple Orchard

Big Dan’s U-Pick-Em is a simple, no-frills orchard in Southwest Michigan . It is only open for two weeks every fall, but it’s worth the trip. 

Visitors can enjoy a hayride out to the orchard, then help themselves to fresh Honeycrisp apples. There is also apple cider pressed right there on the farm, so you definitely won’t be leaving empty-handed. 

Though it doesn’t have the many attractions of some other apple orchards in West Michigan, Big Dan’s is a tried and true choice that will keep you coming back year after year.

Crane Orchards | Fennville Apple Orchard

Crane Orchards, located in Fennville , offers pick-your-own apples and pumpkins (as well as peaches and cherries earlier in the year). But visitors can also enjoy exploring a corn maze and taking hayrides on this quaint, picturesque farm. 

Young kids will also love the one-of-a-kind “cow train”, a real working train ride that, you guessed it, looks like a row of cows. 

When you are done picking your own apples, make your way back to the on-site bakery and restaurant, where you can buy fresh pies and meals. The orchard also includes a winery, so make sure to stop in for fresh fruit wines and hard ciders. 

VerHage’s Fruit Farms And Cider Mill | Kalamazoo Apple Orchard

VerHage’s Fruit Farms and Cider Mill is West Michigan’s one-stop-shop for fresh fruit, homemade cider, and all kinds of delicious baked goods. 

Even if you’re not into apples or apple cider, VerHage’s bakery is enough to draw anyone on its own. The website boasts that it has the largest list of available pies anywhere in the state. It also sells bread, pie, sweet and savory preserves, apple cider vinegar, and of course, apple cider. 

VerHage’s hosts regular events throughout the year, including live music , family activities, and farm market shows. Apple and cider season officially runs from early September to late November, so make sure to mark your calendar. 

Moelker Orchards And Farm Market | Grand Rapids Apple Orchard

Moelker Orchards and Farm Market in Grand Rapids is a family-owned farm that has been in operation since 1907. This is a charming place to pick your own apples, score some farm-fresh goodies, and have some family-friendly fun.

As with many other orchards, Moelker features a farm store where you can buy homemade jams, preserves, salsa, and baked goods. 

Though there are activities that start as early as July, autumn is the season where Moelker Orchards really shines. Visitors can take a hayride, pick their own apples and pumpkins, or take a tour of the farm.

Wells Orchards | Grand Rapids Apple Orchard

Wells Orchards in Grand Rapids is the perfect stop for autumn fun. This family-owned orchard has been growing fruit for more than a century and still produces apples as well as peaches, pears, plums, cherries, and more. 

The apple orchard is the biggest attraction, with more than 25 apple varieties to be had. But aside from picking your own apples, Wells Orchards offers tons of other fall activities.

Visitors can visit the pumpkin patch , climb on hay bales, enjoy fresh apple cider, or take a wagon ride through the orchard. Kids even get the chance to paint their own pumpkin!

Blok Orchard | Ada Apple Orchard

Blok Orchard in Ada has been in operation since 1964. A family-run farm, it is also a great destination for kids. The apple orchard features dwarf tree varieties, which means all the apples are within easy reach even for children.

With 45 acres of apple trees and 25 varieties, there is no shortage of apples to be had at Blok Orchard. But they’re far from the only attraction. The farm store sells pre-picked produce, including apples, pumpkins, peaches, cherries, blueberries, and much more. 

Of course, there are also other treats for sale, such as locally-made jams, jellies, preserves, and baked goods.
