Kenny Chesney will revisit some of the tour markets that marked the early days of his career when he launches his 2023 I Go Back Tour. The outing will kick off on March 25 at State College, Pennsylvania’s Bryce Jordan Center the first of 21 dates that will criss-cross the country , including stops in Lexington, Kentucky; Grand Rapids, Michigan; Lincoln, Nebraska and more.

“Music has taken me so many incredible places,” Ballerini added. “Around the world, singing with some of my heroes in pop, alternative and contemporary music, but singing with Kenny is going home. He was the only voice I heard on ‘half of my hometown,’ and when he comes in, it’s just like hitting the Knoxville city limits. So to be able to go out to those cities like the place he and I grew up with an artist who’s accomplished what he has, it’s a lot like going home.”

Kenny Chesney Announces 2023 I Go Back Tour with Kelsea Ballerini

“When a year is as hot and alive as 2022 was you don’t want to try to recapture that magic,” country star Kenny Chesney said in a statement.

Instead, the singer has brainstormed ways to make his next tour even bigger than the last. All the while, he promises to bring his shows to fans residing off the beaten tour path.

“I still have the sounds of diesel engines and No Shoes Nation in my head,” the country star continued. “And that made me ask, ‘What else could I do? What would be something that would put me every bit as much in the music and give No Shoes Nation another reason to believe? How can we reach those people who might not come to stadium shows, who live a little off the obvious path, but who love this music every bit as much.”

That’s when it hit him to go back the way he came. The “I Go Back” way. Fittingly, his upcoming tour is named and inspired by his 2004 hit, “I Go Back.”

“That song is about holding all those things that shaped you very close, recognizing how special they are – and keeping them alive any way you can,” he said. “So, I decided that rather than just go repeat what we did, I wanted to take this band and these songs to a lot of the cities we played on our way up! Let’s call the tour I Go Back – and do just that.”

Chesney wants to bring the energy of those early days of touring to his upcoming run of shows. “I remember coming up, the craziness of so many of those dates,” Chesney said. “Markets where people were using chain-cutters to get onto the lawn because we were so sold out in the Carolinas… and that’s a kind of energy that should never be left behind. For all those fans – based on how good last year felt – I want to bring what was coming off that stage to you, where you are, so we can all have that kind of experience together!”

Joining Chesney on the road will be fellow Tennessee native, Kelsea Ballerini. “Kelsea understands everything about where I come from, because she’s from there, too,” Chesney said of his tour mate. “She’s a writer, a girl who sings from her heart and isn’t afraid to honor where she comes from. To me, there was no other choice for this tour.”

The two collaborated on Ballerini’s 2021 single and No. 1 hit, “half of my hometown.”

The I Go Back Tour will kick off on Mar. 25 at Bryce Jordan Center in State College, Pennsylvania, and will criss-cross the country for a 21-date trek.

American Express Card Members can purchase tickets in select markets before the general public beginning Wednesday, Nov. 23 at 10 a.m. local time through Thursday, Dec.1 at 10 p.m. local time. General on-sale will begin Friday, Dec. 2 at 10 a.m. local time.

Kenny Chesney Announces Nostalgic I Go Back Tour for 2023, Featuring Kelsea Ballerini

Kenny Chesney spent much of 2022 playing sold out stadiums on his massive Here and Now Tour. Next year, he'll be going a different direction: Backwards.

The "Summertime" hitmaker has announced a nostalgic tour, the I Go Back Tour, for 2023.

Instead of continuing down the lane of high-occupancy venues, Chesney it planning on taking a turn down memory lane and scaling things back. The trek will take him to venues he played while he was first building his career more than two decades ago.

"'I Go Back' is a song about holding all those things that shaped you very close and keeping them alive anyway you can," he writes. "In 2023, I decided rather than just go repeat what we did on this summer's stadium tour, I wanted to take this band and these songs to a lot of the cities we played on our way up, call it the I Go Back Tour and do just that."

Kelsea Ballerini will join him as direct support on the 19-date trek, which will begin on March 25 in State College, Penn. The two share a sentimental duet titled "Half of My Hometown," which is likely to be performed during the tour's run, keeping in line with the nostalgic theme.

Chesney's I Go Back Tour will conclude in Orange Beach, Ala. on May 27, 2023.

KENNY CHESNEY Announces Dates For “I Go Back 2023 Tour”

Having played to over 1.3 million fans on his Here And Now 2022 Tour , including breaking his personal best at many of the 21 NFL stadium plays, this summer, Kenny Chesney returned to touring with a major burst of everything good. The only country artist to make Billboard ’s Top 10 Touring Acts of the Past 25 Years for the last 14, Chesney wanted to find a completely different way to honor No Shoes Nation for his 2023 concerts.

Kicking off at State College, PA’s Bryce Jordan Center on March 25, the 8-time Entertainer of the Year is set to rock Penn State’s hometown with a vengeance. The 21-date I Go Back 2023 Tour will criss-cross the country, returning to the places Chesney first caught fire including Lexington, KY, Grand Rapids, MI, Lincoln, NE and Oklahoma City, OK as well as headlining the Hy-Vee Indy Race in Des Moines and Tortuga Music Festival in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.

With a few more shows to announce, I Go Back 2023 is set to focus on the same musical intensity and high energy performances that marked the East Tennessean’s precedent-setting concerts. Having been raised in Knoxville, Chesney knows the power of bringing music to the fans – and wants to recognize the bond that live shows create among friends of all ages.

“These songs time stamp people’s lives,” Chesney says. “They put people in their lives, but they also serve as the touchstone for memories in the making. For people to come out and either live these songs again, or hear them for the first time? Who knows what will happen? But I know whether it’s ‘American Kids,’ ‘Get Along’ or ‘You And Tequila,’ every single person knows exactly what we’re singing about and singing along to together.”

Heartland of America Tour

Big Boy No. 4014 will depart on the "Heartland of America Tour" on Wednesday, Aug. 28 from Cheyenne, Wyoming, and travel across nine additional states: Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Texas. The eight-week tour concludes in late October. No. 4014 will be on display in the following locations:  

• Sunday, Sept. 8: Rochelle, Illinois (Chicago metro area)
• Sunday, Oct. 6: Houston, Texas
• Thursday/Friday, Oct. 10-11: Fort Worth, Texas

Note: All schedule times and locations are subject to change. Please check back periodically for updates and be aware there is no public access to the Big Boy outside these listed stops. Overnight stops are closed to the public unless otherwise noted; afternoon arrival times are not available. Questions about the route? Key Definitions 

On Display Admission to display days are free (no tickets required), though parking at surrounding parking facilities may involve a charge. These are the best times to see the Big Boy.

Viewing Only Locations where fans can safely view the Big Boy. In some cases, the Big Boy will be displayed behind a fence or other perimeter. 

Passenger Excursion  Opportunities to ride are rare, but when they are available as a fundraiser for charitable groups, they are listed on this schedule. Any passenger excursion tickets are sold by outside entities -- not Union Pacific -- and are not available on the day of the excursion.  There will not be a passenger excursion during the Heartland of America tour, though there will be an exciting opportunity to ride in the Big Boy's cab! As part of the tour, the Union Pacific Railroad Museum will be auctioning off four cab rides on Big Boy No. 4014, with proceeds going to two worthy causes: the Union Pacific Museum Association and Union Pacific’s Friend-to-Friend Network, a nonprofit that benefits railroad families in times of need, such as medical or natural disaster hardships. The auction starts Monday, Aug. 12 and ends Monday, Aug. 19. Details can be found at https://rarauctions.com/upm .

Overnight Stops Locations where the Big Boy stops overnight are closed to the public due to safety and security reasons, unless otherwise noted on the schedule. Non-employees who access these locations without permission will be treated as trespassers. Afternoon arrival times are not available.

Westward Bound Tour

Earlier this summer, Union Pacific's legendary Big Boy No. 4014  toured in five states during its 2024 Westward Bound Tour from Wyoming to California. In addition, this mighty steam locomotive was on public display for two days each in Roseville, California and Ogden, Utah. During the tour, the Union Pacific Museum  hosted a special, sold-out passenger trip from Roseville to Sparks, Nevada. The unique experience was the annual gala fundraiser for the nonprofit organization and provided a rare opportunity to travel on this historic heritage equipment. In all, Big Boy No. 4014 will visit 14 of the 23 states Union Pacific serves in 2024.

Future Schedules

Last fall, we had anticipated including Boise, Idaho, and Portland, Oregon on the Westward Bound tour. As planning continued, we determined that the network capacity on our northern corridor could not accommodate Big Boy No. 4014 along with anticipated demand on a single track. Our goal is to share the Big Boy with as many rail fans as possible across our network, and we look forward to seeing everyone track side – 25 feet back – this fall.

The guides were all fabulous and there were lots of busses. The only problem was the initial boarding system at the cruise terminal. We had tickets but were made to stand in line for over 30 minutes with all the people who did not have tickets. It was very poorly organized.

As millions of students across the country are heading back to the classroom and hitting the books, U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona is hitting the road for a weeklong back-to-school bus tour.

"I wouldn't be sitting here as secretary of education if it weren't for what my local public school offered me," said Cardona while sitting down with Pittsburgh's Action News 4 reporter Lily Coleman.

"We need to be keeping our foot on the gas pedal and giving our students the best opportunities to succeed," said Secretary Cardona.

The weeklong, multi-state road trip included previous stops in Wisconsin and Michigan. Here in Pittsburgh, he plans to visit a number of local schools, including Keystone Oaks, where he'll touch on teacher recruitment.

"We are going to be discussing their Ed Rising program, which is a really innovative pathway to get high school students excited about becoming teachers," said Cardona.

Other stops in the Steel City include Pittsburgh Faison and Obama schools, where the tour will officially end with a block party celebration.

Secretary Cardona's visit comes on the heels of the deadly school shooting in Winder, Georgia, that claimed the lives of two students and two teachers. Cardona says that he and the Department of Education have reached out to the school district in Georgia to offer his full support.

"What they need is Congress to act," said Cardona before adding, "It's tragic and I worry that as a country, we normalize this or we become desensitized to this. Every parent wants to make sure that when their children get dropped off, that they're going to come back home."
