For several years now Jamestown has been the first stop on the Tour, and the race last year was a driver and fan favorite. Jamestown itself is a city of 15,000 residents surrounded by an economy dominated by agriculture. The ¼ mile high banked track produces great racing and the pit area has room for 300 plus cars. Jamestown was one of the original Tour tracks created way back in 1990.

Minot was the second of the three tracks that united in 1990 to host the Tour and they have been with us ever since. Located on the massive ND State Fairgrounds, surrounded by a city of 40,000 people, the 3/8 mile high banked race track is run by the Nodak Race Club—the oldest racing club in the US. The huge grandstand has seating for over 6,000 spectators, and the pit area has room for well over 200 haulers, with much of it paved. Racing has been a mainstay in Minot for almost 70 years.
MONDAY, JULY 8, 2024
The city has about 15,000 residents and the track is a high banked 3/8 mile facility that has a unique spectator grandstands/concession area that joins the pit area grandstands. How many racing tours go international? Yes, Estevan is in Canada, even though its just a few miles from the border.
TUESDAY, JULY 9, 2024
Williston Basin Speedway is located on the Upper Missouri Fairgrounds and home to the city of Williston-a still busy city of 30,000 plus residents with oil development located nearby. Hotels are now plentiful, and much more economical for the consumer post boom times. The track is a high banked ¼ mile facility with ample pits in the nearby fairgrounds and good camping facilities. Many new improvements have been made to the track and this race is their largest of the year.
WEDNESDAY, JULY 10, 2024
Dickinson is home to many oil companies and has grown to a city of about 20,000 residents. Southwest Speedway is located 10 miles south of town and it is a tight, paper-clipped shaped, high banked 1/4 track that has a unique start/finish line on the back straight away. The pit area has ample room and excellent viewing for pit crews and excellent concessions nearby. Some great racing has been the norm during the Tour at Southwest Speedway since they got involved with the Tour starting in 1991.
THURSDAY, JULY 11, 2024
Just 90 miles straight east of Dickinson is Dacotah Speedway, and home to one of the original tracks on the Tour—Dacotah Speedway. The Mandan-Bismarck area is growing and now home to well over 110,000 residents. The track has hosted a Tour race every year since its inception in 1990. The 3/8 mile high banked track is a driver favorite that has three pit areas and room for well over 200 haulers. The park like facility has seating for 4,000 spectators with can’t miss viewing opportunities and great concessions. Hotel rooms are plentiful with over 2,800 nearby, and on site camping with full services.

Dakota classic modified tour preview:, best of the best to compete in minot sunday.
Adam Papin/MDN Minot’s Adam Goff, in the No. 30A car, tries to move around Bismarck’s James Berg, in the No. 46 car, during Heat #2 of the IMCA Stock Car division at Nodak Speedway on Tuesday night. Goff will race in the Dakota Classic Modified Tour starting today.
The best IMCA Stock Car (Stock) and Modified drivers from across the country and Canada will be making western North Dakota the center of the dirt track racing universe starting tonight in Jamestown, when the 34th Annual Dakota Classic Modified Tour starts. On Sunday, the Tour will invade Nodak Speedway here in Minot.
After the weekend races, the Tour will travel to Estevan Motor Speedway, in Estevan, Saskatchewan on Monday, July 10. From there, it is off to Williston Basin Speedway in Williston on Tuesday and Southwest Speedway in Dickinson on Wednesday, before championship night at Dacotah Speedway in Mandan on Thursday, July 13.
The stacked field includes three IMCA National Champions, and six IMCA Super Nationals Champions, a series of races that could be considered the Super Bowl of dirt track racing. There are a number of past Tour winners who have entered as well.
“It truly is a crown jewel on anybody’s resume,” said Joren Boyce, a three-time champion of the Tour (Modifieds, 1998-99, 2001) from Minot. “I grew up with my dad saying you’re only as good as your competition. When the tour comes to town, if you’re not, you know, running as good as you thought you should, it will always be a learning experience.”
Among the drivers confirmed are defending champion Tom Berry Jr., from Des Moines, Iowa. Berry won the Tour in the Modified division in 2019 and 2022. He is also the defending champion in the Super Nationals, and he won the IMCA National Championship in 2020 in Modifieds. He also won every Modified feature in last year’s Tour.
Joining Berry are national champions Jason Wolla (Modifieds, 2017) and William Gould (Modifieds, 2013). Other Super Nationals Champions include Cody Laney (2021), Kyle Strickler (2014-15) and Jeff Taylor (2012).
There will be a new champion in the Modified division this year, as Berry will only be able to compete in four of the six nights. Trent Drager, a Sykeston native, will be back to defend his title in the Stock division.
At least fifteen states will be represented with numerous drivers coming down from Canada to compete.
While there will certainly be a national and international flavor to the races, that doesn’t mean there is a lack of homegrown talent either. North Dakota and the Minot area will be well represented.
One of the local favorites is Adam Goff, who currently leads Nodak Speedway’s season points race in Stocks, which he will be competing in.
“Adam is having a good year this year,” said Boyce. “He’s having the best year in the stock cars. He’s got a good presentation. Barring some goofy mechanical issues, I see nothing that will keep him out of a top five finish overall.”
It’s Goff’s third Tour start, and like Joyce, he understands a lot has to go right during the week to win.
“We get a lot of out-of-town talent that comes in, and I think it’s great because you’re only as fast as the guys you race weekly,” said Goff. “When you bring these other guys in with different driving styles, it definitely raises the bar.”
Goff is looking forward to Jamestown, because it is one of the few times that Stock gets to race there. However, his favorite track is north of the border.
“My favorite track is probably Estevan,” said Goff. “That’s the one I think the local talents are really going to shine up there and I’m excited for that.”
Six straight nights. Six tracks in six different cities. Two countries. All of it makes the week as much of an endurance race as anything.
“What I was doing in my peak performance on the Tour was I was doing most of my work after the races,” said Boyce. “I felt it was just advantageous to not have the sun shining on me. It was better to go to bed at four or five in the morning than it was to try to hammer out issues when I drove to the next town, trying to get creative at three o’clock in the afternoon.”
“It’s a marathon, and when you have a good night right off the get go, you are committed to try and do the best you can. Whoever wins it all will have had a good first night. That seems to be a fact of the finish.”
Goff looks up to the generation of drivers who came before him including drivers like Boyce and Nathan Burke, a driver from Minot who won the first two Stock titles in the Tour in 2008-09, and a third in 2011, and Wayne Johnson, a forty-year racing veteran in Minot, who is retiring at the end of the year.
“You look up to those guys,” said Goff. “You start talking about how many feature wins those guys have gotten to or track championships, state championships, all that stuff. You always want to be good or better.”
“I wish we could keep getting those cars in there, but they’ve done the tour. They’re not going to go over and run their bodies to the ground on something they’ve already accomplished. I understand that.”
One driver who will factor in the Modifieds is Travis Hagen, of McGregor. Hagen finished second in last year’s Tour, and he is coming off five wins in eight races, including winning three straight wins in the same weekend last month. His latest win, at Nodak Tuesday night, was a wire-to-wire win where he was dominant.
Boyce sees another competitor who might emerge as a favorite over the course of the week: Mandan’s Shawn Strand.
“He was one of the five cars battling it out for the third position in last week’s Modified feature at Nodak,” said Boyce. “But as I shared on Dirt Weekly, I really have seen him driving a part of track that reflects what is going to need to happen during the tour, and that’s racing in the center of the track competitively. I thought he was spending a lot of time there trying to get in the mental zone, the mechanical zone of being good.”
Bottineau’s Gabriel Deschamp is a youngster to keep an eye on. The teenager currently leads the season points standings at Nodak in SportMods Division and sits seventh in the Stock Division. He will be racing in both divisions during the Tour.
No matter which drivers conquers the Tour, fans will be the biggest winners, as they will enjoy some of the best racing they will get to see this summer.
Nonetheless, Goff hopes to see a local driver finish on top.
“Honestly, it’s just cool when a local guy wins this thing in the stock cars. It’s phenomenal for that to happen.”

Dakota Classic Modified Tour begins Saturday in Jamestown
BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - There is nothing like it when the racing world is in our region. Six consecutive nights of racing on six different tracks in two different countries. It’s year 34 for the Dakota Classic Modified Tour.
The tour begins Friday in Jamestown. What John Gartner helped get started over three decades ago has grown into an event that draws drivers from around the country and from north of the border.
“We have cars coming from 15 U.S. states and a whole bunch of Canadian cars coming. Now that the pandemic is over the Canadians are back with us again with Estevan, so we’ve got the cars coming. We’ve got the talent really coming,” said DCMT Director John Gartner.
Gartner said a guy from Mooresville, North Carolina recently signed up and there are six Super national Champions in the group, a few national champions, plus the best of the best in local cars will be competing. Gartner said he does not have to sell the tour anymore, it sells itself.
“We’ve developed a pretty good relationship with the guys down South. It’s too hot to race down there right now, and some of our guys go down there in the winter to Arizona and California to race and it’s worked out good. A lot of these guys have developed friendships and they love to come up here during the summer because the North Dakota people are so hospitable and they like our tracks too,” said Gartner.
After Jamestown, the Tour heads to Minot. Then it’s across the border to Estevan before Williston, Dickinson and championship night is July 13 in Mandan.

2015 Kupper Chevrolet Dakota Classic Modified Tour payout powered up with new partnership from Industrial Electric and RACEFEEDX
Following up to the RACEFEEDX “New Blood, Long Tow” presented by IMCA.TV, officials from the Kupper Chevrolet Dakota Classic Modified Tour are pleased to announce added purse monies from Industrial Electric and RACEFEEDX for the 2015 monster modified tilt. Industrial Electric joins the growing list of Dakota Classic Modified Tour sponsors in the same way so many businesses have joined the tour–as fans of racing! Owner Lynn Hecker of Dickinson, North Dakota, has sponsored several IMCA modified cars over the years and he loves to “see the very best drivers from all over the continent come to North Dakota to compete against some very tough competition right here at home.” He also understands some of the tracks on the tour, like his home track of Dickinson, do not have the grandstand capacity to fund the ever growing payouts the tour needs to attract the best drivers. While in Arizona this past winter watching two of his sponsored drivers, Shawn Strand of Mandan and Jeff Taylor of Cave City, Arkansas, race, the idea was tossed [Read More]
“New Blood, Long Haul” program expanded to entice six drivers to the 2015 Kupper Chevrolet Dakota Classic Modified Tour

The 2015 RACEFEEDX “New Blood, Long Tow” presented by IMCA.TV will fund six new drivers that have never competed on the Kupper Chevrolet Dakota Classic Modified Tour and grant each driver $500 in tow money to offset the cost of traveling to follow the series of races in North Dakota and Canada. Interested drivers can apply for this promotion by visiting the new website of the Kupper Chevrolet Dakota Classic Modified Tour at: http://dakotamodtour.com/2015-new-blood-long-haul/ A full list of requirements for eligibility is listed, including the following: driver must live at least 500 miles from Mandan, North Dakota (home offices of the Tour), driver has never competed in the Tour, drivers who promote competing sponsors to RACEFEEDX and IMCA.TV are ineligible for the program, and other details available [Read More]

Schroeder scores XSAN Hawkeye Dirt Tour checkers with late pass at Osky
OSKALOOSA, Iowa (July 15) – While the list of entries came from eight states and Canada, it was a driver from the Hawkeye State in victory lane following Tuesday’s XSAN Hawkeye Dirt Tour main event at Southern Iowa Speedway. Andrew Schroeder took advantage when race-long leader Todd Shute got high in traffic with four circuits left in the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified series 25-lapper, going low coming out of the second turn to take the front spot away. Schroeder pulled away to win by five car lengths, earning $1,000 and a spot on the ballot for the 2014 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Shute had started on the pole and ended second in the latest Hawkeye Dirt Tour feature to run caution free. Monday night HDT winner and current point leader Mike Van Genderen, Luke Wanninger and Jacob Murray completed the top five. After wrestling second away from Van Genderen on lap 11, Schroeder tried to sneak inside Shute, who pulled ahead and looked to have the race in hand until encountering the back [Read More]
O’Brien is the best of the best in Jamestown IMCA Modified Dakota Classic Tour finale
JAMESTOWN, N.D. (July 11) – Two first-time feature winners took their turns in victory lane following the sixth and final night for the Kupper Chevrolet Dakota Classic Tour. With a track record 80 IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds at Jamestown Speedway Friday, Justin O’Brien took the lead from Steven Pfeifer late in the 30-lapper and outran Justen Yeager for the $2,000 checkers. “This was absolutely the biggest win of my career,” said O’Brien, newly qualified for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. “The best of the best in IMCA were here.” Jeff Taylor clinched the series title with his third-place finish, still in a borrowed car. Pfeifer and Ryan Ruter completed the top five. Point runner-up Jordan Grabouski started last in the field of 26 and finished 12th. Perry Misner almost didn’t capitalize on a rare start near the front of the field, falling back to ninth before rallying to win the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car tour feature and $800. “I had a pretty good car so once I got rolling I was able to [Read More]
Grabouski gets second Dakota Tour win on record-smashing night at Mandan
MANDAN, N.D. (July 10) – For a driver who’s never followed the series before, Jordan Grabouski is making himself right at home on the Kupper Chevrolet Dakota Track Side Tour. With a mind-boggling and new series event record 92 IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds at Dacotah Speedway, Grabouski sped to his second $2,000 feature win of the week Thursday night. Of equal importance, Grabouski climbed to second in the standings going into Friday’s finale at Jamestown Speedway, 17 points behind Jeff Taylor. “The track was really racy,” said Grabouski, who started sixth and led the last 21 circuits of a 30-lapper that ran without caution. “I’ve never been to any of these tracks before but they’ve been a lot of fun. Mandan is a really cool place.” He ran the top side early on, moving lower as the race progressed and he caught up with the back of the pack. “I got slowed down in traffic,” Grabouski said. “When I was running with lapped cars, I wanted to stay cautious and be smart.” Grabouski beat [Read More]
Ruter outruns Dakota Tour Modified foes at Southwest
DICKINSON, N.D. (July 9) – Ryan Ruter proved to be fastest in a fast-paced feature for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds, on another record-setting night for the Kupper Chevrolet Dakota Classic Tour. Ruter led every circuit of Wednesday’s main event at Southwest Speedway. The 30-lapper ran caution-free and Ruter held on for the $2,000 checkers ahead of Jeff Taylor after getting mired in slower traffic. A track record 79 Modifieds ran at Dickinson. Car count records for the division have been broken or equaled each of the first four nights of the 25th annual tour. Taylor ended the night in second, just a car length off the pace. Jordan Grabouski, Jeremy Keller and Scott Drake were third through fifth, respectively. After drawing the outside row one start, Ruter ran the middle line until catching up with the back of the field near midway. His big lead disappeared in traffic but he held off the seventh starting Taylor for the win. Ruter was already on the ballot for the upcoming Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. Grabouski gets ‘huge win’ in Dakota Tour show at Williston
WILLISTON, N.D. (July 8) – A long green flag run ended with Jordan Grabouski taking the Kupper Chevrolet Dakota Classic Tour checkers Tuesday night at Williston Basin Speedway. Grabouski caught Ryan Ruter for the lead nine laps into the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature. The race stayed green for the last 19 of 30 laps with Grabouski getting the $2,000 victory ahead of Steven Pfeifer, hard charger Jeff Taylor, Ruter and Travis Hagen. “This was a huge win for us. This series is tough,” said Grabouski, who started 10th after winning the second ‘B’ feature and used the middle line to find his way forward. “We had a track we could race on and pass. It means a lot to win here.” Taylor, winner of the first two tour events, put on a passing demonstration of his own after starting 19th. Already a qualifier several times over for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot, Grabouski added the Dakota Tour triumph to a list of 2014 accomplishments that already include his 100th career win in [Read More]
Another record car count set as Taylor builds on Dakota Tour success at Estevan
ESTEVAN, Sask. (July 7) – Despite leading all 30 laps, Jeff Taylor got to enjoy Monday’s Kupper Chevrolet Dakota Classic Tour main event at Estevan Motor Speedway from a couple perspectives. Taylor won his second IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified tour event in as many nights while Steven Pfeifer was second and Shawn Anderson fourth in Taylor Chassis rides. “I’d have been happy with either one of them passing me and winning,” Taylor said. “I’d have been tickled to death.” The win was worth $2,000 and came in a contest slowed by caution just once, on lap 12. Curt Lund was third and Shawn Anderson fifth. Seventy-six Modifieds from 14 states and Canada ran at Estevan. That’s the most ever entries for the division north of the border as the series set new car count records in the first two events of 2014. “I never thought about winning the first two races of this series. It’s the first time I’ve ever started a series like this,” said Taylor, who’d topped the Sunday show at Nodak [Read More]
