Tourists and residents alike can take advantage of the many cruises that depart from New York City, offering easy access to warm weather getaways, family vacations, expeditions, and more. After all, nothing screams adventure like sailing away from the Big Apple with the Statue of Liberty and iconic city skyline in your wake.
Plus, New York is home to the oldest cruise terminal in the United States. Nowadays, there are two hubs, one in Manhattan and another in Brooklyn . An additional cruise terminal, in Cape Liberty in Bayonne, New Jersey, also serves the area.
The Manhattan cruise terminal is located on the edge of Midtown, making it easy to spend port days or pre-cruise time exploring Times Square, Central Park, or the Theater District. The Empire State Building and iconic department stores including Macy’s Herald Square are also within walking distance of the Manhattan cruise port.
The Brooklyn cruise port is a 15-minute drive from Brooklyn Bridge Park , which offers some of the best views of downtown Manhattan. If you're looking to stretch your legs, the walk across the Brooklyn Bridge into Manhattan offers just over a mile of picturesque city viewpoints. While Bayonne, New Jersey may not be a huge tourist destination, sailing from Cape Liberty does provide a postcard-perfect look at the Manhattan skyline and its famous neighbor, the Statue of Liberty.

Viking offers ocean cruises between New York and Reykjavik in June, August, and September.
Trade the soaring skyscrapers of New York City for coastal Canada, remote Greenland, and endless Icelandic summer days. This Viking itinerary makes two stops in Canada and two stops in Greenland before circumnavigating Iceland, beginning with the remote Westfjords and ending in Reykjavik. Sail the same seas as legendary Norse explorer Leif Erikkson (on a far more luxurious Viking ship) while learning about the American Revolution and Canadian exploration from the cruise line’s resident historian. MSC’s Meraviglia sails from New York to Bermuda, Canada, New England, the Bahamas, and Florida and can accommodate up to 5,642 passengers across 2,214 staterooms. Norwegian Prima is one of the best cruises for solo travelers departing from New York City.
On most cruise lines, traveling solo means paying up to double the fare for a cabin to yourself, but not on the Norwegian Prima . This ship has a special area set aside for solo travelers with 73 studio suites and a private common area for mingling. Each of the Norwegian Prima’s 95-square-foot studio suites comes with a full-size bed, en suite bathroom, and a vanity table. And while space inside these studios are tight, you’ll likely be so busy go-karting, lounging by the pool, taking in shows, and relaxing in hot tubs, it’s unlikely you’ll find yourself spending much time in the room beyond catching some shut eye. The Norwegian Prima sails to Bermuda and the Caribbean from New York and offers a transatlantic repositioning itinerary.Best transatlantic cruise from New York

These seven-night roundtrip sailings depart from Cape Liberty in Bayonne, New Jersey, making it especially easy to combine a visit to the Statue of Liberty with your cruise.
Hop on the Seabourn Quest in October for an unforgettable journey through the colors of autumn. Spend a gorgeous fall day in Central Park before setting sail from New York to Montréal by way of Martha's Vineyard, Boston, Halifax, and Prince Edward Island on a 12-day itinerary along the eastern seaboard. It wouldn’t be a trip to NYC without a stop at the overwhelming, world-famous Times Square, a stretch of several blocks of bright, flashing billboards and crowds clamoring for neon photos.
Top Things to Do in New York
Walk in central park.
Central Park is one of the largest parks in a metropolitan area. Comprised of over a mile of green space and walking trails, it offers a killer view of lower Manhattan from certain vistas. When you’re craving some time in nature in the middle of this loud, humming city, head to Central Park for a walk, a picnic, or just to people-watch.
Go to a Broadway Show
Theater lovers will plan an entire trip to New York around a single Broadway musical or play. If you can snag tickets, you’ll be front and center to some of the biggest performers and talents in the world, whether you’re seeing an established, multi-run show or something artsy off-Broadway.
Pay Respects at the 9/11 Memorial
Built to honor the lives lost as a result of the tragic attacks on September 11, 2001, the 9/11 Memorial is a harrowing must-see experience during a trip to New York. It relays the significance of the terrorist attacks not only on the New York community, but the United States as a whole.
Where should I eat in New York?
New York offers nearly every type of cuisine in the world, whether you’re craving an authentic New York slice of pizza or prefer to stop at one of the halal food trucks scattered throughout Manhattan. There are dozens of restaurants along every block. Famous spots include Peter Luger Steakhouse in Williamsburg, Katz Delicatessen, Gramercy Tavern, and Grand Central Oyster Bar.
What’s the culture and history of New York?
Native American groups have lived in the area now known as New York for thousands of years, and European settlement of the area didn’t begin until the 15th century. In the 1600s, the Dutch West India Company began a colony called “New Amsterdam” and expanded their living quarters into what we know now as Manhattan. The local population boomed, and the New Amsterdam area became known as a trade hub between the Dutch, Europeans, and the New World. By the mid-1600s, the British took control and kept it until after the Revolutionary War. During the 19th century, the melting pot of New York that the city is now famous for began to take shape as Ellis Island welcomed millions of immigrants from Ireland, Italy, and Germany. People from around the world settled throughout the five boroughs. Today, New York symbolizes the promise of an America with open arms for all types of people, and New York’s food, attractions, and cultural institutions celebrate that diversity.
Where can I go shopping near the cruise port?
For a glimpse of New York’s famous shopping scene, find a nearby subway station and head to Fifth Avenue or Madison Avenue, where you’ll find every luxury brand under the sun. SoHo boasts many of the biggest names and rising brands in fashion and design, while the windows of famous department stores like Macy’s and Bloomingdales attract thousands of eyes during the an. Of course, souvenir shacks with memorabilia of the Statue of Liberty, Times Square, and the Chrysler Building aren’t hard to find either.
How can I get around New York City?
Getting to New York City from the cruise terminal is easy. There are several options including hailing a taxi, taking a train on the PATH Rapid Transit System train to Manhattan, or boarding a bus that will drop you off in the Port Authority Bus Terminal. Once you are there, the options for getting around the five boroughs are plentiful, as New York has one of the most comprehensive public transit systems in the U.S. The subway operates 24/7. If you’ve decided to stick to landmarks in a particular neighborhood, you’ll be able to get around on foot. If you’re tired, you can hail one of the city’s famous yellow cabs. Rideshares also operate here.
What are the local currency & tipping customs?
The U.S. Dollar (USD) is the official currency of NYC, and you’ll find ATMs are widespread. Most major credit cards are accepted as well, but it’s helpful to carry cash with you when you shop at bodegas. Many bars have a minimum purchase amount for credit or debit card use.

2-Hour Day Sail to Statue of Liberty on America 2.0
This sailing tour is one of the most enjoyable boat tours I’ve ever done in New York! On board on this 105-foot schooner you sail from the Chelsea Piers to the Statue of Liberty and can always see the beautiful skyline of Manhattan and New Jersey. Included in the price is a drink and guaranteed a lot of fun.
Classic Harbor Line: Champagne City Lights Cruise
We had an amazing time onboard the luxurious 1920s inspired motor yacht. Combine sightseeing with a romantic evening and step onboard the 1920s inspired boat at Pier 62 (Chelsea Piers – W. 22nd and Hudson River). During the 90-minutes long tour, you’ll get to see iconic NYC sights along the water and most importantly breathtaking views of the Manhattan skyline. Especially in the summer, you can admire the most beautiful sunset during this special cruise. There is seating inside the yacht and outside seating as well.
Live Jazz City Lights Sail
This 90-minute live jazz sail is one of the best NYC sails I’ve ever done. You’ll sail from Chelsea Piers to New York Harbor, always with the beautiful skyline and Statue of Liberty in view. What you can expect on the Live Jazz City Lights Sail and why you should definitely do it, I’ll tell you in my report!
Sunset Sail Aboard a Schooner
This sailing tour is so beautiful – I’ve done it myself! Aboard the Schooner America 2.0 you sail towards the Statue of Liberty and experience one of the most romantic sunsets in New York. The atmosphere on board is really great and relaxed, while you can admire the Manhattan skyline the whole time. Even a drink is included! Be sure to check it out!
Skyline Brunch Cruise Around Manhattan
This brunch cruise is one of the most beautiful boat tours in New York. You sit aboard a 1920s-style ship with lots of wood and even more glass. The provider has several wonderful boat tours in the program, of which we have already tried four (and all were great!).
Start at Pier 62 at Chelsea Piers – this is where you board. First you start towards the George Washington Bridge, then turn south to the Statue of Liberty, New York Harbor and the Brooklyn Bridge . You can enjoy the view of the New York skyline and have a delicious brunch with New York specialties. The first drink (even champagne!) is even included in the price.
Circle Line - Harbor Lights Night Cruise
The Harbor Lights Cruise by Cricle Line is an amazing way to see the NYC from the water. As the lights start to sparkle across the Hudson and East Rivers at dusk you see the beauty of the city at night from a whole different angle.
Classic Harbor Line: Architecture Yacht Cruise
The architecture boat tour takes you around Manhattan in 2.5 hours. On a 30 meter long wooden ship in the style of the 1920s you can relax and learn a lot of interesting facts about the many small and large buildings of the city. The tour is super-relaxing and the price includes a drink (vino, soft drinks) and small snacks.
Sunset Boat Cruise to Statue of Liberty
This sunset boat ride to the Statue of Liberty departs from Pier 36 on the East River. From here you will sail along the East River towards the southern tip of Manhattan, passing under the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridge.
Then you continue to the Statue of Liberty and a little bit up the Hudson River, so that you can see the skyline of New York from both sides of Manhattan.
Bateaux Lunch Cruise
This boat tour with lunch on board the Bateaux New York will take you from the Hudson River to the East River, which means you will see all the major buildings of the NYC skyline. And of course, the Statue of Liberty is included! Since the atmosphere on the Bateaux Lunch cruise is a bit more formal, guests are asked to wear long pants and no shorts or hot pants or flip flops.
Circle Line - New York Landmarks Cruise
This Circle Line cruise will take you past NYC’s most famous attractions and landmarks. You will head past the Statue of Liberty, the One World Trade Center, the Empire State Building, Ellis Island, the Brooklyn Bridge, amd much much more. If you are looking to explore Manhattan from the water and learn some of the history of NYC at the same time, this is definitely the cruise for you. At a lenght of approximately 1.5 hours, this cruise will take you half way around the Island of Manhattan as well as once around the Statue of Liberty for the ultimate photo opportunity.
Classic Harbor Line: Evening Jazz Cruise on the Yacht Manhattan
From one of our absolute favorite boat tours in New York there is also a Jazz Cruise. You are on board a luxury yacht in the style of the 1920s, which has a wonderful charm and is not to be compared with the big sightseeing ships. The jazz cruise starts at the Chelsea Piers and takes you along the Hudson River to the Statue of Liberty and the harbor of New York. On the way you can enjoy a wonderful view of the New York skyline and smooth jazz at the same time.
And the best part? The first drink is included in the price of the Jazz Cruise!

One of New York’s most popular tourist attractions is the Staten Island Ferry, which commutes between the southern tip of Manhattan and Staten Island. The crossing is free of charge! Published on March 4, 2020
Goodbye sweater weather, hello sunshine — summer is just around the corner. But it’s also the ideal time of year to get out of town and check some new vacation destinations off your bucket list on the perfect summer getaway, whether you’re a parent with kids who are out of school, a student in between semesters, or just someone who’s craving a little change in scenery.
This year, add a well-deserved Caribbean getaway to your summer agenda. It doesn’t matter if you’re trying to plan a week-long family vacation to exotic southern shores or a last-minute sun-soaked island hop with your besties. You don’t even have to board an airplane — there are plenty of tropics-bound cruises to choose from sailing out of the New York Area.

The 5 best nyc dinner cruises for food & views.
These dinner cruises provide some of the best views of Manhattan.
The Best NYC Dinner Cruises
Courtesy of La Barca Cantina
When you're strolling the streets of Manhattan, it can be difficult to grasp the magnitude of the city, with its skyscrapers and densely packed landmarks. The solution? A boat ride. A breezy sail in New York Harbor can feature everything from an elegant dinner to a live jazz band to tacos and tequila. Read on to discover the top-rated New York City dinner cruise options as determined by travel expert opinion and recent reviews.
City Cruises New York Bateaux Premier Dinner Cruise
Price: From $144 Duration: 3 hours Standout perk: This all-glass boat delivers panoramic skyline views.
Climbing aboard the Bateaux feels like stepping into a greenhouse, with its glass-enclosed structure and water views in every direction. There are no bad seats on this boat, but as an upgrade you can reserve a window table for the best views of the Hudson River, the East River and the New York Harbor. This cruise is a match for anyone seeking elegance: The tables are covered in crisp white cloths, wine and cocktails are served in sparkling glasses, and a three-course a la carte dinner is served at a relaxed pace (no buffet here).
The Bateaux cruise is an experience to get dressed up for, where the dress code is semi-formal and dinner is accompanied by live music. The sunset can provide the perfect backdrop for pictures, and don't forget to snap a shot of the Statue of Liberty . Children younger than 6 are not permitted on this cruise, so expect a polished, for-adults atmosphere complete with creative cocktails and dancing under the stars. The Bateaux has rightfully earned a reputation for its fresh food; this three-course, plated menu includes several tempting a la carte options from a ravioli starter with crispy pancetta to osso bucco with cauliflower polenta.

City Cruises New York Signature Dinner Cruise
Price: From $109 Duration: 2.5 hours Standout perk: A live DJ gives this dinner cruise an extra dose of atmosphere.
Looking for a casual night of dining and dancing with the addition of a skyline backdrop? This dinner cruise offers just that. Set sail from Chelsea Piers in a climate-controlled boat along the Hudson and East rivers, admiring New York City landmarks like the Empire State Building . For dinner, indulge in a chef-prepared buffet with a wide range of options from Greek salad to oven-roasted salmon with miso to Caribbean jerk braised pork. If you're bringing a sweet tooth on board, be sure to check out the ample dessert station.
After snapping some pictures on the open-air deck, return to the cabin for cocktails from the cash bar, interactive games and upbeat music from the onboard DJ.
Those traveling with young kids will be pleased to know that infants younger than 3 cruise free – so feel free to bring your little ones along to enjoy the experience with you.
La Barca Cantina
Price: Varies Duration: 2 hours Standout perk: You'll find an extensive tequila and mezcal list on board to accompany the Mexican fare.
One criticism of New York dinner cruises is that they don't offer good value for money, but the "taco boat" challenges that critique with ceviche, tacos, churros, cocktails and skyline views for an affordable price. Climb aboard a yacht at Pier 81 to experience a youthful, modern interpretation of a dinner cruise – think: low lighting, couches for lounging and three bars, complete with Latin pop, salsa and dance music playing in the background. Raise a glass while the yacht sails south on the Hudson River to check out world-famous Manhattan skyline views.
La Barca Cantina also offers a bottomless brunch cruise with a DJ, as well as special events.

Classic Harbor Line NYC Evening Jazz Cruise
Courtesy of Classic Harbor Line
Price: From $108 Duration: 1.5 hours Standout perk: A jazz trio typically featuring a sax, keyboard and drums plays live on board.
Listen to jazz standards aboard a 1920s-style yacht with this fun sightseeing cruise departing from Pier 62 in Chelsea Piers. Choose between kicking back in the climate-controlled cabin or on the open-air deck throughout this evening cruise, which includes views of Manhattan landmarks such as the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Live music is played outside on the deck or inside the salon, depending on the season (and the boat, Manhattan or Manhattan II).
While this cruise doesn't offer dinner, one complimentary alcoholic beverage is included, and a cash bar offers additional drinks and snacks. Listen to music by Duke Ellington, George Gershwin and more as you sail past the twinkling Manhattan skyline. Those traveling in a group should keep in mind: Tickets are slightly discounted for groups of 4 to 16.
Circle Line New York City Harbor Lights Cruise
Courtesy of Circle Line
Price: From $54 Duration: 2 hours Standout perk: This no-fuss, excellent-value cruise option has drinks and snacks available for purchase on board.
When you're craving panoramic views rather than a three-course meal, choose the Circle Line's Harbor Lights cruise departing from Pier 83. This sightseeing sailing delivers an up-close experience of the Manhattan skyline lights coming to life, while cruising past landmarks including the Brooklyn Bridge and the Chrysler Building . A live guide provides narration and historical context for what you're seeing. As the sun sets behind New Jersey, watch the glow of the sinking sun reflect in the windows of skyscrapers.
Food from the onboard cafe – like salads, sandwiches and snacks – as well as beer, wine and cocktails at the bar are available for purchase. This is an ideal situation for groups with varying levels of hunger and thirst. Sit alfresco in the breeze or indoors in the climate-controlled cabin – it's up to you.
Non-English-speaking guests can download the Circle Line app for narration available in several languages; just be sure to bring your own headset.

2025 Bermuda Cruises: Take a Vacation to This Island Paradise
With its beautiful pink beaches and crystal-clear turquoise waters, Bermuda offers an ideal island escape. In 2025, plan a cruise to Bermuda on an unforgettable vacation with Norwegian Cruise Line. Whether you want a quick weekend getaway or a relaxing week in the sun, there's a Norwegian cruise to Bermuda for you to enjoy.
Ready to start planning? Explore all Bermuda cruises .
Norwegian's Bermuda Cruises in 2025
In 2025, you can sail to the picturesque island of Bermuda from Boston or New York . Regardless of where you depart, you'll arrive at Bermuda's Royal Naval Dockyard. Located on the island's West End, the dockyard offers a breathtaking view of the harbor and the sparkling waters of the North Atlantic Ocean.
At the Royal Naval Dockyard , you can explore charming craft shops and local markets, picking up some souvenirs for your loved ones who weren't lucky enough to join you on your cruise vacation. The dockyard, built in the 19th century and later restored to its former splendor, also houses the National Museum. Perfect for history buffs, the museum explores the island's past and offers insights into its culture and heritage.
You'll also have the opportunity to leave the dockyard and take advantage of all the island has to offer. Whether you want to dive into the ocean waters, relax on the pink sand beaches, or get lost in the Bermuda Triangle, Norwegian offers the perfect shore excursion for you. Here are just a few of the experiences you can have on this slice of island paradise.
Shipwreck and Coral Reef Snorkel Combo
You'll have access to a variety of snorkeling excursions, but we suggest this unique shipwreck and coral reef snorkeling combo . As part of this experience, you'll set sail on a snorkel boat to visit the Constellation, a cargo ship that sank off the coast of Bermuda during World War II. You'll see the remains of the Constellation from the boat before getting in the water to snorkel, giving you an up-close view of the wreck. Later, you'll travel to a second location to snorkel in a secluded area, where you'll enjoy the underwater sights of the vibrant coral reef.
Bermuda Triangle Cruise
Come on, you're at least a little curious about the Bermuda Triangle, aren't you? According to urban legend, this ocean region has been the site of numerous mysterious disappearances. Whether or not you believe the myth, a cruise to the Bermuda Triangle will be an event to remember. On this evening cruise, you'll experience the darkness of the ocean on a glass-bottomed boat. As you sail beneath the twinkling stars, crew members will explain the notoriety of the Bermuda Triangle and give you a unique perspective on the coral and fish that call this part of the ocean home.
Prefer to spend your time on the green instead? There are plenty of idyllic golf courses in Bermuda for you to enjoy. The Belmont Hills Golf Course offers stunning views of Hamilton Harbour and the Great Sound. The course has over 6,100 yards of bunkers, various water hazards, and narrow fairways, making it a fun, challenging course for even the most experienced golfers.

Crystal Caves
Did you know there are caves on the island? This family-friendly excursion will take you to Bermuda's northernmost point. Here, you'll find the Crystal Caves, which were discovered in 1907 by a teenager who lost a cricket ball in the caverns. On this excursion, you'll take a tour of the stunning caves, walking on a bridge over a clear lake surrounded by stalactites.
After your time at the caves, you'll travel to a nature reserve on another part of the island. You'll get some downtime to visit one of six beaches in the area. Lounge on the beach or take a dip in the ocean as the sun shines brightly overhead.
Sunset Rum Cruise
You can't leave Bermuda without trying a rum swizzle, widely known as the country's national drink. What better way to enjoy this delicious beverage than on a sunset cruise? On your rum cruise , you'll sail to the Great Sound, where you can view some island homes and learn more about the island's history. A rum expert — appropriately known as a rumologist — will guide the tour, allowing you to try different local rums. If you like what you taste, you can purchase some bottles to take home as gifts or keep for yourself.
If you want a unique experience while docked in Bermuda, plan to tour the island on an electric bike. You won't have to worry about pedaling up hills since the bike gives you a boost, allowing you to relax and enjoy the island sights. Starting on the island's Eastern End, you'll travel along different trails, exploring parts of the island many tourists never see. From seaside landscapes to shoreline beaches, the views on this e-bike tour will give you a new appreciation of this incredible island.
Island Drive
Do you have FOMO (fear of missing out)? If so, the Bermuda Island Drive tour is perfect for you. After docking, you'll depart the cruise ship and board a comfortable bus for a full tour of the island. As part of the drive, you'll see the island's Horseshoe Bay, famous for its charming pink sand beaches. Other notable highlights on this tour include the Gibbs Hill Lighthouse, Somerset Bridge, and the town of St. George's. You'll end the tour in the island's capital city, Hamilton, where you can shop or dine before returning to the dockyard.
Regardless of the excursion you choose, you'll have the time of your life on a Norwegian cruise to Bermuda. Want to be the first to know about special offers to this magical island? Sign up for emails to get the latest Norwegian cruise deals and book your Bermuda cruise for 2025 .

Breaking news, nelson demille, best-selling author and long island native, dead at 81.
Best-selling author Nelson DeMille has died at 81, The Post can confirm.
His children, daughter Lauren DeMille, of Sleepy Hollow, and son Alex DeMille, of Brooklyn, confirmed his death Tuesday evening.
“Nelson fought a valiant nine-month battle with esophageal cancer,” his family said in a statement to The Post. “True to form, he faced this ordeal with courage, grace, and good humor. We are grieving, but also celebrating his wonderful life and his lasting legacy as a father, friend, and storyteller.”
Born in Long Island, DeMille was known for his suspense and action novels, such as “Plum Island,” “The Charm School” and “The General’s Daughter,” which was adapted into a 1999 movie starring John Travolta.
In a March 2000 interview, the prolific author told January Magazine , “It wasn’t a bad movie. Travolta did a good job. I liked most of it. They overdeveloped some stuff and forgot other stuff and put things in that weren’t in the book that didn’t need to be put in… But I mean, as a whole, the movie was powerful. It got terrible reviews from the critics, though.”
According to his website , Nelson DeMille was born on Aug. 23, 1943, in New York City, before his family moved to Long Island. He attended Hofstra University.
Before his writing career, DeMille went into the Army and earned a Bronze Star in Vietnam.
DeMille wrote 23 novels in his lifetime, 17 of which were best sellers. He wrote his novels in longhand with pencils and legal pads.
His first novel was “By the Rivers of Babylon,” published in 1978.
Many of his novels, such as “The Lion’s Game,” followed the character John Corey, an ex NYPD officer working for a fictional Anti-Terrorist Task Force.
“He’s not politically correct,” he told January Magazine, talking about his John Corey character.
“If you’re a federal government worker you watch your Ps and Qs. You watch what you say to women, about women. You watch what you say in terms of ethnic slurs. But John Corey doesn’t care about any of that, he just lets it rip and everybody is aghast at him.”
He added, “And it was kind of fun. It was fun for me and if it was fun for me I knew it was going to be fun for the reader.”
In a 2022 interview with Crime Spree Mag , DeMille said that he was having issues with his publisher wanting to make “politically correct” edits on John Corey.
“There was some pushback on the John Corey character,” he said. “They wanted me to make changes, which I would not make except for a few.”
DeMille added, “I do know who I am writing for, and this book will debut in the top three. The problem is not that these books are losing readers or do not sell well. These are huge best sellers. The publishers are not concerned with the financial end, but the politics of it, the wokeness. They are nervous about the character. I replied that ‘I am writing for my readers, not you.'”
“He’s always been someone who brings people together,” his son Alex told Newsday.
“I have lots of fond memories sitting around the dining room table, the Christmas tree, or in the kitchen having coffee or wine, he was just a wonderful host. He got joy out of being around people.”
Lauren recalled that her father was both a storyteller and a good listener.
“He was interested, asked the right questions and really got what was really funny or interesting about something you were sharing,” she told the outlet. “Very engaged, which was part of what made him loved by so many people. You just felt so good when he was interested in what you were saying. He had a very interesting, generous mind.”
DeMille, whose wife, Sandra, died in 2018, is survived by Lauren, Alex and another son, James.
