Miami v North Carolina

This weekend, the North Carolina Tar Heels will take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the first high-profile home game of the 2022 season. It should be a very exciting game for both Heels and Irish fans alike, as it is always electric in Kenan Stadium when these two teams meet. The game will kick off at 3:30pm/ET, which means there will be plenty of time to enjoy some pre-game festivities on campus, including everybody’s favorite activity: tailgating.

As a Research Triangle local, I’ve gotten to witness people from all over the country move to the area, so this weekend could be your first time navigating Carolina football pre-game festivities. That is why we here at Tar Heel Blog wanted to put together a tailgating guide for anybody unfamiliar with where all of the hot spots are, and also give a rundown of pre-game traditions ran by the school. Let’s begin.

Tailgating Locations

Football fans can arrive on campus as early as 8am to begin tailgating activities at various locations on campus. First, if you would like to set up your tailgate further away from the stadium, the option is available to set up shop at one of the Park and Ride lots, and after you’re done the Tar Heel Express can transport you to Kenan Stadium for the game. It costs $5 for a round-trip, and $3 for a one-way trip. All of the buses drop off along South Road in front of Carmichael Auditorium, and this is also where the shuttle will pick up following the game.

For anybody that prefers to tailgate closer to the stadium, the public parking lots are where you will be able to set up shop. Here are the available lots for the game:

- $5 Cameron-Graham Lot

West Cameron Ave, Chapel Hill 27514

- $10 Cardinal Deck

West Drive, Chapel Hill, NC 27514

- $10 Jackson Deck

East Drive, Chapel Hill, NC 27514

- $10 Hibbard Lot

700 Hibbard Drive, Chapel Hill, NC 27514

- $10 South Chiller Lot

342 Mason Farm Road, Chapel Hill, NC 27514

- $10 Manning Lot

Skipper Bowles Drive, Chapel Hill, NC 27514

- $10 General Administration Lot (shuttle included 1.5 hours prior - to game time)

910 Raleigh Rd, Chapel Hill, NC 27514

- $10 440 North

324 W Rosemary St, Chapel Hill, NC 27516

It is worth noting that if you would like to set up an RV, you will be able to do so at the Friday Center Park and Ride Lot. There is no public RV parking available on campus, so do keep this in mind when planning for game day.

Finally, there are tailgating festivities that take place at the Kenan Amphitheater, Bell Tower, and surrounding locations. Kenan Pines is also an option available in the historic woods surrounding Kenan Stadium. Let’s discuss these two options a bit further, as these are a bit more unique than the other options.

Tailgating packages

UNC offers a few different tailgating packages for anybody who wants to claim a spot for the full season, for two games, or for individual games. They offer three different packages: Letterman, All American, and Club. These packages vary in how many guests are allowed, the size of the tents, and other tailgating supplies. If you are interested in learning more and would like to explore pricing options, you can check out this link and there are instructions for who you can call for more details.

The other package option is Kenan Pines, but unfortunately the tickets for the Notre Dame game seem to be sold out. Located in the woods surrounding Kenan Stadium, the tailgating experience includes yard games, food and beverages, TVs, and more. There are still tickets available for the Wofford game, so if this experience sounds like something for you, I recommend clicking this link and placing your order as soon as possible.

Pre-game traditions

Once you are done tailgating with your friends and family, there are a few pre-game activities that you should check out. The Bell Tower Walk takes place on the corner of Stadium Drive and South Road two and a half hours before the game. Here you can greet the football team as they follow the Marching Tar Heels and cheerleaders to Kenan football stadium.

Once the Bell Tower Walk is over, check out Tar Heel Town located at Polk Place. There you will find food, music, giveaways, and family activities, and the Marching Tar Heels put on a special performance one hour before every game. Once you’ve had enough food and fun, head on into Kenan Stadium and cheer the Tar Heels to victory!

Experiencing everything there is to offer for Carolina football games is truly a joy each and every Saturday. For Tar Heel fans that are perhaps going to Kenan Stadium for the first time, I hope that this guide was helpful in helping you plan your first tailgating experience. For Notre Dame fans, I hope this helps with your tailgating as well, and if navigating campus becomes too daunting, don’t be afraid to ask for help from someone in Carolina blue! They will be more than happy to help make your game day experience as awesome as possible.

Happy tailgating, and Go Heels!

UNC Football: Zion Ferguson sets official visit date

By jordan falls | may 10, 2023.

CHAPEL HILL, NORTH CAROLINA - NOVEMBER 19: A detailed view of a University of Virginia helmet sticker, in honor of the three Virginia football players who were killed in a shooting, is seen on the helmet of a North Carolina Tar Heels player during their game against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at Kenan Memorial Stadium on November 19, 2022 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. (Photo by Grant Halverson/Getty Images)

Zion Ferguson, a four-star cornerback in the Class of 2024, has set a date for an official visit with the UNC Football program.

Zion Ferguson announced on his Twitter page yesterday that he would be taking an official visit to the UNC football program next month.

Ferguson is a six-foot cornerback from Gainesville, Georgia. According to  247Sports , he is a three-star cornerback but has a four-star composite rating, ranking as the 24th-best cornerback in the class of 2024.  ESPN Recruiting  has Ferguson as a four-star as well.

This visit may surprise those who follow college football recruiting and the UNC football program closely. Ferguson committed to the LSU program in September of 2022. However, the lack of depth (and production) on the defensive side of the ball for UNC football may have Ferguson reconsidering his decision, who has said that he is keeping his options open despite being committed to the Tigers.

Mack Brown and the UNC football program have been recruiting Ferguson heavily even after his commitment. In March, Ferguson went on a tour of visiting schools, including a visit to LSU and a visit to Chapel Hill . Now, it appears he would like to re-visit the UNC football program for a weekend as he will be visiting from June 23 thru June 25.

Other schools that are involved in Ferguson recruitment are Arkansas, Auburn, Michigan, and Oregon. Pursuing Ferguson after his commitment to LSU is showing him other schools are still interested, and if for any reason LSU were to let up on their recruitment, anyone could slide in and flip the talented four-star corner to their program.

LSU has talent and depth on the defensive side of the ball that the UNC football program doesn’t have when recruiting for the 2024 class. Could that impact Ferguson? Can Mack Brown add talent to a secondary lacking depth?

Duke Football Saves Date for Potential End of Rivalry Losing Streak

Matt giles | sep 17, 2024.

Duke football head coach Manny Diaz

  • North Carolina Tar Heels
  • Duke Blue Devils

First-year Duke football head coach Manny Diaz, whose 2019-21 stint at Miami coincided with the first three years in Mack Brown's return to the UNC football throne, is 0-3 as a head coach against the Tar Heels. Those losses include a 62-26 letdown in 2020 following his then-No. 9 Hurricanes' 48-0 blowout win over David Cutcliffe's Blue Devils and 8-1 start to their season.

Meanwhile, the Duke football program's losing streak against UNC has grown to five. Moreover, Mack Brown has prevailed 13 straight times in the rivalry, spanning four Blue Devil head coaches (Cutcliffe, Mike Elko, Fred Goldsmith, Barry Wilson) since falling at home to Steve Spurrier and his bunch, 41-0, in 1989.

Diaz's Blue Devils get their shot to reclaim the Victory Bell when Brown's Tar Heels arrive on Sept. 28 for a Saturday bout in Wallace Wade Stadium.

And as of Monday, the 2024 Duke-UNC kickoff time and broadcast network are set: 4 p.m. ET on ESPN2. Duke football advised Blue Devil fans to "Mark those calendars":

Mark those calendars 🚨 pic.twitter.com/CTNziC1gqS — Duke Football (@DukeFOOTBALL) September 16, 2024

Entering its road battle against Middle Tennessee State (1-2, 0-1 Conference USA) at 4 p.m. ET Saturday (ESPNU), Duke football is off to a 3-0 start (0-0 ACC) in the Manny Diaz era. Most recently, the Blue Devils displayed a refuse-to-lose mentality in Saturday night's 26-21 home victory over UConn after pulling off a perseverant 26-20 road win in double overtime at Northwestern in Week 2.

As for Brown's 16th team in Chapel Hill, the Tar Heels are also 3-0 (0-0 ACC). They won at Minnesota in Week 1 before taking care of business at home against Charlotte and NC Central. UNC squares off against visiting James Madison (2-0, 0-0 Sun Belt) in Kenan Stadium at noon ET Saturday (ACC Network).

Unc football to get visit from intriguing quarterback recruit, share this article.

As North Carolina gets ready for spring practices on the football field, it will be a new-look Tar Heels’ roster going into the 2024 season. Quarterback Drake Maye is among the players departing the program as he’s headed to the NFL draft and now UNC will look to continue their streak of good quarterback play dating back to Sam Howell from the 2019 season.

And while there will be a roster battle for 2024, the future of the position is very important as well.

Mack Brown and North Carolina received good news regarding one player that is considering the program as quarterback prospect Brady Hart has locked in some Spring visits. And one of those is North Carolina.

Here is what Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports wrote on Hart’s recruitment and the visits he has lined up:

Beginning this coming week he’ll be at UCF on March 11, Penn State on March 14, Ohio State on March 19, LSU on March 25, Miami on April 6, North Carolina on April 9 and Florida State on April 16. “Excited to see these campuses!” Hart added. “And narrow my list of schools down!”

Hart is a Florida native and one of the best prospects out of the state as a 2026 recruit.

The 6-foot-4, 185-pound Hart has 15 offers so far in his recruitment including one from North Carolina. There’s a long way to go until Hart makes a decision in his recruitment but it’s a good sign that UNC is involved this early.
