Transfer to the stunningly rocky island of Dugi Otok after leaving Zadar in the morning. Pick up your sea kayak at the starting site, then accompany your guide to the island's breathtaking cliffs, bays, and sea caves. Go snorkeling close to a shipwreck after lunch (at your expense), and then unwind on the gorgeous Sakarun Beach.

You'll get a chance to enjoy  Dugi Otok's natural splendor on a full-day kayaking tour as you explore the island's mountainous terrain west of Zadar.

Once you get to Brbinj at Dugi otok, a vehicle will take you to the bay so that you may start your kayaking journey. While on the excursion, you'll see various marine caves, hidden bays, and towering cliffs.

Later, you'll be transported to the island's north. We pause for lunch here (guests can bring their own food or they can eat in the restaurant, at the Veli Rat lighthouse camp).

After the lunch break, you'll paddle your kayak to Dugi otok's famous sunken ship ''Michele"  where you may go snorkeling and enjoy the diversity of marine life

The tour's last stop is Sakarun's white sand beach, where you can unwind, swim, and play the popular game of picigin—a wonderful pleasure for everyone.

ABOUT DESTINATION: Dugi otok belongs to Zadar archipelago of northern islands. The island has many natural beauties, especially the Telašćica Nature Park in the southern part of the island and Sakarun Bay in the north.

Veli žal is a pebble and partly rocky beach on Dugi otok with amazing transparent water and turquoise color. The beach offers a view of the nearby island of Mežanj.

TOUR PLAN: START: 10:00 Duration: 8 hours

Half day kayak tour on Dugi otok begins with boarding on the ferry in the port of Gaženica, in Zadar. The boat ride to the island takes 1,5 hours. During a pleasant ride you will have the opportunity to discover the beauty of Zadar archipelago and numerous islets. Upon arrival, your guide will be waiting for you at the port called Brbinj. You will ride with him in a van for another 15 minutes and then you will arrive at the first stop, the beach named Veli žal. At the beach you will have free time to swim, explore the surroundings with kayak or to explore the island accompanied by a guide. After that you will go to a second stop, where the real adventure begins. Try kayaking, jumping off the cliffs, swimming and diving in a beautiful hidden cave that changes colors depending on the angle of sunlight. This tour ends when you return to ferry port in Zadar.

Notice: in order for the trip to take place, a minimum of 4 people is needed Depending on the ferry time schedule, on some days of the week the tour duration is 1:15 hours longer than usual and you will visit one location extra. For a longer tour, the price is 90.00 EUR per person.

Description

When booking, you'll have two options to choose from. Both include transportation by minibus, kayak equipment and an English-speaking guide. Each of the options are detailed below:

Half-Day Kayak Tour

At 10 am, you'll take a ferry from the port of Gazenica to Dugi Otok. During the trip, which takes about an hour and a half , you'll admire the beautiful landscapes of the archipelago.

Upon arriving in Dugi Otok , we'll meet at the port of Brbinj and take a minibus to our first stop, the white sandy beach of Veli Žal . There you can take a swim, explore the area by kayak and take a guided tour of Mezanj Island .

Two hours later, we'll get back on the bus and make our way to the highlight of the tour. Taking the kayaks , we'll paddle to an area where you can  jump from the cliffs and enjoy a refreshing swim . You can even go swimming in an amazing cave that changes color depending on the sunlight!

After marveling at the beauty of the island, we'll return to the port of Gazenica, arriving at 6:50 pm.

Full-Day Kayak Tour

For an even more complete experience, you can book a full-day tour. As in the previous tour, you'll take a  ferry from the port of Gazenica   to Dugi Otok , arriving an hour and a half later.

Upon arrival, we'll transfer to the bay and start our kayaking adventure. During the tour, we'll discover secret caves and jump from high cliffs as we explore the island landscapes - the perfect rush of adrenaline! Then, we'll head to the north of the island , where you'll have free time to grab a bite to eat.

After lunch, we'll kayak to a sunken ship for a fun snorkeling experience. Then, we'll continue paddling until we reach the white sandy beach of Sakarun , where we'll take a break to swim and relax in the sun. 

After 11.5 hours of exploring this island paradise, we'll return to the port of Zadar.

The tour starts with the boarding in Gaženica port. The one-way ferry ride lasts for 1,5 hours. During the ferry ride you'll have the opportunity to discover a beauty of magical Zadar archipelago on the sunny deck.

Our guide will welcome you in Brbinj, Dugi Otok, in front of the ferry. After the 15-minutes ride, we'll arrive to the white sandy beach Veli Žal. On the first part of our adventure you'll be able to choose what you want to do.. enjoy the beach and swimming, researching the surroundings in kayak by yourself or join the guide on the ride around the island Mezanj.

Two hours later, our van will transfer you to another bay from which the real adventure starts! Kayak tour Dugi otok We wish to share our special day spent kayaking in one of the best island of Croatia.

Kayak tour Dugi otok We prepare the picnic in our apartment with tomatoes, some pieces of pecorino cheese, tuna fish, bread and to make it more tasty we also put mayonnaise in our bag. We smear ourselves with sunscreen, put on our sunglasses, the cap on our head and we are ready. The kayak is wide, comfortable and spacious. On the bow and stern there is room to put our bag, slippers and even the mobile phone. We start from the last pier in the village of Verunic (looking at the picture, it is the highest on the right). In front of us lays the Pantera Bay, the northernmost part of the island Dugi otok, which is like a big swimming pool. We immediately decide to cross the channel; in a few minutes we reach the village of Veli rat.

Kayak tour Dugi otok We decide to stop as planned for a coffee break. We lay the kayak on the beach (picture: at the bottom left). The bar is a few meters away. After having enjoyed the coffee and drunk two cold apricot juices we continue paddeling. We cross the channel again and skirt the pine forest (picture : at the top right). The scent of the pine trees is intense and good. The sea is transparent : we see the sandy seabed and some holoturies on the bottom. The morning air begins to warm up. It would be nice to stop for a bath and rest in the pine forest, but we decide to postpone that for another day, when we will have our playing cards and books with us. Today has to be a day of sports. The sea is calm and there are no currents. Some boats leave the Marina of Veli rat and pass by, some crews saying hello. The sense of peace and freedom is pure. We continue to paddle along the coast and reach the tip of the island on which is installed a small red lighthouse, which together with the green one positioned close by, indicates the captains the route to follow to enter the Panther Bay without ending stranded up in shallow waters. At the red lighthouse we make a stop mooring the kayak at the pier. The sea is turquoise and the temperature is pleasant: swimming is regenerating! We go back on the kayak and paddle along the coast which is always to our right. We arrive in the bay of Lokva. There are small piers and two houses. The sea is enchanting: we feel we are in a parallel world. We take a ride around the small island in front of us. The inhabitants told us, that until the nineties, local people used to keep sheeps on this islet: the animalsused to eat the grasses and the sea served as a natural enclosure. But on summer days the animals had no shelter from the sun! With these thoughts in mind we continue our journey until we reach the bay of Lucica, literally translated it is equivalent to a small port. In fact, this bay offers shelter from the winds and the inhabitants of Verunic used also to keep their boats in this place.

The Mandarino campsite is located on one side of the bay (on the right in the pic). We decide to reach the first pier we meet (on the left). We leave the kayak and put on fins, mask and snorkel. Not far from the pier, in 3-4 meters of water lie two wrecks.

The one towards the center of the bay is much better preserved and more interesting to see. Snorkeling in Dugi otok is a real pleasure! In this cove the sea is absolutely quiet and many fish are at home on the sunken ship. It is a wooden boat that due to the thick fog has finished its run in this bay on a sandy bottom. On the other boat we have very little information except that the accident seems to date back to the years of the Second World War. At this point we were very hungry! We take the kayak and moor it at the pier in front. We stretch out our towels and finally we eat! We taste every bite and then we lie down in the shade of a pine tree. We spend a few hours chatting and laughing: a full belly has put us in a very good mood! It’s 5:00 p.m. when we decide to get back on our way. We get on board and paddle in silence. The peace is pleasant: you can only hear the rhythmic sound of our paddles. At the height of the green lighthouse we look in vain for the turtle that some people told us they had seen a few days before: the tanimal was eating the mussels attached to the lighthouse. Very pity: it would have been wonderful we could have seen it! We are back to our apartment in Verunic: tired, but very happy! We spent a wonderful day kayaking and snooping around the bays of Dugi otok. Kayak tour Dugi otok is absolutely to recommend!
