The rail projects will provide impetus to socioeconomic development by facilitating the movement of passengers as well as freight traffic in the region.

Chhattisgarh East Rail Project Phase-I is being developed under the ambitious PM GatiShakti - National Master Plan for multi-modal connectivity and consists of a 124.8 km rail line from Kharsia to Dharamjaygarh including a spur line to Gare-Pelma and 3 feeder lines connecting Chhal, Baroud, Durgapur and other coal mines. The rail line, built at a cost of around Rs. 3,055 crore is equipped with electrified broad gauge level crossings and free part double line with passenger amenities. It will provide rail connectivity for coal transportation from Mand-Raigarh coalfields located in Raigarh, Chhattisgarh.

The third rail line between Pendra Road to Anuppur is 50 km long and is built at a cost of about Rs 516 crore. The 98-kilometer-long third line between Champa and Jamga rail section is built at a cost of about 796 crores. The new rail lines will improve connectivity in the region and lead to an increase in both tourism and employment opportunities.

The 65-km-long electrified MGR (Merry-Go-Round) System will deliver low-cost, high-grade coal from NTPC’s Talaipalli coal mine to 1600 MW NTPC Lara Super Thermal Power Station in Chhattisgarh. This will boost the generation of low-cost and reliable power from NTPC Lara, thus strengthening the energy security of the country. The MGR system, built at a cost of more than Rs 2070 crore, is a technological marvel for improving coal transportation from coal mines to power stations.

During the programme, the Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone of 50 bedded ‘critical care blocks’ in 9 districts of Chattisgarh. The nine Critical Care Blocks will be built under Pradhan Mantri – Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM) at Durg, Kondagaon, Rajnandgaon, Gariaband, Jashpur, Surajpur, Surguja, Bastar & Raigarh Districts, at a total cost of more than Rs 210 crores.

With an aim to address the health issues caused by sickle cell disease, especially among the tribal population, the Prime Minister distributed one lakh sickle cell counseling cards to the screened population. The distribution of sickle cell counseling cards is being done under the National Sickle Cell Anaemia Elimination Mission (NSAEM), which was launched by the Prime Minister in July 2023 at Shahdol, Madhya Pradesh.

PM to inaugurate rail projects worth Rs 6,350 crore, address rally during Chhattisgarh visit

Follow Us :

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a public rally in Raigarh district of poll-bound Chhattisgarh on Thursday and also dedicate rail sector projects worth around Rs 6,350 crore during his visit to the Congress-ruled state.

The PM's visit comes two days after the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rolled out its 'Paivartan Yatra' (March of Change) with an aim to oust the ruling Congress from power in the year-end assembly polls.

This will be Modi's second visit to Chhattisgarh, where the BJP lost power in 2018 after ruling the state for 15 consecutive years, in the last two-and-a-half months.

The prime minister's programme will be held at Kodatarai village at around 3 pm, an official here said.

The PM will dedicate important rail sector projects worth around Rs 6,350 crore on the occasion and lay the foundation stone of 50-bed each 'critical care blocks' to be built in nine districts of Chhattisgarh under a healthcare initiative of the Centre.

The nine critical care blocks will be built under the Pradhan Mantri-Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM) at Durg, Kondagaon, Rajnandgaon, Gariaband, Jashpur, Surajpur, Surguja, Bastar and Raigarh districts at a cost of more than Rs 210 crore, he said.

Modi will also distribute one lakh sickle cell counselling cards to the screened population under the National Sickle Cell Anaemia Elimination Mission (NSAEM), said the official.

The PM will subsequently address a rally at the same venue (Kodatarai village) from a different stage.

A Chhattisgarh BJP leader in state capital Raipur said the PM's visit and address at the rally will boost the morale of party workers ahead of the crucial polls.

“The BJP has already pushed the Congress on the backfoot by declaring candidates on 21 assembly seats. The first Parivartan Yatra of the BJP rolled out from Dantewada on Tuesday, while the second one will be kicked off on September 15 from Jashpur in north Chhattisgarh. Ahead of the second Parivartan Yatra, the PM's rally in adjoining Raigarh district will energize party workers and boost their morale,” he said.

Modi is expected to attend the concluding function of the two parivartan yatras in Bilaspur, added the BJP leader.

The BJP's star campaigner had addressed a public meeting in Raipur on July 7, where he had given the slogan of 'Badalbo badalbo ye daari Congress ke sarkar le badalbo' (will change Congress government this time).

According to police, the venue of the PM's programme has been fortified with a massive security cover.

A multi-layered security arrangement, involving personnel of the state police besides contingents of the Special Protection Group (SPG), has been made in the area, located around 8 km from Raigarh town, an official said.

modi visit raigarh

Raipur: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is coming on a day’s visit to Chhattisgarh on September 14.

He is scheduled to address a public rally at Kodatarai in Raigarh district after staging a road show, a BJP leader said on Sunday.

State BJP president Arun Sao and other senior state party leaders visited the Kodatarai ground, the venue of the public meeting, recently to take stock of preparations by the party to make the event successful, the BJP leader, unwilling to be quoted, said.

According to him, Mr Modi is scheduled to arrive at the local airstrip in Kodatarai at around one pm on September 14.

He is scheduled to stage a road show in Kondatarai before addressing the public rally in Kodatarai ground on the day.

This would be his second visit to Chhattisgarh in the last two months.

He had visited Raipur on July seven where he unveiled various developmental projects worth Rs 7,600 crore.

He had also addressed a meeting of BJP workers at the sprawling Science College ground in Raipur on the day.

Assembly polls are due in Chhattisgarh in November this year.

BJP is going to launch two ‘Parivartan Yatras’, a mega mass outreach campaign, in Chhattisgarh on September 12 and September 16.

Union home minister Amit Shah is scheduled to flag off the first yatra at Dantewada under Bastar in the state on September 12, while BJP national president J P Nadda is scheduled to launch the second yatra at Jashpur in the state on September 16.

PM To Inaugurate Rail Projects Worth Rs 6,350 Crore, Address Rally During Chhattisgarh Visit

The PM's visit comes two days after the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rolled out its 'Paivartan Yatra' (March of Change) with an aim to oust the ruling Congress from power in the year-end assembly polls.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a public rally in Raigarh district of poll-bound Chhattisgarh on Thursday and also dedicate rail sector projects worth around Rs 6,350 crore during his visit to the Congress-ruled state.

The BJP's star campaigner had addressed a public meeting in Raipur on July 7, where he had given the slogan of "Badalbo badalbo ye daari Congress ke sarkar le badalbo" (will change Congress government this time).

According to police, the venue of the PM's programme has been fortified with a massive security cover.

A multi-layered security arrangement, involving personnel of the state police besides contingents of the Special Protection Group (SPG), has been made in the area, located around 8 km from Raigarh town, an official said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday dedicated to the nation South Eastern Coalfields Limited's (SECL) East Rail Corridor Phase-1, built at a cost of approximately Rs 3,055 crore, at Raigarh, Chhattisgarh, said SECL Bilaspur in an official statement.

This 124 km long line between Kharsia and Dharamjaygarh will help in transporting coal and other raw materials to various end-use projects including power generation projects from coal mines of SECL and other coal mines of Mand-Raigad Coalfield spread in Raigarh district, added the statement from PRO.

The annual capacity of the project is 62 million tonnes per year. In future, with the development of passenger transport facilities, people of this tribal-dominated area will also be able to connect with the mainstream of the country.

While addressing Prime Minister said that Chhattisgarh is like a powerhouse of the country's development for us. And the country will move forward with full energy only when its powerhouses work with their full strength.

Referring to SECL's environmental conservation efforts, PM said, "We have to meet the energy needs of the country and also take care of our environment. Keeping this in mind, the closed coal mine in Surajpur district has been developed as Eco-Tourism."

"Work is being done to develop a similar eco-park in Korba area also. Today, irrigation and drinking water facilities are being provided to thousands of people with the water released from the mines. All these efforts will directly benefit the people of the tribal community of this area," PM added.

In the program, Minister of State for Tribal Affairs, Renuka Singh Saruta highlighting the various public welfare efforts of the Ministry of Coal and Tribal Affairs, said "The Coal Ministry is also working on alternative uses of coal, under which coal gasification is being done. All coal companies are instructed to develop maximum opportunities for education, health, rural development, drinking water and employment in coal production areas under CSR."

Deputy Chief Minister Chhattisgarh T.S. Singh Deo welcoming the Prime Minister, said that I am fortunate to have got the opportunity to welcome PM Modi on the soil of Chhattisgarh. The inauguration being done by the Prime Minister will definitely give impetus to the development of Chhattisgarh state. Various development works are being done through the centre, in future also we will continue to work together in the fields of education, health etc.

Chhattisgarh East Rail Corridor Phase-1 project is implemented by Chhattisgarh East Railway Limited (CERL). CERL is a special purpose vehicle (SPV) jointly formed by SECL, IRCON and CSIDCL, in which these companies hold 64 per cent, 26 per cent and 10 per cent stake respectively.

India’s modi hosts uae crown prince, inks 5 energy, nuclear agreements, the agreements were signed during abu dhabi crown prince sheikh khaled bin mohamed bin zayed al nahyan’s visit to new delhi..

The United Arab Emirates and India signed a series of agreements in various fields Monday, including in nuclear and other energy sectors, in a sign of further cooperation between the two countries.

A total of five agreements and memoranda of understanding were inked during Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s official visit to New Delhi, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs announced in a statement.

An MoU signed between the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation and the Nuclear Power Corporation of India includes a framework to exchange expertise in nuclear energy development, the official Emirati news agency WAM reported.

The nuclear MoU also provides a framework for the operation and maintenance of the Barakah nuclear power plant , the UAE’s first, according to the Indian Ministry of External Affairs.

The plant’s construction in Barakah, in Abu Dhabi's Al Dhafra region, began in 2009. Last Thursday, the UAE announced that its fourth and final reactor began commercial operations, with an expected production of 40 terawatt-hours of electricity annually.

Another agreement for long-term liquefied natural gas supplies was signed between Abu Dhabi National Oil Company and Indian Oil Corporation Limited, a government-owned oil and gas company. Under the deal, ADNOC will supply the IOC from its lower-carbon Ruwais LNG project with 1 million metric tons a year for 15 years.

ADNOC also signed a framework agreement with Indian Strategic Petroleum Reserve Limited to expand an existing oil storage agreement — under which ADNOC exports oil to be stored in underground strategic storages in the Indian port city of Mangalore — and support India's energy security, according to WAM.

A production concession agreement for Abu Dhabi onshore Block One — a 6,162-square-kilometer block around Ruwais — was also signed between Urja Bharat and ADNOC. The agreement allows Urja Bharat to bring crude oil to India.

A fifth MoU was concluded between ADQ, an Abu Dhabi-based investment and holding company, and the state of Gujarat for the development of a major food and agriculture park that includes state-of-the-art technologies in India.

UAE, India relations

He met with India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi for talks on bilateral relations and ways to boost cooperation in various fields, according to WAM.

“The two leaders discussed the multifaceted Indian-Emirati relations and avenues to broaden the comprehensive strategic partnership to new and emerging areas,” Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal wrote on X on Monday.

The UAE and India have been advancing their relations in various fields in the past years, including in trade, energy and other sectors.

Monday’s agreements were signed as part of the the UAE-India Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, which both countries signed in February 2022 with of reaching a non-oil trade target of $100 billion by 2030.

In February, Modi paid a visit to Abu Dhabi, during which eight bilateral agreements were signed. Modi’s visit was preceded by UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s trip to India in January.

‘I don’t hate Modi… idea of 56-inch chest is history now’: Rahul Gandhi on US visit

"i can tell you that the idea of pm modi, 56-inch chest, direct connection with god. that's all gone. it's history now," rahul gandhi said.

Rahul Gandhi

From “not hating Modi” to taking on the challenge of fighting the Lok Sabha elections, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi Tuesday spoke about a range of issues as he interacted with students and the Indian diaspora during his visit to the United States.

Speaking at the Georgetown University in Washington, DC , Gandhi remarked that he does not harbour hatred for Prime Minister Narendra Modi but simply disagrees with his viewpoint.

modi visit raigarh

“You will be surprised, but I don’t actually hate Mr. Modi…he has got a point of view, fine, I don’t agree with his point of view but I don’t hate him,” he said.

“He (Modi) has a different point of view, I have a different point of view. I have empathy and compassion for what he is doing,” he added.

This is Rahul Gandhi ’s first visit to the US as the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha. Gandhi asserted that the Congress’s message is to spread love, not hatred.

On BJP , RSS

Festive offer

Criticising the BJP and RSS, Gandhi suggested they misunderstand India as a collection of separate entities.

“India at heart, is a union of languages, traditions, histories, religion, everything…When you have lunch here, you get first course, second course…we don’t get that, we get a thali, and everything placed in it…it’s a jumble and every food has the same value…so this idea of mixing and merging is in India,” he said.

“The misunderstanding that BJP and RSS have is they think that India is a whole bunch of separate things. So we don’t need to redefine anything, it’s already there,” he added.

“As per the BJP, you cannot have two identities. You cannot be an Indian, and at the same time an American. That is what the fight is about… We are saying that don’t spread hatred, spread love. Don’t be arrogant, be humble. Don’t disrespect people, communities, religions, traditions, languages…”

Taking a jibe at Modi’s remark about speaking to God, Gandhi said, “We knew. When he said that I speak directly to God, we knew that we had actually blown him apart. And that the psychology had gone. So people think that, well, this was the prime minister sort of saying that, look, ‘I’m special, I’m unique, and I talk to God’. But that’s not how we saw it. Internally, we saw it as a psychological collapse, what happened here? How is this thing not working?”

Addressing an audience of Indian Americans in Virginia on Monday, Gandhi accused the RSS of viewing some religions, languages, and communities as inferior to others.

“What the RSS is basically saying is that certain states are inferior to other states. Certain languages are inferior to other languages. Certain religions are inferior to other religions. Certain communities are inferior to other communities. This is what the fight is about,” he said.

Speaking to a Sikh attendee in the crowd, he said, “The fight is about whether a Sikh is going to be allowed to wear his turban in India or a kada in India. Or he, as a Sikh, is going to be able to go to Gurdwara. That’s what the fight is about . And not just for him, for all religions.”

Gandhi continued his criticism of the BJP, claiming that the “fear of Prime Minister Narendra Modi” among people dissipated after the Lok Sabha election results were announced.

“Something has changed after the elections. PM Modi tried to create an environment of fear. Various agencies, media, income tax department tried to spread fear, even among small and medium-sized businesses. But, nothing worked. The fear vanished in one second. The spread of fear took years and consumed a lot of money, but it vanished. You can see it in Parliament right upfront… And I can tell you that the idea of PM Modi, 56-inch chest, direct connection with God. That’s all gone. It’s history now. He, his partners in government and India, the three or four senior ministers in his government realise it,” he said.

On Lok Sabha elections

Gandhi also alleged that the recent Lok Sabha elections were unfairly conducted, with the BJP benefiting due to a “huge financial advantage.”

“I don’t see it as a free election. I see it as a heavily controlled election. I don’t believe that in a fair election, the BJP would come anywhere near 240 seats. I would be surprised,” he said.

“The Election Commission was doing what they wanted. The entire campaign was structured so that Mr. Modi could carry out his agenda across the country, with different designs for different states,” Gandhi claimed.

He further accused the PM of struggling to come to terms with the fact that the Congress fought the elections with its bank accounts frozen.

“The Congress party fought the elections with their bank accounts frozen and has basically destroyed the idea of Modi. You can see it because when you see the prime minister now in Parliament…he is psychologically trapped, and he basically cannot come to terms, he cannot understand how this has happened,” he said.

Indian PM Modi visits Ukraine to open new foreign policy horizons

Indian PM Modi visits Ukraine to open new foreign policy horizons

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid an historic visit to Kyiv in late August, becoming the first Indian leader to travel to the country since Ukraine regained independence in 1991. Modi’s arrival in the Ukrainian capital was billed as part of ongoing international efforts to secure a peaceful resolution to the war between Ukraine and Russia. Many also saw his trip as further evidence of Delhi’s diplomatic balancing act, as India seeks to counter negative perceptions of its close economic and defense ties with Moscow while underlining its status as an emerging geopolitical power in its own right.

Prior to Modi’s visit, some analysts suggested he was heading to Kyiv with damage limitation in mind following a backlash over his July trip to Moscow and embrace of Russian President Vladimir Putin at a time when Russian missiles were raining down on targets in Kyiv, including the country’s largest children’s hospital. Modi’s high-profile hug with Putin brought a sharp rebuke from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that initially threatened to spark a diplomatic rift between Delhi and Kyiv. However, the two leaders appear to have opted for a more constructive response.

Speaking alongside Zelenskyy in Kyiv, Modi’s peace rhetoric was largely unchanged from the message he had delivered weeks earlier in Moscow. He stressed that only dialog and diplomacy could end the fighting, while also voicing his support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Significantly, Modi arrived in Ukraine amid the country’s surprise cross-border offensive into Kursk Oblast. While the Ukrainian invasion of Russia was not on the official agenda, Modi’s presence did suggest recognition that the operation falls within Ukraine’s right to self-defense.

India is currently seeking to plot a geopolitical course that protects the country’s trade and energy interests, while reducing its reliance on Russia in the defense sector and increasing engagement with Ukraine and other countries in the region including Poland, which Modi visited on the eve of his arrival in Kyiv. Underscoring the importance of his Ukraine trip, the Indian Prime Minister was accompanied by a high-level delegation including Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.

Although the landmark visit did not yield any major breakthroughs, Modi and Zelenskyy did reach a number of agreements that should allow the two countries to expand cooperation in the agrarian, healthcare, cultural, and humanitarian sectors. The terms of the humanitarian agreement signed in Kyiv could help pave the way for an Indian role in Ukraine’s reconstruction. The joint statement issued by both leaders following their summit also mentioned significant potential for deepening partnership in the defense sector, with India believed to be interested in Ukraine’s rapidly evolving drone technologies.

Ukraine’s advance in Kursk: What’s next and implications

India’s openness to greater engagement is an indication that attitudes toward Ukraine are evolving, with Delhi keen to counter perceptions that the country views Ukrainian affairs predominantly through a Russian lens. Today’s diplomatic language is certainly more nuanced than the position adopted at the onset of Russia’s attack on Ukraine a decade ago. In 2014, Indian officials initially responded to the seizure of Crimea by stating that Russia had “ legitimate interests ” in Ukraine. Such messaging is no longer seen as helpful in Delhi. As an aspiring economic superpower, India now seeks to project the image of a leading global player and cannot afford to be seen as too close to the Kremlin.

Another factor driving the strengthening of bilateral ties is people to people contacts. Zelenskyy stressed this point when he met with Indian journalists during Modi’s visit, expressing his own interest in getting to know more about India. Ukraine’s large community of Indian students and the country’s Indian diaspora are already playing an active role here, sharing personal stories of life in Ukraine that often run directly counter to Russian propaganda. The positive experiences of Indians in Ukraine contrast sharply with the fate of numerous Indian citizens who have been lured to Russia since 2022 to fight in Ukraine. Zelenskyy noted that Modi had specifically raised this issue during their talks in Kyiv.

Much homework still needs to be done by India and Ukraine in order to take bilateral cooperation to the next level. Delhi must also address the elephant in the room, namely how it can continue benefiting from cheap Russian energy supplies without enabling Putin’s war economy. At the same time, it is worth stressing that the visit of an Indian Prime Minister to Ukraine is a significant diplomatic event for both countries that few would have anticipated as recently as one year ago. As India seeks to consolidate its position on the world stage, the dynamic of relations with Ukraine is now on a positive trajectory and is beginning to look promising.

“Something has changed after the elections. Some people said ‘Darr nahi lagta ab, dar nikal gaya ab' (We are not afraid anymore, the fear is gone now). It is interesting to me that the BJP and PM Modi spread so much fear, and the pressure of agencies on small businesses, everything vanished within seconds. It took years for them to spread this fear and vanished within seconds," news agency ANI quoted Rahul Gandhi as saying at the event.

“In Parliament, I see the Prime Minister right up front and I can tell you that the idea of Mr Modi, 56-inch chest, direct connection with God, that’s all gone now, it’s is all history now,” Rahul Gandhi added .

The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha also met with students at Georgetown University, followed by the diaspora event in Virginia. Rahul Gandhi will be in Washington for two days before heading back to Delhi.,

"The BJP doesn't understand that this country is of everyone... India is a union. In the Constitution, it is written clearly... India that is Bharat is a union state, histories, tradition music and dance. They (BJP) say it is not a union, it is different," the Congress leader alleged.

Rahul gandhi black spot in indian democracy: bjp.

While the BJP has not officially reacted to Rahul Gandhi's latest assault on Modi, the party had launched a scathing attack on the Congress leader on Monday over his remarks in the United States's Texas, calling him a “black spot” in Indian democracy.

Gaurav Bhatia, a national spokesperson of the BJP also accused Gandhi of trying to weaken Indian democracy with his remarks abroad, which he claimed was in accordance with a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the Congress and the Chinese Communist Party during the UPA rule.

"Everyone knows that Rahul Gandhi is an immature and part-time leader. But people have put a huge responsibility on his shoulders since he became the leader of opposition (in the Lok Sabha).

"But I feel sad to say that Rahul Gandhi is a black spot in Indian democracy. He does not even know what to talk about when he visits a foreign country," Bhatia told a press conference at the BJP headquarters here.

He was replying to reporters' queries on Gandhi's remarks against the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) at an event in the US.

During an interaction at an event, Gandhi alleged, “The BJP and the RSS believe that women should be restricted to a particular role. They should stay at home, they should cook the food, they should not talk too much and we believe that women should aspire to whatever they want to do.”

"The RSS believes that India is one idea. We believe that India is a multiplicity of ideas," he claimed during his address to the Indian American community.

Rahul Gandhi in US

'US a very powerful democracy': Congress leader Rahul Gandhi

I wouldn’t call it a ‘transformation’, but a journey. I think the politics in India changed very dramatically in 2014. We entered a phase of politics that we hadn’t seen in India before. It’s a tough fight, and it’s been a good fight. Personally of course, it has changed me. If before 2014, you’d have come and said to me that you have to walk from Kanniyakumari to Kashmir, I would have just laughed at you and I would’ve said that it’s ridiculous but that was the only way left for opposition in our country.

Rahul Gandhi meets US lawmakers and Biden administration officials in Washington DC

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who has interacted with Indian diaspora besides students and faculty at universities during his visit to the United States, also met US lawmakers. The meeting, which took place at Rayburn House Office Building, here, was hosted by Congressman Bradley James Sherman and those present included US Congress members Jonathan Jackson, Ro Khanna, Raja Krishnamoorthi, Barbara Lee, Shri Thanedar, Jesus G. "Chuy" Garcia, Ilhan Omar, Hank Johnson and Jan Schakowsky. Sources familiar with the meetings told ANI that Rahul Gandhi also met US diplomat Donald Lu and lawmaker Pramila Jayapal. They said that Rahul Gandhi met Donald Lu, Assistant Secretary of State, Bureau of South and Central Asia, US Department of State, in Washington DC on September 9. He met Pramila Jayaram, an Indian-American Congress woman, as part of his engagements and later interacted with officials of US House Foreign Affairs Committee. Rahul Gandhi's meeting with Donald Lu came ahead of the American diplomat's visit to India and Bangladesh.

Rahul Gandhi's slip-up during address to Indian-Americans goes viral

The student, addressing Rahul, probed the vision and practicality of the INDIA alliance, especially with the 2024 Lok Sabha elections approaching. The question highlighted a key concern about the coalition's effectiveness: "You lead the INDIA Alliance, which many view as an alternative to the BJP-led NDA government. However, as the 2024 Lok Sabha elections approach, your party has struggled to reach an agreement on seat-sharing with Mamata Banerjee's TMC and includes partners like the Hindutva-based Shiv Sena. Given these divisions, how would you manage a government if elected, when the coalition appears united only in its goal to remove Prime Minister Modi?"

'Congress aafat laati hai, hum rahat laate hain', says Anurag Thakur on Rahul Gandhi's Sikh statement

"This statement proves the condition of J&K during Congress rule. Terrorism, separatism and stone pelters were in full swing...If the then Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde was scared to go to Lal Chowk you can what condition it was in. Today, anyone can go to Lal Chowk. There is peace and development has been happening there. This is the difference- 'Congress aafat laati hai, hum rahat laate hain'," he said.

Nehru family never fulfilled the promises made to the Sikhs, says National Commission for Minorities chairperson Iqbal Singh Lalpura on Rahul's speech

"These comments reflect his mentality and thinking. Nehru family never fulfilled the promises made to the Sikhs...Even after 40 years of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, the National Commission for Minorities is trying to provide justice to the victims...PM Modi has taken many decisions for the welfare of Sikhs...BJP always promotes Sikhs...Sikhs are safe in the nation...The inheritance in India is from the father so Rahul Gandhi is also a minority as his grandfather Feroze Gandhi was a Parsi, a minority community...All religions are one. We should not make these kinds of statements," he said.

'Rahul Gandhi has no patriotism', says Lalan Singh on Congress leaders' speech in US

"Rahul Gandhi has no patriotism, he goes abroad and criticizes the central government... He is still learning and lacks maturity. He is dreaming of leading the country which will never be fulfilled," he said.

'In 1984, a program was carried out ... ': BJP's sharp retort to Rahul Gandhi's remark on 'Sikhs'

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday strongly criticized Rahul Gandhi's comments about Sikhs during his visit to the United States, and accused the Congress leader of promoting a dangerous narrative while abroad. Addressing a press conference, Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that the Modi government has gone out of its way to safeguard the community's interest. "Out of the blue, he says that the Sikh community in Bharat has a certain anxiety that they cannot tie a turban. I have been wearing a turban for 60 years. This government has gone out of its way to safeguard the interests of Sikhs, and I don't think that is the case. I don't believe Sikhs have felt safer and more honored than at any time in our history after 1947. If there has been a time in our history when we have felt anxiety, a sense of insecurity, and even an existential threat, it has been when Rahul Gandhi’s family has been in positions of power," Puri said.

'Beware of their theatrics; they will never conduct caste-based census': BSP supremo Mayawati

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati lashed out at the Congress on Tuesday, alleging that the party is just creating drama over the implementation of caste-based census and accusing the party is trying to regain power under the guise of these issues. "Despite being in power for a long time at the Centre, the Congress party did not implement OBC reservations nor did it conduct a caste-based census. Now this party is dreaming of regaining power under the guise of these issues. Beware of their theatrics, as they will never conduct a caste-based census," she said in a social media post in X. Mayawati further cautioned the people over the theatrics of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and said that the Congress has been plotting to end reservations in the country for years following his statement to scrap reservations in India when it becomes a "fair place" during his interactions with students and faculty at Georgetown University in Washington, DC, on Monday (local time). "Be cautious of Congress party leader Rahul Gandhi's theatrics, in which he claimed abroad that if India were to improve, we would end reservations for SC, ST, and OBCs. This clearly indicates that the Congress has been plotting to end these reservations for years," she said.

'Tarnishing country's image abroad is crime like treason...': Union minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Rahul Gandhi's statements in Washington DC

Union minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has taken a potshot at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his statements in Washington DC saying that tarnishing the country's image abroad is a crime like treason and no patriot can do this. "Rahul Gandhi is the Leader of Opposition (LoP) and he is also accountable for the country. Going out of the country and tarnishing the country's image is a crime like treason, no patriot can do this. But Rahul ji seems to have become frustrated with the Congress after losing for the third time in a row and is venting his frustration out in America by spoiling the country's image," Chouhan told ANI on Tuesday.

'The caste census is now an unstoppable idea,' says Rahul Gandhi

"The critical question of whether 90% of our population is meaningfully represented in India’s institutional structure - economy, government, education - demands an answer. At its core, this is an issue of fairness and justice," Gandhi said. "Anything less than a comprehensive caste census, along with an economic and institutional survey is unacceptable," he added.

'Rahul Gandhi should join RSS and undergo training': BJP spokesperson ANS Prasad

Bharatiya Janata Party Spokesperson ANS Prasad on Tuesday suggested that Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi should join Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and undergo training with the Sangh to gain a deeper insight into the RSS. "It's incorrect for Rahul Gandhi to comment on the RSS without a proper understanding of the organisation. In my previous statement, I suggested that he should join the RSS and undergo training to gain a deeper insight. A news article focusing on this aspect would have been more effective. If given the chance, Rahul Gandhi should consider joining the RSS to broaden his perspective," Prasad said.

'Hawa nikal gayi thi': Rahul Gandhi recalls the time when Congress' bank accounts were frozen

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday shared his experience of the party's bank accounts being sealed just months before the Lok Sabha elections. While addressing an Indian diaspora event in Virginia's Herndon in US, the Congress leader revealed that freezing bank account left his party without funds for advertising, campaigning, or even transporting their leaders. Rahul recalled discussing the situation with Mallikarjun Kharge and the treasurer, who had lost confidence in what to do next. "Unki toh, hawa likal gayi thi (lost his confidence) about what to do next. " Rahul said. Despite having fought multiple elections in the past, Rahul said that this was the first time all their bank accounts were sealed. "This is the first time in my life all the bank accounts were sealed. I said, 'dekhi jayegi, dekhte hain kya hota hai' (We'll see, let's see what happens) and that was the spirit with which we fought the election," said Rahul Gandhi. Rahul stressed that the fight in India is not just about politics but about fundamental rights. "The fight (in India) is about whether a Sikh, is going to be allowed to wear a turban in India...whether a Sikh will be allowed to wear a kada in India or will be able to go to the Gurudwara...that's what the fight is about, and it is not just for Sikh, it is for all the religion..." he said.

'We have District Collectors; we should have District Producers,' says Rahul Gandhi on increasing production in India

"We have District Collectors; we should have District Producers. We need to focus on increasing production. We are not doing that because large monopolies prefer not to produce. It’s much more convenient to sell Chinese products. You make a profit from it, you don’t have to deal with the complexities of production, labour issues, or conflicts that production entails. And you make a significant amount of money, but it’s not sustainable. You can see social tensions rising and unemployment increasing. That’s what India needs to address," Gandhi said while interacting with students in US.

'BJP nowhere near 246 in fair election...': Rahul Gandhi terms Lok Sabha polls 'controlled election'

Terming the Lok Sabha polls as a "controlled election", Congress MP and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, said that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would not have been near 240 seats in "fair election." While interacting with students and faculty at Georgetown University, Rahul Gandhi said that caste system had become a "big and fundamental question" in India. He said that the entire campaign was structured in a way that Prime Minister Narendra Modi could do his thing across the country. He stated that the Election Commission was doing as the BJP wanted. He said, "There was also the caste census issue that became big and that's a fundamental question in India you know. Share what you say in Hindi (Bhagidari) of the institutions, the structure, the power of the Indian state. So, these things suddenly started to come together and at some level I was frankly blown away by the wisdom of India."

'I don't hate PM Modi, but disagree with is point of view': Rahul Gandhi in US

After launching a tirade of attacks at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, opened up on his thoughts on his rivals and said he doesn't hate the Prime Minister but only disagrees with his point of view. The Congress leader was interacting with students and faculty at Georgetown University in Washington, DC, on Monday (local time). He also said that India essentially, is an idea of mixing and merging, while alleging that BJP and RSS have the "misunderstanding" of seeing India as a bunch of separate things. "India at heart, is a union of languages, traditions, histories, religion, everything...When you have lunch here, you get first course, second course...we don't get that, we get a thali, and everything placed in it...it's a jumble and every food has the same value...so this idea of mixing and merging is in India," Rahul Gandhi said. "When Indian people go to their religious places, they merge with their deity. This is the nature of India. The misunderstanding that BJP and RSS have is they think that India is a whole bunch of separate things. So we don't need to redefine anything, it's already there," he added.

'Thali, chawal, dal, sabji....': Rahul Gandhi launches veiled attack at RSS, says for BJP only one ideology matters

Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, took a jibe at the Bharatiya Janata Party with a veiled reference to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) stating that the ruling party doesn't understand that the country is for everyone, whereas for them whose headquarters are in Nagpur, only one ideology is important. Interacting with the Indian diaspora at an event in Herndon, Virginia, the Congress leader made a reference to the different dishes on a food plate to highlight India's diversity. The LoP reiterated that India is a "union of states," adding that it means a union of different traditions and histories. "In India, everything works together...if someone sits in front of Thali and says chawal (rice) is more important than Dal (pulses) and sabji (vegetable) is the least important, then what will happen? That's what BJP does," Rahul Gandhi said.

In my address to the Indian Diaspora, I emphasised key values essential to Indian politics: love, respect, and humility. I highlighted the importance of embracing India's rich diversity—its languages, cultures, and traditions—while upholding the principles enshrined in our Constitution. Like the U.S., India is a union of states, where all languages, religions and communities are equal. The Indian Diaspora serves as a vital bridge between our countries, and their commitment to these values strengthens the bond between our two great unions. I am passionate about unleashing India's potential and look forward to more meaningful exchanges in the coming days."

However, he also highlighted that his actual role extends beyond mere opposition and is "broader" and "simpler" in nature. "I'd like to tell you that I believe my role is injecting the values of love, respect and humility in Indian politics. I think what is missing in our political system and across parties is love, respect and humility," Gandhi stated, emphasizing the need for these virtues in the country's political landscape. Rahul Gandhi's US Visit Live Updates: 'India, West have given up on idea of production ... ' top quotes from Rahul Gandhi's address in Dallas

During his three-day visit to the United States, Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress MP, addressed critical issues such as unemployment, education, and technology. He observed that both the West and India are facing job crises and suggested that India should "boost its own production" to tackle unemployment. Gandhi pointed out that while many countries are struggling with unemployment, some nations, like China and Vietnam, are not encountering such problems. He traced the origins of this issue to historical changes in global production, stating, "The West, including the United States and Europe, once led global production in the mid-20th century." Over the decades, Gandhi noted a significant shift in production, which gradually moved from the US to South Korea, Japan, and finally to China. Currently, China holds a dominant position in global production, a change that Gandhi attributes to the Western and Indian withdrawal from manufacturing. "The West, including America and Europe, has largely abandoned the manufacturing sector, leaving it to countries like China and Vietnam," the LoP in Lok Sabha explained. He emphasized the need for India to focus on boosting its own production capabilities to address the unemployment crisis and adapt to the changing global economic landscape.

Rahul Gandhi's US Visit Live Updates: Listening is much more important than speaking...Listening is fundamental to understanding people, says Rahul Gandhi in Dallas

Lok Sabha LoP and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi said, "Listening is much more important than speaking...Listening is fundamental to understanding people...You don’t raise every issue but focus on addressing the fundamental ones. You choose your battles much more carefully...."

Rahul Gandhi's US Visit Live Updates: The West has an employment problem, says Rahul gandhi

Lok Sabha LoP and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi said, "The West has an employment problem. India has an employment problem... But many countries in the world don't have an employment problem. China certainly doesn't have an employment problem. Vietnam doesn't have an employment problem. So there are places on the planet that are not struggling with unemployment. There's a reason. If you look at the United States in the 1940s, 50s and 60s, they were the centre of global production. Anything that was made, cars, washing machines, TVs, all made in the United States. Production moved from the United States. It went to Korea, it went to Japan. Eventually, it went to China. If you look today, China is dominating global production... So what has happened? The West, America, Europe, and India have given up on the idea of production and they've handed it to China. The act of production creates jobs. What we do, what the Americans do, what the West does, is we organize consumption... India has to think about the act of production and organizing production...It's not acceptable that India simply says, okay, manufacturing, what you call manufacturing or production is going to be the preserve of the Chinese. It's going to be the preserve of the Vietnamese. It's going to be the preserve of Bangladesh...We have to reimagine how to produce in a democratic environment. Until we do that, we will face high levels of unemployment. And frankly, it's not sustainable. So you're going to see that if we carry on down this path of forgetting about manufacturing, you're going to see massive social problems coming in India and in the United States and Europe. The polarization of our politics is because of this..."

Rahul Gandhi's US Visit Live Updates: Bharat Jodo Yatra fundamentally changed the way I think about my work, says Rahul Gandhi

Lok Sabha LoP and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi said, "...Bharat Jodo Yatra fundamentally changed the way I think about my work. I would say it completely changed how I view politics, how I view our people, how I communicate with them, and how I listen to them. It wasn’t just me, many people were involved in the Yatra. For all of us, the most powerful thing that happened organically, something we didn’t even plan, was the introduction of the idea of love in politics... This is strange because if you look at political discourse in most countries, you’ll never find the word love. It simply doesn’t exist in that context. You’ll find hatred, anger, unfairness, corruption, all these words, but rarely the word 'love.' The Bharat Jodo Yatra actually introduced that idea into the Indian political system, and I’ve been amazed at how well that idea has worked..."

Rahul Gandhi's US Visit Live Updates: Devta in India actually means a person whose internal feelings are exactly ..., says Rahul Gandhi

Rahul Gandhi said, "...Devta in India actually means a person whose internal feelings are exactly the same as his external expression, meaning he is a completely transparent being, it does not mean god. If a person tells me everything he believes or thinks and expresses it openly, that’s the definition of a Devta...What’s interesting about our politics is how do you suppress your own ideas, how do you suppress your own fears, greed, or ambitions and observe other people's fears and ambitions..."

Rahul Gandhi's US Visit Live Updates: I think India has a problem with respect for skills, says Rahul Gandhi

Lok Sabha LoP and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi said, "Many people say that India has a problem with skills. I don’t think India has a problem with skills. I think India has a problem with respect for skills. India does not have respect for people who possess skills. But I don’t believe there is any shortage of skills already available in India. Our education system doesn’t connect with the business system. You have a business system operating independently, and then you have an education system that exists in an ivory tower. The education system in no way connects deeply with India’s skill structure. Bridging that gap or linking these two systems, skills and education, through vocational training is fundamental. I think currently the huge problem with the education system is the ideological capture, where ideology is being fed through it..."

Rahul Gandhi's US Visit Live Updates: 'One must choose their battles carefully' says Rahul Gandhi during interaction with students at University of Texas

Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, shared his insights on effective leadership and the importance of listening during an interaction with students at the University of Texas at Dallas in the US. He emphasized the significance of carefully selecting one's battles and focusing on addressing the fundamental issues rather than raising every single concern. Gandhi highlighted the value of listening, stating, "Now I am coming to the conclusion that listening is much more important than speaking. Listening means to put myself in your position. If a farmer speaks to me, I will try to step myself in their day-to-day life and understand what they are trying to say. Listening is fundamental and then understanding the deeper dynamics. One must not raise every single issue. You focus on important issues and fight for it. One must choose their battles carefully." When discussing his daily life as an opposition leader, Gandhi explained that the opposition's core purpose is to be the voice of the people. During parliamentary sessions, there is a sequence of events, but outside of that, his focus is on identifying and effectively raising the issues that concern the citizens of India. He stressed the importance of doing so with sensitivity and after carefully listening to and understanding the perspectives of individuals, groups, industries, and farmers. Gandhi further elaborated on his approach to dealing with complex issues, stating that he tries to comprehend the nuances and intricacies before planning his day accordingly. He described the parliamentary sessions as a "war of ideas and words," where the opposition attempts to present their viewpoint while the government tries to suppress it. On non-parliamentary days, Gandhi engages with various stakeholders, including party members, businesspeople, and farmers, to listen to and understand their concerns. The Congress MP arrived in Dallas, Texas, on Sunday for a three-day visit to the United States. He was greeted at the airport by Sam Pitroda, Chairman of the Indian Overseas Congress, and members of the Indian diaspora.

Rahul Gandhi's US Visit Live Updates: Rahul Gandhi says, 'Our education system doesn’t connect with the business system'

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi says, "Many people say that India has a problem with skills.

Rahul Gandhi's US Visit Live Updates: 'IT industry in India is going to have a really big serious problem because of AI', says Rahul Gandhi in Dallas

On Artificial Intelligence (AI), Lok Sabha LoP and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi said, "Every time you get a new technology, the argument is made that it's going to take jobs away. When computers first came, it was said that it is going to take jobs away. When calculators first came, the same thing was said...What happens is it does take jobs away from some people and then transfers them to other people. I'm not of the view that jobs will vanish but different types of jobs will be created and different types of systems will benefit more or less. I think, for example, the IT industry in India is going to have a really big serious problem because of AI. But I don't think a Bajaj-making scooter is going to have such a big problem. So it's going to hit different people differently. It's going to take away some jobs, it's going to add some jobs. If you position properly, it's an opportunity and if you position it badly you're in trouble...Computers created millions of jobs in India. It's a fact. So it depends on how flexible you are and how well you're looking at the future..."

'Look forward to engaging in meaningful discussions': Rahul Gandhi receives warm welcome in US

Will Ukrainian President Zelenskyy visit India this year? Here's what his envoy said

Pm modi invited zelenskyy to india during his historic one-day trip to ukraine on august 23, following a visit to poland. the indian leader told zelenskyy that india was "never neutral" in the russia-ukraine war and was always "in favour of peace"..

PM Modi and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv

"Prime Minister Modi kindly invited my president to visit India, and I'm hopeful it will happen. Maybe by the end of this year, we will be happy to see President Zelenskyy here, as it would mark another step forward in our bilateral relationship. It would also provide a great opportunity for the two leaders to spend more time discussing the peace-building process around the world," Polishchuk told news agency ANI.

However, the dates of Zelenskyy's visit would be decided according to mutual convenience, the Ukrainian envoy added. He said Zelenskyy was "very keen to visit India" as he never had been there and would find more time for discussions as PM Modi's visit to Kyiv was relatively short due to security reasons, amid the Russia-Ukraine war.

PM Modi's visit to Poland

Prime Minister Modi was on a day-long visit to Ukraine on August 23 which followed a trip to Poland. He became the first Indian PM to visit Ukraine since its independence. He met President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv and offered to provide assistance in bringing peace to the region. He also promised that India would always stand with Ukraine for humanitarian assistance.

PM Modi noted that India did stay away from the war between Russia and Ukraine, but stressed that it was "never neutral" and was always "in favour of peace". India and Ukraine also signed four agreements on agriculture, food industry, medicine, culture and humanitarian assistance. PM Modi reiterated India's willingness to contribute in all possible ways to facilitate an early return of peace.

A joint statement issued after PM Modi's visit to Ukraine said that he and President Zelenskyy reiterated their readiness for further cooperation in upholding principles of international law, including the UN Charter, such as respect for territorial integrity and sovereignty of states. They agreed on the desirability of closer bilateral dialogue in this regard.

Zelenskyy had expressed his gratitude for PM Modi's visit to Ukraine. "I am happy that PM Modi came to visit us and I believe this is very important...This is the first visit of the Prime Minister of India to Ukraine. We are ready on our part to take the respective steps. We've heard messages from the Indian side that they would be happy to welcome our team to India," he said.

Italy PM on India's role in Ukraine conflict

On Saturday (September 7), Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said India can play a vital role in finding a solution for the Russia-Ukraine conflict as she held talks with Zelenskyy. Reaffirming Italy’s unwavering support to Ukraine, Meloni said, “Italy would never backtrack on its support for Ukraine. The decision was not just morally right but also in the national interest given it was aimed at safeguarding rules designed to protect a country's national integrity...China and India have a role to play in resolving the conflict.”

These remarks came after Russian President Vladimir Putin recently said he was in touch with India, Brazil, and China on the Ukraine conflict. "First of all, it is Chinese People's Republic, Brazil, and India -- I am in contact with my partners and I have no doubt that the leaders of these countries -- and we have relations of trust and confidence with one another -- will be really interested and provide a helping hand," he said.
