Our farm brewery and luxury bed & breakfast share 33 gorgeous acres.

Nestled in the rolling, wooded hills west of Loudoun, historic Bear Chase Manor is being joined by the newest craft brewery in the county. The newly remodeled “Brew Barn” boasts a complete 10-barrel system on one side, and a smaller 3.5-barrel system on the other. The larger system will produce the perennial favorites of local craft beer enthusiasts (such as Mr. Blonde, High Pointe Helles, and Anarchy Ale), while the smaller system is used for experimenting with new recipes, producing limited release small batch brews, and teaching people about the art and science of beer making.

Bear Chase Brewing Company recently celebrated our 45 year anniversary. We are continually adding items to our beer and food menus, new events to the calendar, and we now offer wine, cider, and our very own line of craft seltzers for those of you who wish to imbibe in something other than beer!

Interesting, Fun, and BEER FILLED!!

"Thanks for a great night. Isaac was absolutely FABULOUS - he was able to break the ice with a small group and teach us a ton about beer. As for the breweries, I loved the intimacy of Public Option. I am new to DC and look forward to exploring the beers available further."

"This was a really entertaining tour- Chad was super knowledgeable and the beer was great. Loved The Public Option stop! Folks on the tour were from varied locations (national/international) which made it even more fun- comparing notes on the beer scene in other places. Highly recommend!"

Perfect Day

"We hit four local breweries and had plenty of time at each one. I can honestly say each brewery provided PLENTY of samples - so it is definitely worth the price. Having lunch provided was great as well. Very well organized, a good mixture of structure and free time for whoever you went with! Our tour guide was so fun, very knowledgeable, and easy going and provided a ton of great recommendations. I'd love to do more!"

10 Northern Virginia Breweries That Will Knock Your Socks Off

Northern Virginia Brewery Guide

Northern Virginia is an area of the state that’s always been known for its outstanding wines and vineyards. Recently though, there’s a booming craft beer scene brewing up their own magic.

They say Virginia is for Lovers, as a born and raised Virginian, I can personally testify that that is the truth! Nowadays though, I mostly say Virginia is for Craft Beer Lovers.

That’s because just south of our Nation’s capital are counties like Alexandria, Loudoun and Fairfax that are growing breweries left and right. Loudoun alone has the most with 35 breweries, and counting!

Out in those parts, there is plenty of space to grow and expand. You’ll find most of the Northern Virginia breweries are on large plots of land, hidden away behind all the hills and down long gravel driveways.

Covid Update:

Traveling right now is uncertain. Please keep your safety (and the safety of others!) in mind at all times . If you feel comfortable with traveling, do so, but please travel responsibly and follow all regulations. Travel is at your own risk, always, and especially right now.

If you do decide to travel at this time, here are my recommendations: – Wear a face mask.  – Bring hand sanitizer and wash your hands on a regular basis. – Check official websites before your trip for the latest updates on policies, closures and status of local businesses. – Make sure to book a hotel with free cancellation in case you need to change your plans at the last minute.

Tip: How to Get Around Northern Virginia

There’s a saying I have about Northern Virginia, “It takes 30 minutes to get anywhere”. AND IT’S TRUE. Keep this in mind when you’re planning your route exploring these Virginia breweries.

There are rideshares available everywhere, but it can get expensive. If you’re really looking to explore a wide area, give a quick search for local brewery tour businesses.

My advice though is to find a hotspot, where there’s a few breweries, and maybe a winery. When you get out there, take it slow and soak up the views of some of the prettiest hills on the East Coast.

And in case you were wondering about that name… The name, Lost Rhino, comes from a surfing term: Rhino Chaser. That’s someone out to find the best waves, the biggest waves– an adventurer. The lost part simply comes from being landlocked in Ashburn, Virginia.

In case you didn’t know, Vint Hill operated as a top secret military listening post for over 50 years! The modern-day Vint Hill farm is now home to Old Bust Head and a handful of other local businesses.

Leesburg | Website

Another amazing farm brewery in Northern Virginia is Vanish Brewing. This one is loved by beer nerds far and wide! Vanish is a 63-acre family-owned, farm-brewery that offers plenty of food, outdoor/indoor space, and scenic views.

Their taproom typically features 15-20 of their own beers, all have been crafted with local ingredients. Their brewing philosophy focuses on what they call, “plant-to-pint and seed-to-sip”. Naturally, they also have their own hop farm! 53-acre farm with an extension hop yard and an average of 20 beers on tap.

The Beer Tours, Trails, and Crawls in the DMV Worth a Day Trip

No matter where you’re going for that long weekend in the DMV, we’ve rounded up the beer trails and itineraries worth building your trip around.

By Editorial July 19, 2021

There’s no better way to get to know a place than to head to the local watering hole and pick up a pint. It’s not just the ale that’s flowing when the bartender pours a frothy one; conversations and local color are bubbling up and spilling over at the same time. Otherwise busy, even brusque, locals are suddenly up for explaining their little corner of the world.

So it stands to reason, if you want to explore a neighborhood, or even a region , how better than a series of brew-based stops? No matter where you’re going for that long weekend in the DMV, we’ve rounded up the beer trails and itineraries worth building your trip around—if you want to live, learn and drink like a local.

Tastemakers Trail

You can reach one end of the lengthy Tastemakers Trail in Montgomery County, Maryland via the Red Line Metro. In Silver Spring, sample brews from Astro Lab Brewing, Denizens Brewing Co., and Silver Branch Brewing Co. Not satisfied? You can continue the trail up through Bethesda, Rockville, and even Gaithersburg if you want to turn the day trip into a long weekend.

The Beltway Beer Trail

The largest beer trail in Virginia, you can start on the Beltway Beer Trail from just about anywhere in the region: Fairfax, Alexandria, and Arlington are all stops along the way. Local faves like Caboose Brewing Company make for an easy and pleasant day out.

Washington DC Area Bar and Pub Crawl

DC Metro Food Tours offers pub crawls and bar crawls in the most popular areas of DC for tourists and locals alike, including U Street and Old Town. As you sip your your brew of choice, your guide will give you the historic tales and tidbits you’d expect from a more traditional food tour. But the option to win free drinks and shots in return for correct trivia responses makes things a little more interesting.

Reston Limousine Brew Tour

Reston Limousine provides public brewery tours throughout DC and NoVA. Featuring 37 different brewery visits, the tours include emerging breweries and more well-known venues to create an exciting experience for beer experts and greenhorns alike.

LoCo Ale Trail

Explore the beer scene in Loudoun. Whether you want to tour the breweries out west or prefer urban amenities to the east, you have 17 options. You can keep the calories to a minimum by hopping on your bike and exploring the series of breweries that await you along the trail. You can also create your own brewery tour.

The 5 Best Virginia Craft Breweries to Visit on a Brewery Tour

Northern Virginia Brewery Tours

Did you know that Virginia has a rich brewing history? Since the state was first colonized in the 17th century, beer has been brewed there, and now, with a booming craft brewery scene, the state is still holding onto this tradition.

If you’re hoping to explore some of these spots, keep reading for a list of places you should hit on your brewery tour.

1. Starr Hill Brewery

This brewery and taproom is located in the Blue Ridge Mountain foothills. Their award-winning beer is brewed in this spot daily, allowing for tons of innovative options no matter your brew preference. This is a must-stop joint for some of the best beer Virginia has to offer.

2. Hardywood Park Craft Brewery

The co-founders of this brewery are best friends that discovered their love of craft beer while visiting a sheep farm in Australia. Ten years later, they opened up Hardywood Park with the mission of making innovative beers.

This large facility is located in the heart of Richmond’s historic German district and offers an onsite taproom where you can get glasses and growlers filled with fresh brews. Their award-winning Belgium styled wheat ale, Hardywood Virginia Blackberry, is a must-try for those visiting in the summer.

3. Lost Rhino Brewing Company

This brewery is all about honoring the Loudon County region’s brewing traditions. With an onsite tasting room that also offers delicious pub food , this is a great spot for someone who wants to drink the traditional beer of the area. Try their Native Son beer, which is the first beer made with 100% local ingredients for some local flavor.

4. Legend Brewing Company

Legend Brewing Company is one of the oldest microbreweries in the area and has been serving beer since 1994. This is a great spot for someone who wants a traditional lager or ale and a great burger.

With an award-winning full-service brewpub restaurant, you can’t go wrong with this spot. Try one of their seasonal beers or their award-winning Bohenian-styled pilsner for a twist on this classic beer.

5. Lickinghole Creek Craft Brewery

This brewery is surrounded by 290 acres of rolling farmland, making it a great spot to enjoy rural central Virginia. This brewery was opened by a husband and wife that had the mission of creating innovative beers using fresh produce off their farm. All the barley and hops are grown on the property, as well as tons of herbs, spices, and fruits that are used to create unique beers.

Try their delicious Rosemary Saison that is made with rosemary fresh from the breweries farm. Check their site to try stopping at this spot during one of their many events.

northern virginia brewery tour

TripSavvy / Rachel Cooper

Northern Virginia is home to hundreds of breweries, wineries and distilleries as well as farm-to-table dining, country inns and estates, and charming small towns. Spanning from the Appalachian and Blue Ridge mountains in the west to the Potomac River in the east, this region offers gorgeous scenery and unique settings that are perfect for relaxing and tasting local beer, wine and spirits. The property now includes eight acres of vineyards, the circa 1790 manor house as well as a production facility.
