Welcome to the United States
Quite simply – the United States... coast to coast is an amazing destination to explore. Our journeys are a reflection of the vivid landscapes and hidden gems in our constantly amazing national parks with their red-rock canyons and blue-tinted ice fields... our local experts who continue to tell their stories and help define what our country is built on, a true blending of cultures... and the unique one off's... Newport mansions, the BEST fall foliage, antebellum architecture, Hawaiian luau's, sophisticated cityscapes each with a vibe all their own, Colonial villages, celebrated artists; think Norman Rockwell and so much more.
North america's national parks, tauck and the national parks... working together for more than 90 years.
Our relationship with National Parks in the US and Canada goes back to our very first tour in the 1920s. Today, we continue to combine ingenuity, years of expertise, local friends we've made along the way, and our love of the National Parks to create new ways for our guests to experience them. At last count, Tauck visits more than National Parks, monuments and historic sites across the US… from Acadia to Zion, in destinations ranging from Maine to Hawaii... often including Tauck Exclusive experiences within the parks, and stays at sought-after inside-the-park accommodations. We pride ourselves on providing unique insider access to these special places in ways that make sharing them with your friends and family unforgettable.
America's own tropical Pacific paradise... welcome to the Hawaiian Islands
There's only one place in America where you can walk atop surreal lava tubes and across volcanic terrain molding island landscapes… bask on golden sand beaches fanned by Pacific Ocean breezes on every side… chat with beach boys who "talk stories" at a place called Waikiki… and enjoy a luau under the tropical sun. And although it is indeed a far-off tropical island paradise, it's still very much one of these United States. Welcome to Hawaii…
The Great Lakes
Discovering the mighty great lakes.
Situated in the heart of the North American continent and forming part of the natural boundary between the United States and Canada, the mighty Great Lakes – Lakes Michigan, Superior, Huron, Erie and Ontario – have played a pivotal role in the political, industrial and cultural fabric of North America for centuries. In 2019, Tauck launches a new 12-day small ship cruise – "Cruising the Great Lakes: Chicago to Toronto" – featuring a 7-night voyage between those two mighty cities aboard the new Le Champlain, plus two-night stays at your choice of Fairmont or Four Seasons hotels in the anchor cities. As you explore the shores of Lakes Ontario, Erie, Huron and Michigan, check out a re-emerging Detroit; celebrate American ingenuity at The Henry Ford; have lunch at Mackinac Island's Grand Hotel; ride a dune buggy on the Lake Michigan shore; tour Chicago's Wrigley Field and more…
New England
Home to america's "cradle of liberty," ken burns's backyard, and the setting of tauck's very first tour.
Occupying the northeastern corner of the US, it was among the first areas of the North American continent colonized by Europeans, and contains the sites of the Pilgrims' landing, the "Boston Tea Party," and the "shot heard 'round the world" – the first skirmish of what would become the American Revolution. Comprising dense forests and rich river valleys, rugged coastlines, and mountain ranges with names like Berkshire, Adirondack, White and Green (to name a few), it encompasses the states of Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont and Maine. It's a land of lovely beaches, country lanes, summer cottages, tall ships, covered bridges, old whaling ports, fishing villages, white frame churches, picturesque lighthouses, and "lobstahh," It is New England…
Mackinac Island, Michigan
Step back in time on michigan's mackinac island.
Vehicle-free Mackinac Island – off the Michigan coast in the Straits of Mackinac connecting Lakes Michigan and Huron – has been a popular retreat since 19th-century industrialists built imposing summer "cottages" here, and remains serenely lost in time. The only way to get around is by foot, bicycle, or horse-drawn carriage, as you make your way past impeccable Victorian mansions and out to the fringes of forest, marshes, beaches and 19th-century Fort Mackinac. The island is home to the palatial Grand Hotel, which lays claim to the longest porch in the world. Since 1887, the Grand has hosted many presidents, as well as the likes of Mark Twain and Thomas Edison (who first demonstrated his phonograph on the hotel's iconic porch).

With more than 1000 adventures in over 100 countries, we’re now covering more of the globe than ever before – north to south, east to west.
Mountains to the lowlands, cities to the seas. So whether it’s the Arctic’s apex or Antarctica’s underside, Africa’s wilds or Europe’s elegance you seek – we’re there. There to get you off the beaten track, behind the scenes and really in the thick of the destination that's calling you.
We’ve got 1000+ trips in 100+ countries, so let’s find your next adventure.
There’s a reason Vietnam clocks in as our most popular destination year in, year out. Love great food? Bún chả, banh mi, pho, cơm tấm, banh xeo… there are plenty of noodle-y, soup-y, meat-y, herb-y, spicy type things for your tastebuds to enjoy. But if you’re the outdoorsy type, there are jungles, beaches and mountains galore to explore. And for the history buffs out there? A visit to military base Khe Sanh or the Vin Moc Tunnels are the best places to soak up some Vietnam War history (or as they call it there, the American War).
Morocco’s bustling medinas, vibrant landscapes and ancient cities are the stuff of legend. Why not pay a visit to the shimmering blue city of Chefchaouen? This captivating place is more than just an Instagrammer's dream – it’s remote enough that you truly get to experience authentic Moroccan culture. Further south, you might fancy getting lost in the famed medina of Fes or perhaps you’d rather spend a night under the stars, among the undulating dunes of the breathtaking Sahara Desert? Not a day goes by in Morocco that isn’t a feast for your eyes. And speaking of feasts… tajine anyone?
There’s something about India that captures people’s imaginations like few other places on earth. Those looking to explore their spiritual side are drawn to Rishikesh, the yoga-capital of the world with its colourful temples and ethereal river. Others love the hustle and bustle of Jaipur or Delhi, with hectic markets, spiced air and more delicious curries than you’ve imagined in your wildest dreams. In such a populated country, there are still opportunities to go off-road in areas like the Himalayan mountains. And of course, no visit to India is complete without witnessing a sunrise at the magnificent Taj Mahal.
Peru is a nature-lover's paradise. With a variety of treks (or a train ride) to reach the iconic architectural wonder that is Machu Picchu, this is a bucket-list item that doesn’t underdeliver on the hype. And then there’s the Amazon Jungle. Who doesn’t love disconnecting from modern society to seek monkeys, parrots and some truly remarkable local flora? The floating islands of Lake Titicaca are another sight to behold, where locals in colorful dress still live fairly traditional lives. Don’t forget to sample some ceviche in Lima – the internationally recognized food scene in the capital is not to be missed.
When it comes to delivering on classic travel experiences, it’s hard to surpass Egypt. The Pyramids of Giza are an absolute must-see, but don’t forget about the Sphinx, Luxor’s Valley of the Kings and the temples of Abu Simbel. Then, there’s the chaos of exploring a marketplace in Cairo, getting lost in the labyrinths of a perfume market, only stopping for a quick kebab to refuel. Or maybe a relaxing cruise down the Nile in a traditional felucca is more your pace. One thing’s for sure, you’ll never forget your time spent in this North African gem.
Sri Lanka holds a special place in the hearts of many. For one thing, travelers have really only returned to this island paradise in the years since the civil war ended, meaning there are plenty of lesser-known treasures for foreigners to discover. Head north and you’ll reach Jaffna, the previously off-limits northern capital, where you can learn all about the unique culture of the Tamil people who reside there. For the animal-lovers, Udawalawe is one of the best places to spot wild elephants in their natural jungle habitat. And it would be irresponsible not to mention the food – spicy, fragrant Sri Lankan cuisine is some of the world’s best.
The mesmerizing rhythms of mambo and danzón are enough to get anyone in the mood for a trip to Cuba. No matter where you go across the island, you’re guaranteed to find music and smiling, friendly locals. Start in Havana, preferably cruising along the malecon in a brightly, colored classic car. Then, you’ll want to spend some time in Vinales – lush, green, tabacco-farming countryside, where the nights end with spectacular sunsets and mojitos are always flowing. There’s also something to be said for some beach time in rustic Trinidad. This old-fashioned town might seem sleepy during the day, but just wait until the underground cave club gets going at night…
Cambodia is well-known for its epic array of glittering temples, and for good reason. When you’re watching a sunrise over Angkor Wat, or wandering around the pink sandstone of Banteay Srei, it’s not hard to see why. Cambodia’s beauty and slower pace can make you feel as though you’ve stepped back in time. Visit the lively food markets in Siem Reap, where you can get your fill of many popular street foods – all manner of grilled meats, squid and even insects if you’re so inclined. And don’t miss the opportunity to learn about Cambodia’s sobering history at the Killing Fields and pay your respects to those who lost their lives.
Jordan might not be as well known as its other famous neighbors, but it is an underrated favorite among travelers. From the crystal blue waters of the Red Sea to the salty waters of the Dead Sea, this country is filled with friendly people, great tasting food and sights to behold. Sleeping under the stars in the desert of Wadi Rum is truly spectacular; this otherworldly expanse is a place like no other. But Jordan’s crowning jewel is Petra – the ancient Bedouin civilization that has still not fully been uncovered. The famous Treasury is a breathtaking architectural masterpiece, and the walking trails up to the various high points of the city provide views for days.
Australia is big, bold and beautiful, so it’s no surprise the Land Down Under is a popular choice for travelers. Learn about the world’s most ancient culture with the First Nations people at Uluru in the heart of the country, go croc-spotting in the wilds of Kakadu or take a road trip up Australia’s unspoiled western coastline. If the cities are more your style, a trip east to explore Melbourne’s bar and restaurant culture or check out Sydney’s famous Opera House and bridge could be on the cards. And of course, snorkeling on the spectacular UNESCO-listed Great Barrier Reef in a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Picture this: You have all of your clothes, accessories and toiletries packed for your next big vacation. You are so ready to head out the door and have the perfect airport outfit . . . but are completely amiss at what shoes to wear. This happens to me all too often, because what shoes are great for traveling? Turns out you’ve got options. There’s plenty of footwear that is suitable for long airport walks and long haul flights that will keep your feet secure, cushioned and happy. Israel, the West Bank and Gaza Travel Advisory
Travel advisory july 31, 2024, see individual summaries.
Updated to reflect U.S. government restrictions on travel to Northern Israel, and information for U.S. citizens, Lawful Permanent Residents and qualifying immediate family members seeking assistance in Gaza.
Do Not Travel To:
- Gaza due to terrorism and armed conflict
- Northern Israel within 2.5 miles of the Lebanese and Syrian borders due to the rising tensions between Hizballah and Israel
Reconsider Travel To:
- Israel due to terrorism and civil unrest
- West Bank due to terrorism and civil unrest
Country Summary: Terrorist groups, lone-actor terrorists and other violent extremists continue plotting possible attacks in Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza. Terrorists and violent extremists may attack with little or no warning, targeting tourist locations, transportation hubs, markets/shopping malls, and local government facilities. Violence can occur in Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza without warning.
Some areas have increased risk. Read the country information page for additional information on travel to Israel and the West Bank, and Gaza.
Visit the CDC page for the latest Travel Health Information related to your travel.
If you decide to travel to Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza.
- Visit our website for Travel to High-Risk Areas .
- Check the most recent Alerts at the Embassy website for the latest information on travel in all of these areas.
- Maintain a high degree of situational awareness and exercise caution at all times, especially at checkpoints and other areas with a significant presence of security forces.
- Avoid demonstrations and crowds.
- Follow the instructions of security and emergency response officials.
- Beware of and report suspicious activities, including unattended items, to local police.
- Learn the location of the nearest bomb shelter or other hardened shelter. Download the Home Front Command Red Alert application for mobile devices (available on devices within Israel) to receive real time alerts for rocket attacks.
- Obtain comprehensive travel medical insurance that includes medical evacuation prior to travel. Most travel insurance packages do not cover mental health related illnesses/care.
- Enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive Alerts and make it easier to locate you in an emergency.
- Follow the Department of State on Facebook and X/ Twitter .
- Review the Country Security Report for Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza.
- Prepare a contingency plan for emergency situations. Review the Traveler’s Checklist .
Gaza – Do Not Travel
Do not travel due to terrorism and armed conflict .
The U.S. government is unable to provide routine or emergency consular services to U.S. citizens in Gaza as U.S. government employees are prohibited from traveling there. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are conducting large-scale military operations in Gaza against Hamas, a U.S. government-designated foreign terrorist organization, which was responsible for the October 7 attack on Israel. As a result of the armed conflict, the security environment within Gaza and on its borders is extremely dangerous and volatile. The pedestrian crossing between Gaza and Israel was damaged on October 7 and remains closed, and the pedestrian crossing between Egypt and Gaza has been closed since May 7 and it is unknown when it will re-open. There are sporadic telecommunication and internet outages within Gaza further inhibiting the ability of residents to obtain information.
If a U.S. citizen, Lawful Permanent Resident (LPR), or qualified immediate family member desires our assistance and has not already provided their information to the Department of State, please email U.S. Embassy Jerusalem at [email protected] with a copy of the individual’s travel document as well as an explanation or proof of relationship.
Visit our website for Travel to High Risk Areas .
- If you decide to travel to Gaza:
- Be prepared for an indefinite stay as the crossings between Gaza with Israel and Egypt can close without advance notice and for long periods during times of unrest and armed conflict.
- Have a plan for entering and departing Gaza that does not rely on U.S. government assistance.
- Households with infants and young children should plan for food and supplies, such as diapers and wipes, formula or baby food, and a change of clothing.
- If you take medication, make sure to have at least five days’ worth at any given time – if you can, we encourage enough for two weeks beyond your scheduled trip and have a copy of your prescriptions handy.
- If you use assistive or medical devices that require a power supply, be sure to find backup power or other ways that will sustain your device or equipment during a power outage.
- Draft a will and designate appropriate insurance beneficiaries and/or power of attorney.
- Discuss a plan with loved ones regarding care/custody of children, pets, property, belongings, non-liquid assets (collections, artwork, etc.), funeral wishes, etc.
- Leave DNA samples with your medical provider in case it is necessary for your family to access them.
Please be sure to visit our website for How to Prepare for a Crisis for information that may be helpful.
Israel – Reconsider Travel (see below for specific advice on travel within 2.5 miles of Lebanese and Syrian borders)
Reconsider travel due to terrorism and civil unrest .
The security situation remains unpredictable, and U.S. citizens are reminded to remain vigilant and take appropriate steps to increase their security awareness as security incidents, including mortar and rocket fire, often take place without warning.
- U.S. government employees in Israel under Chief of Mission security responsibility are currently restricted from personal travel to the following locations:
- Within seven miles of the Gaza demarcation line, as well as the cities of Ashdod and Ashkelon; and
- Within 1.5 miles of the Israel-Egypt border.
Additional travel restrictions may be imposed on U.S. government employees under Chief of Mission security responsibility, with little to no notice due to increased security issues or threats.
Northern Israel (within 2.5 miles of Lebanese and Syrian borders) – Do Not Travel
U.S. government employees in Israel under Chief of Mission security responsibility are currently restricted from personal travel within 2.5 miles of the Lebanese and Syrian borders. Any U.S. government travel to this area is done in full coordination with Israeli security forces.
Due to the ongoing active hostilities between Israel and Hizballah, the U.S. Embassy strongly recommends that U.S. citizens do not travel within 2.5 miles of the Lebanese and Syrian borders. Cross-border rocket, missile, and drone strikes continue to impact this area daily and have resulted in casualties. The Israeli authorities already restrict travel to these areas.
West Bank – Reconsider Travel
- U.S. government employees in Israel under Chief of Mission security responsibility are currently restricted from all personal travel to the West Bank, except:
- U.S. government employees can use Routes 1, 90, and 443 at any time.
- U.S. government employees are permitted personal daylight travel to Jericho and Bethlehem, including Beit Jala and Beit Sahour. Given continued closures of checkpoints throughout the West Bank, the only permitted and accessible route into Bethlehem for U.S. government employees and their family members is through Checkpoint 300 near Rachel’s Tomb.
- U.S. government employees are permitted daylight travel to: Inn of the Good Samaritan, An-Nabi Musa, Wadi Qelt Nature Preserve, and St. George’s Monastery along Route 1; and Qumran, Kalia Beach, St. Gerasimos/Khogla Monastery, Al Auju, and Qasr al-Yaud baptismal site along Route 90.
Over the past few months, there has been an increase in settler violence, Israeli military operations, and terrorist attacks.
Additional travel restrictions may be imposed on U.S. government employees under Chief of Mission security responsibility with little to no notice due to increased security issues or threats.

Labor Day air travel caps record-setting summer, in three charts
A record number of travelers is expected to shuttle through the nation’s airports this Labor Day weekend, with as many as 17 million passengers expected from Thursday through the following Wednesday, the Transportation Security Administration said.
The agency, which tracks the numbers of passengers it screens for security, is projecting as many as 2.86 million passengers on Friday alone, in what’s expected to be the busiest air travel day of the holiday.
That would exceed the number of passengers screened on the same day last year and in 2019, before the Covid-19 pandemic disrupted air travel across the country.
All 10 of the busiest days in 2024 occurred earlier this summer , with a peak of more than 3 million passengers passing through checkpoints on July 7. Since Memorial Day weekend, the agency has screened nearly 240 million passengers, averaging 2.7 million daily, it said.
The anticipated holiday traffic continues a trend in 2024, which has seen higher traffic at the nation’s airports throughout the year. The expected Labor Day passengers, however, won’t even break into the agency’s top ten record-setting volume days in 2024.
During the same period of time in 2019, the daily average passenger volume was 2.3 million. Air travel dropped off markedly during the start of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, only recovering to levels similar to those of before the virus in 2023. This summer’s surge appears to be in spite of the virus, with the US expecting its largest summer wave of infections in two years.
