The Script is an Irish pop rock band formed by childhood best friends Danny O'Donoghue and Mark Sheehan in Dublin.

Working on music together since they were young boys, the duo found work in Los Angeles as a song writing team for the likes of TLC, Britney Spears and Boyz II Men. After a few false starts with their own record deal, the friends returned to Dublin and recruited drummer Glen Power. With this addition, The Script was born and the band never looked back.

The release of the band’s first album “The Script” blew critics and listeners away and debuted in the number one position on the UK and Irish charts. Much of the success of this first album must be accredited to the singles “We Cry” and “Break Even”, but mostly to “The Man Who Can’t Be Moved” which reached number two on the Irish and UK singles charts.

With the buzz generated from the first album, The Script won legions of fans across Europe and the US which assured that the release of their three subsequent albums – “Science & Faith”, “#3” and “No Sound Without Silence” – all hit the number one or two spot within the UK and Ireland, and were all top 20 albums in the US.

The band has completed three world tours to support their albums, and their hit singles “Hall of Fame” – which saw the band collaborate with will.i.am - and “Superheroes” are always met with excitement wherever they play. While the band has only been making music since 2001, their sound is certainly mature and self-assured.

The Script’s pop rock melodies and thoughtful lyrics can certainly be traced back to the band’s influences, which include Van Morrison, Snow Patrol, The Police and U2. Already off to a great start, The Script certainly have many more musical tricks up their sleeve, and their fans are dying to hear them.

Live reviews

At first I didn't think I was actually going to go and see The Script live in concert. I liked the Script, but I didn't actually know many of their songs apart from the popular ones. This was until one of my friends urged me to listen to more of their songs. The more I listened to them, the more I grew to love their music and their lyrics. I decided at this point that it would be worth going to see them live and going to my first ever music concert at Perth Arena. So I bought a ticket and went along with my sister.

I had no idea what to expect, but I was blown away my the magic of the night. Not just the magic, the atmosphere, the sense of united love for these guys who brought the place to life. Colton Avery was a great support act too, looks like he definitely has a bright future, and made the right move teaming up with the Script.

Danny, Mark and Glen couldn't have been more amazing throughout the night. They entertained Perth with not only their energy and talent but also that good old Irish humour. Best of all, relating us all to the deep meanings and moods of their songs performed. Danny actually asked the audience if anyone had an ex he could call and perform the song 'Nothing' to. He actually did this, and farewelled the ex with a "goodbye asshole!". Funniest moment.

Danny's crowd run with a go-pro was a pretty sweet moment too. When he came across my seated section, he was only a few rows in front of me!

But the best part of all was the way the guys finished the show. If this wasn't THE magical moment, I don't know what was. The final song performed was 'Hall of Fame' which was very fitting to end the first show of the Australian leg for the guys. Danny told us all to switch the flashlight on all of our phones, making the arena looked like a candlelit shrine. The atmospheric vibes were so crazy and uplifting that everyone in the seated area who were sitting the whole night erupted on their feet to pay tribute to the guys and the whole arena united as one and sang along. It was the best night I have ever had, and I really mean that! I truly love The Script and their music!

The Script was awesome. This was easily one of the best performances I've ever seen. First of all the venue, while not very aesthetically pleasing, offered much in the way of every "seat" having a good view of the stage. Parking was convenient and it was easy to locate. Additionally, the price of the ticket was extremely reasonable. Although I didn't particularly enjoy Mary Lambert's performance as she did more talking than singing, I did like the first opener but of course they both paled in comparison to The Script.

Every time I see them, I'm amazed because they sound even better live than they do on their albums. My only complaint the last time I saw them was that their performance wasn't long enough but since this is their tour, they more than made up for that this time. They sang nearly everything that you'd want to hear - old and new and as always, it was a very high energy performance and the lead singer made several forays into the audience. As a regular concert goer, I can honestly say that his being willing to come out into the audience repeatedly is a very unusual thing for performers do which really makes me feel that they really do appreciate their fans and don't mind interacting with them.

I said it previously and I'll say it again, this was an awesome show and if they ever come anywhere near where I'm located and even if I have to travel aways, I'll definitely see them again. This show was definitely worth the cost of the ticket and then some.

I went to see the Script with my friend, and I must say I was quite apprehensive about seeing them. Not because I dislike their music, on the contrary I find it thoroughly relaxing, but because most other gigs I have been to in the past have been rather more up beat and dancey. However, I must say I was very pleasantly surprised. The entire atmosphere, although different to a pop or sock gig, was electric, full of dedicated fans.

My favourite song of the night, ‘Six Degrees of Seperation’ was very touching and the crowd were hanging off the lead singers every word, becoming involved with his emotional performance. As the song began to pick up, the audience were swaying and holding their phone lights up to signify their appreciation for the music. It was unlike any gig I had been to before and I thoroughly enjoyed watching the Irish soft rock live.

Even if you are not interested inherently in this genre of music, from a fan of heavier music, I really do recommend using the script to broaden your horizons. Their lyrics and melodies are fabulous, and to watch them convey the sometimes-emotional messages first hand was something really special for me.

Indescribable is a word that describes the concert experience! From the moment they came on stage the crowd cheered and screamd their lungs out.

It was inevitable that the show would include tracks from this highly anticipated album. With their huge success, it was also inevitable that their huge number of singles would also be making an appearance. Allowing us to share their success over the years while singing our hart out to the favorites. With a combination of their newes hits The Script gave a monumental show!

They harbour such great talent. The show had everything, from the cheering, screaming, singing along to their upclose interaction with the audience. One could think there was no more to give. To top it all of, they held almost one hour extra show after they where finished. Making the crowd feel their love for music and the respect they have for their fans! The words THANK YOU FOR AN AMAZING SHOW does not nearly describe the experience!

For those who love heart filled good music is The Script an absolute must go to consert!

The Script at the O2 was the best concert I have ever been to. I entered a competition to be part of the parade which features at the start of the show. Backstage we had rehearsals where we could watch their soundcheck. The lads were mucking around in their go karts around the arena which was hilarious!!

A short while later we were waiting backstage and Danny came in to meet us and he was lovely! He took time with all of us and we managed to get individual and a group photo!

Being in the parade was also the best experience with all the crowd screaming and looking around the arena with everyone holding their phone torches up.

The lads had an amazing set singing 20 songs all of which everyone sang their hearts out. You could also tell they had spent time thinking everything out with some amazing lazers and effects and an extra B stage.

Thank you The Script for an unforgettable experience :-)

I attended my 4th The Script show on June 6th 2015 and I have to say, it was the greatest show out of all the one's I have been to. I was on the drummer's VIP list and I got to meet them (I have multiple times) and got great seats at the first show of the balcony. The music was perfect, the atmosphere was fantastic, and it was overall a great night. Glen Power (the drummer) noticed me up in the crowd and pointed and waved to me on multiple occasions and at the end of the show waved once more, attempted to throw his drumstick up at me, and blew me a kiss before walking off stage. Danny O'Donoghue (front man) also ran up to my seating area in mid song and high fived me and a bunch of other people around me. It was for sure a night to remember and I still haven't gotten over it. I am a huge fan of The Script and I would advise anyone and everyone to go to their shows. You'll completely enjoy it :) xx

The concert was simply amazing, to be honest it was the best concert I've been to so far... I was extremely surprised what a deep, rough voice the lead singer of the band had, which gave the songs that certain something.

I can't say anything more but that the atmosphere and the whole show were incredible!!!

But also the service of the organizer "good news" was totally well structured and unique, there were no problems at all!

I'm definitely planning to go to another The Script-concert when they are in Switzerland the next time and I'm already looking forward to it!

... I just hope that they will be able to actually attend the show next time...!

OMG! If you have not seen The Script live, you must see them! They are an incredible live band. So much energy in the place. Not only was the concert great (Danny came down into the audience to do a song), but these guys LOVE their fans. There were over 100 fans lined up at the back gate and they came out and signed CD's, albums, shirts and verious body parts and took pictures with everyone. They left nobody out and didn't leave until everyone was happy. They really appreciate what their core fan base has done to support them. PLEASE SEE THIS BAND!! BUY THE NEW ALBUM FREEDOM CHILD! It's awesome!!

As if The Script wasn't already my favorite band of all time, they literally are some of the best performers that I have ever witnessed! So fun and so energetic, it is hard not to become obsessed with them after seeing them live! They even called an audience members ex boyfriend when they sang Nothing and sang to the ex the whole time, it was literally incredible! They always have amazing set lists and are always there to entertain the heck out of the audience! Adored them from the start, no one will be sorry that they saw the script perform!

The Script engages an audience like no other! Lead singer, Danny, always makes his way into the crowd...sometimes 3-4 times during a concert, and interacts w/ fans via high fives, hugs, selfies, and kisses...yep, kisses!!!! Glen (drummer) makes lots of eye contact and waves to fans often and Mark is constantly flicking picks into the crowd! The Script practice a great deal and it shows in their performances as they are always flawless! At every gig, they gain new fans and respect! Don't miss them next time they come to your area!!!!

The Script

Four albums and nine years into a 29 million records-selling career, The Script decided to change things up a bit. It was time, and it was necessary.

The Irish trio had been rocking a creative routine: album, hit singles, tour… album, hit singles, tour… And it had worked: songs like For The First Time, Hall Of Fame, Breakeven and Superheroes had been smashes on a global scale. The Script’s combined YouTube views are one  billion , and they’ve had three UK Number One albums. It adds up to a band who are that rarest of things: streaming-era superstars, beloved of any number of inspirational playlists; self-produced singer-songwriters, album artists in the traditional sense; and a huge, all-ages, all-sexes, arena-filling live phenom.

The Script are all of the above, with the sales and international footprint to match.

No Sound Without Silence (2014), the last album by Danny O’Donoghue (vocals, piano), Mark Sheehan (vocals, guitar) and Glen Power (drums, vocals) was a product of that whirlwind: it was written and partly recorded in a studio installed back of the band’s tour bus as they criss-crossed America. Created very much in ScriptWorld, it was the product of momentum and what O’Donoghue described at the time as “that nervous energy coming straight off stage”.

But for their fifth album, the band are very much in the real world, presenting a collection of urgent, timely, future-facing anthems that speak of both real-life events and real-time sonic adventurism. Freedom Child is The Script standing up and standing strong, its title a reflection of the “whole new world we’re in” and its songs demonstrating an energetic embrace of modern pop production.

As Sheehan notes, “it’s getting fearful to go to festivals, it’s getting fearful to go to gigs. We’ve all been affected by recent events in a huge way. But how do we say something as an artist without seeming like you’re trying to ram something down people’s necks, but also make sure people are aware of your message? My eight year old came in to me the other day and said: ‘Dad, what’s terrorism?’ And that was the start of the song Freedom Child,” he says of the driving, uplifting title track, “which is like advice to an eight-year-old kid.”

And, in terms of the challenge of “wrapping up a serious message”, The Script took a route-one approach to the song. “We thought, let’s go uptempo. Just making people bop is sometimes the best way to go.”

Before they switched on, The Script dropped out. After finishing a year’s touring their last album at Rock In Rio in September 2015, the band decided it was time to step off the album/tour treadmill and, “for the first time, to take some time off,” says Mark.

Partly this was down to sheer tiredness. Partly it was necessitated by O’Donoghue needing surgery for nodules – he endured two operations and two months’ silence. Not something that came easily to the charismatic – and, shall we say, gabby – singer who was a hit as a judge on two seasons of BBC1’s The Voice.

Then, with the frontman back to match-fitness by early 2016, “we went on a big musical journey,” continues Sheehan. For most of last year, and into spring this year, The Script pinballed between studios in London and Los Angeles, again producing themselves but this time working, the guitarist notes, “with loads of different people, and then also just ourselves”.

Adds O’Donoghue, recalling he and Sheehan’s pre-band years as R&B producers/writers in the US, “that’s what we used to do before we were The Script – we were just studio rats, hanging out!”

Their self-imposed challenge: how do they reboot The Script? And how do they reflect a rapidly changing world?

“We’d never before had the luxury of time,” observes O’Donoghue. “We’d come off tour, write 12 songs, that’s the album, now we release it. This time we could afford to not rush it, and to throw things away, or to revisit things. That was a blessing.”

In London, they came up with the first keeper: Rock The World.

“If this all ended tomorrow, you can’t take away the fact we were all born with fuck-all in Dublin,” begins Sheehan by way of explaining the lyrics. “And we’ve achieved some great stuff – at home we’ve graced the stage of Croke Park in front of 80,000 fans and as you can imagine behind us stands some very important people, wives and girlfriends, and from that stage we get to look at those people and say, We Rocked the World”.

Moving on to LA, they installed themselves in a small studio, a “mancave” in Santa Monica. They were in the US in the run-up to the Presidential election, and the aftermath.

“Brexit had happened here, now we’re in this crazy atmosphere in America,” recalls O’Donoghue. All around it felt like fault lines were opening up.

Sheehan: “On the actual day that Trump won, I remember saying, jokingly, ‘we better get back to the hotel from the studio quicksmart tonight, in case riots kick off. And they were! There were loads of people in the streets – the unrest was real. This didn’t feel like a country that was together.”

The immediate result was the R&B-flavoured Divided States, a defiant, pissed off-sounding tune on which Sheehan raps out their anger.

Arms Open is another product of the LA sessions. It was written with Nasri Atweh, lead singer with reggae fusion band Magic!, a collaboration begun in some backstage chats at Summersonic in Japan. It already feels like a live set-closing triumph, a welcoming, embracing anthem.

“We wanted to have something that felt positive,” explains Sheehan. “When everything is going shit, our arms are open. It’s a simple, strong message, delivered in a heartland Script sort of way.”

Wonders is another blast of positivity, created with Toby Gad, who co-wrote All Of Me With John Legend. A piano-led club banger, it’s a song about seizing the moment, chasing your dreams and embracing life’s bucket-list.

Those themes of liberation and encouragement are also there in No Man Is An Island. The last song written for the album, it’s a collaboration with Camille Pursell and Jimbo Barry who has co-written and co-produced with the Script for several years. The band explain how Camille channelled her Jamaican heritage into the writing, while Swedish producer Oscar Görres (Maroon 5, Ella Eyre, Tove Lo), helped add to Jimbo's “almost EDM-ish” production.

Finally, but also firstly, there’s Rain, the album’s lead single, recorded back in London at Chiswick’s legendary Metropolis studios. It’s the sound of The Script leading a joyful dance of defiance. “It shows how our sound has moved on,” offers Sheehan, “but it’s still a fucking awesome song!”

“We’re not a preachy band,” says O’Donoghue. “The messages are shot through most of the songs, but it’s not a full-on assault – there are lighter moments too. And Rain is a perfect example of that, and a great way to introduce Freedom Child.”

A mention, too, for the album sleeve art. It’s an image of a youngster standing in a rain-lashed city street, neon wings on his back, with the song titles reflected in the names of the shops. It underpins the sentiments – defiance, escapism, uplift, unity – that run through all the songs.

As Sheehan puts it with typical passion: “We wanted to have a picture that kinda said to kids: ‘Go out there and be free. Create. Write your poems, sing your songs, tell your stories, dance – do all the things that terrorism doesn’t want you to fucking do. Be your fucking selves.”

“We went to a stag do in London last Friday,” chips in Mark Sheehan. “We dressed our mate up in a dress, and paraded him round Soho. No one batted an eye! And  that’s  the kind of society we want to live in! I love that world, where you can be anything you want.”

“Freedom of expression is one of the most important things in life,” concludes Danny O’Donoghue, “and that inspired us. The only way you can trump hate is with love. Yes, I am a hippie!” the singer laughs. “Music is the one true religion – it doesn’t matter what you look like, whatever your religion or gender or sexuality or gender or whatever.”

Amen to that. With the feelgood, stand-tall, stand-together Freedom Child, The Script have created the perfect soundtrack for now, and for tomorrow.

Event Details

The Script have announced that they will be bringing their headline tour to The O2 on Saturday 23 November 2024.

After 10 billion streams, 12 million album sales, six UK #1 albums and two Platinum-certified US singles, The Script return with the release of their new album ‘Satellites’ on 16 August 2024.

Their new single ‘Both Ways’ sees The Script strike out with swaggering new energy, with boisterous hip-hop and funk rhythms providing the irresistible dance-floor vibes to complement the star quality of Danny’s voice. The result is frantically fun, an explosive cocktail that brings to mind Black Eyed Peas playing Bruno Mars’ ‘Locked Out of Heaven’ and it is a world apart from anything The Script have previously released.

Glen Power says, “‘Both Ways’ is high energy, and maybe not what people might expect from us. But we’re The Script, and now we have something to prove: that there is life and light after the darkness. It’s why we’re coming fast and strong with that one.”

Vowing to pay tribute to their friend (Mark Sheehan) by continuing the band they had built together, vocalist Danny O’Donoghue returned to the studio and experimented in a number of ways: using 808s and playing with R&B-inspired sounds, focusing on upbeats sonics, and co-writing with hitmakers Steve Robson (Rascal Flatts, Take That) and Wayne Hector (One Direction, Nicki Minaj) as well as bandmate Glen Power. What emerged is ‘Satellites’, an utterly uplifting collection of songs that forges a new future for The Script while remembering that although Mark may no longer be here, he remains a vital part of everything that they do.

Danny explains, “The album cover is silhouettes of me, Glen and Ben Sargeant, our bassist, who's been with us from the beginning. Then we have a hooded silhouette, because the air of Mark is still there. He always will be, but it's also giving a tip of the hat to the future. It'll never be the same Script. We're just trying to get on and do what it is that we all feel is the next right thing to do and that’s to keep making more great music.”

Satellites World Tour: The Script Live in Manila 2025

With over 10 billion streams, 12 million album sales, six UK #1 albums and two Platinum-certified US singles, the multi-awarded and platinum-selling Irish band, THE SCRIPT is coming back to Manila and bringing their SATELLITES WORLD TOUR on February 11, 2025 at the Araneta Coliseum. Presented by Midas Promotions and Wilbros Live. Tickets go on-sale on August 10, 10AM via TicketNet.com.ph and TicketNet outlets nationwide.

After reuniting for select shows with The Script family in 2023, the band is ready to hit the road and head out to big stages of their own. This will see them play to over 2 million fans around the world this year and more next year. The Script will be performing their biggest hits and fan favourites from their six studio albums like “The Man Who Can’t Be Moved”, “Breakeven”, “For The First Time”, “Hall of Fame”, “Superheroes”, and songs from their highly anticipated new album ‘Satellites’ featuring the new hit song “Both Ways”.

Glen Power says, “.. we’re The Script, and now we have something to prove: that there is life and light after the darkness.” Vowing to pay tribute to their friend (Mark Sheehan) by continuing the band they had built together, vocalist Danny O’Donoghue returned to the studio and experimented in a number of ways. What emerged is ‘Satellites’, an utterly uplifting collection of songs that forges a new future for The Script while remembering that although Mark may no longer be here, he remains a vital part of everything that they do.

Danny explains, “The album cover is silhouettes of me, Glen and Ben Sargeant, our bassist.. Then we have a hooded silhouette, because the air of Mark is still there. He always will be, but it’s also giving a tip of the hat to the future. It’ll never be the same Script. We’re just trying to get on and do what it is that we all feel is the next right thing to do and that’s to keep making more great music.”

Chappell Roan Says She’s Canceling Scalper-Bought Tickets for Tennessee Show, Offers Fans an Alternative Shot at Getting In

Chappell Roan performs for the kick off of GUTS World Tour at Acrisure Arena on February 23, 2024 in Palm Springs, California.

Chappell Roan is telling fans that her team has canceled tickets to an upcoming show in Franklin, Tenn., that they believe were bought by scalpers or bots — and she has put up a link to a special Ticketmaster page she said will allow “people who actually want to come” to have a shot at purchasing the recovered tickets.

Tickets for the concert in Franklin, a city just south of Nashville, are of considerable national interest because Roan, indisputably one of the hottest artists in America at the moment, has only a handful of shows on the books in the U.S. at the present time, with any larger tour yet to be announced.

Roan says the tickets that were canceled will be reallocated to real fans, but didn’t specify how many will be made available. In any case, the demand is likely to be many, many times whatever supply will become available. So, with the new page that has been set up, potential buyers who make it through the queue will be asked to submit their information and informed later if they have been selected to get tickets.

As part of these submissions for what sounds effectively like a ticket lottery, fans are being required to submit payment information in case their requests do end up being processed. Roan indicated in her video statement that this will help keep scalpers from once again obtaining the reallocated tickets.

“This is a larger issue,” she concluded. “We’re dealing with it. But thank you for understanding, and I can’t wait to see people who deserve to be here. It means everything to me. So, mwah — thank you so much.”

There is not a great deal of precedent for artists announcing they have identified and canceled tickets bought for the intention of reselling, but Eric Church is one such singer who blazed this anti-scalper path prior to Roan. In 2017, the country star announced he had canceled more than 25,000 tickets that had been sold for a tour, saying he was putting them back on sale with the hope of them going directly to fans. Church had previously done it on a small scale for individual shows. “They buy thousands of tickets across the U.S., not just mine, and they end up making a fortune,” Church said of resellers at the time. “They use fake credit cards, fake IDs. All of this is fraud.”

Although Roan made it sound as if she was inquisitive about the quick sellout in Tennessee, it’s safe to say virtually any show she would put on sale now would sell out quickly, with or without bots. Besides the Franklin, Tenn. concert, Roan currently has just four other stops on the books for the U.S., which will undoubtedly see fans flying in from other cities. Two of these are individual headlining shows, set for Oct. 2 in Rogers, Arkansas, and Oct. 3 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The other two are festival gigs, first at the All Things Go Festival in Columbia, Maryland, the weekend of Sept. 28-29, followed by two shows at the Austin City Limits Festival on Oct. 6 and 13.

Roan’s future touring plans are the subject of considerable speculation, with headlining arenas throughout 2025 an obvious possibility for an artist whose popularity has grown exponentially since she began touring as Olivia Rodrigo’s opening act in February.

Her debut album, “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess,” got off to a slow start after being released in September 2023, but she has become the buzziest new pop star of 2024, with the album being a constant presence in the top 5 in recent weeks.

Roan is as hot in Europe as she is in America. She recently canceled one European gig and postponed two others in the run-up to the MTV Video Music Awards Sept. 11, on which she will have what is arguably the most anticipated performance of the night.

The Liverpool grunge-rock four-piece were due to kick off a string of autumn shows in Dublin on October 18. However, today (August 31) they’ve announced that the dates won’t be going ahead.

In a statement shared to Instagram, the band told fans it was “with a heavy heart” that they’re cancelling of all the planned tour dates “due to recent circumstances”. It’s unclear exactly what the circumstances are.

“We were incredibly excited to share this tour with you, but after careful consideration, it has been decided that it’s not the best decision for us at this time,” they said. “We sincerely apologise to everyone who was looking forward to seeing us perform, and we are deeply sorry for the disappointment this will cause.”

“Please know that your support means the world to us,” they continued. “Thank you for your understanding and patience during this time.”

Ticket refunds will be available from the point of purchase.

The Mysterines shared their second album ‘Afraid Of Tomorrows’ earlier this year. Speaking to NME ahead of its release , singer Lia Metcalfe said that the band had a lot more confidence approaching writing this time around. “I’ve been through way too much to not overindulge in creating something new, when given the opportunity,” she explained. “The driving force behind this band has always been for it to be this outlet for creativity. Whenever I feel panicky or a bit lost, I tap into that inner child and remember why I started doing this. This new album feels unapologetic.

“There are some ridiculous moments on the record but if we don’t do it now, when are we going to do it? That’s why I respect artists like  Lou Reed  and  Patti Smith . They did the thing that everyone thought you shouldn’t, and that’s how they made their mark. That’s how you create something unique.”

Chappell Roan Is Being Called Out After She Posted A Photo From Her VMAs Rehearsal On The Day Of The Paris Concert That She Canceled Last-Minute Due To “Scheduling Conflicts”

“She had to make sure European fans who bought tickets to her tour before she even became famous knew she ditched them for an award performance,” one disappointed fan tweeted.

Stephanie Soteriou

BuzzFeed Staff

Last week, Chappell Roan upset thousands of fans when she suddenly canceled two dates from her European tour and rescheduled another on incredibly short notice.

Singer Chappell Roan performs on stage, wearing a futuristic outfit with metallic details and star designs, holding a mic close to her face

On Aug. 29, just two days before her scheduled show in Berlin, Germany, on Aug. 31, Chappell revealed that it had been postponed to Sept. 23.

She also canceled her Paris and Amsterdam gigs, which were scheduled for Sept. 3 and 4, entirely.

“Due to scheduling conflicts, I have had to make the extremely hard decision to cancel my Paris and Amsterdam shows. I have rescheduled my Berlin show to 23 September,” she wrote on social media at the time. “I am so sorry & very disappointed :( I promise I will be back. I’m heartbroken 💔 thank you for understanding.”

Needless to say, ticket-holders were both shocked and saddened by the last-minute announcement — especially as many had booked transport and accommodation to attend the shows, which could not be refunded with just a couple of days’ notice.

Chappell Roan passionately sings on stage in a red fringed bodysuit with black star designs

It is also notable that Chappell’s tour went on sale back in March, which is before she broke through to the mainstream this summer.

Therefore, it’s not lost on fans that her Berlin show has been moved from the 3,500-capacity venue Columbiahalle to the 12,000-capacity Velodrom.

Amid all this, speculation began to grow that Chappell had canceled her concerts so that she could attend rehearsals for the MTV Video Music Awards, which she will perform at next week.

And on Tuesday, the star sparked backlash when she shared a photo of herself doing exactly that — on the date of what should have been her Paris show.

Chappell Roan in elaborate stage costume with ruffled black dress, red curly wig, and tall black hat, holds two gold rods. Text: "I am in @vmas rehearsals guys"

Sharing a photo of herself in full makeup and costume to her Instagram story, Chappell wrote: “I am in @vmas rehearsals guys,” but the post did not go down well with followers.

One X user posted a screenshot of the story to her account and wrote : “she had to make sure european fans who bought tickets to her tour before she even became famous knew she ditched them for an award performance she wouldn’t have had the occasion to do if it wasn’t for them.”

And this tweet appeared to resonate, racking up thousands of likes and retweets.

“chappell i love you but this is a TERRIBLE look when a couple days ago you just said ‘scheduling conflicts,’” another hugely popular tweet reads.

Somebody else quote-tweeted this and asked : “do we think chappell just doesn’t have a pr team or is she just this tone deaf?? bc posting this the day that the paris gig was supposed to go ahead is making the whole thing even worse.”

“to post this after being assumed thats why u cancelled the shows is a big f u in the face for european fans,” one more echoed .

Some, however, defended Chappell, insisting that choosing the VMAs over her pre-arranged concerts would have been a no-brainer career move.

Chappell Roan with long curly hair on stage, wearing a sparkling blue bodysuit with gold accents, holding a microphone mid-performance

“there is not a single person that wouldn’t cancel a 1500 capacity show to perform at the vmas shut the fuck up,” a particularly popular tweet reads.

But critics were quick to point out that the short notice was the most significant factor in the backlash, not Chappell canceling in general.

One wrote : “its understandable she wanted to do the vmas performance, the issue is with her giving her fans 0 notice of the cancellation till days before when they were then unable to get refunded ! hope that helps x”

“those 1500 people are important. buying tickets is a business transaction. cancelling at the last minute is unprofessional,” one more wrote .

“We have now gotten to the point where ‘setting boundaries’ has become, ‘she can do whatever she wants, she owes you nothing.’ Cancelling a long time planned show bc you got a better opportunity will makes fans upset. She is free to do what she wants but not from criticism,” another tweeted .

Chappell was previously accused of being “passive aggressive” when she reacted to the disappointment from her fans in an Instagram comment at the weekend. She wrote at the time: “I’m very sorry :,( I explained why I canceled and I know it sucks but hopefully ppl can understand <3 I promise I will b back xoxo”

Chappell Roan on stage wearing a bold outfit with a green top and yellow skirt, and dramatic makeup

And the entire situation comes after Chappell divided followers when she made two different statements in a bid to establish boundaries with her fans, telling them that it is “creepy” when they approach her in public and ask for photos.

Chappell Roan in a dramatic outfit with a mermaid-style skirt sings energetically on stage. Backup musicians with instruments are in the background

“I don't want whatever the fuck you think you're supposed to be entitled to whenever you see a celebrity,” she said in one of the posts. “I don't give a fuck if you think it's selfish of me to say no to a photo, or your time, or for a hug.”
