All day adventure with many unbelievably memorable stops along the way. Snorkelling Thunderball Grotto was the highlight of my day. My husband loved swimming with the nurse sharks. Our travelling friends loved the swimming pigs and iguanas. The hospitality and professionalism of Captain Robert, Captain William, and Atwique (sp?) made the day worry free and relaxing. The boat was a surprisingly smooth ride on a windy day (18 mph wind).

If you do one thing while in Exuma, book a trip with Robert!! We had an absolutely perfect day on the full day tour of the cays! Beer and rum punch provided, stops at pig beach, iguana island, thunderball grotto, swimming with sharks, the sandbar, a stop for lunch, and several other stops along the way where the crew will point out celebrity’s homes and private islands. A taxi provided by Roberts staff picked us up outside of Sandals resort and then drove us back at the end of the day. Amazing day!!

It was a one of a kind trip! A memorable one! We went to the iguanas fed them, then over to the pigs which was super cool then onto the nurse sharks in compass cay. After that we went we stopped for lunch which was a buffet with a beautiful view. We also saw Pablo Escobar’s sunken plane although the tide was high so couldn’t see much, we also saw turtles, stopped at a sandbank where i found 2 sandollars and lastly snorkled at the mermaid piano which was great. It was just the perfect day thankyou!!🥰🥰💗

We had the time of our life at the tour. Perfect way to se the swimming pigs. Also we enjoyed swimming with small sharks, seing iguanas, diving into the James Bond Thunderball Grotto. We saw turtles, stingrays, the Sandbar and had a great bahimian lunch. We caught a little caribian shower on the way back in the boat but that was just a nice experience. Two points to make. 1) When inquiring, booking and confirming, the correspondence was professional and timely. Keep in mind, it's not easy to respond to emails from the middle of the ocean. I even did two trips (full day swim w/ pigs, etc. and half day fishing charter). 2) The captains and their mates were polite, entertaining, generous, etc. I highly recommend Robert's.

Me and my girlfriend decided to go on a full day excursion and chose Roberts Island Adventures. The experience was an unforgettable one ! 10/10, William and Yellow made the experience worth while, being very informative about the tour and making it fun with beers and gombay smash ! Would highly recommend these guys, won’t regret it.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How long is the full day trip when does it start & end.

From 7 to 8 hours, we start at around 8:30am and return to the starting point between 3:30pm and 4:30pm. More information here If you have to fly in from Nassau and return the same day, we make sure you that you make it back to the airport on time.

How many people will be in the boat?

It depends on the day, sometimes 6, most of the time between 8 and 10, on busy days it's 15 or more. Checkout our fleet for more details

Can we get picked up from our hotel?

Yes we pickup from anywhere on Great Exuma and Little Exuma for an extra fee. We do not pickup from anywhere else including Stocking Island (check with your hotel if they offer water taxi or shuttle to Georgetown)

Can you pick us up from Nassau?

No, we are not based or operate from Nassau, but you can book an early morning flight from (NAS) airport, we come pick you up at Exuma airport (GGT) and drop you off in the afternoon for your return flight, checkout: https://www.bahamasair.com/ and https://www.westernairbahamas.com/ for flights.

 Are drinks included?

All soft drinks, bottled water and alcoholic beverages (Beers, Bahamian Goombay Smash & various liquors) are included and provided all day. 

What should I bring for the tour?

ID, towel, plenty of sunblock, long sleeves shirt or rashguard to protect your skin from sunburns, smart phone or camera. Feel free to bring your own snorkeling gear.

Are snorkel or diving gear provided? If so, which ones?

We provide standard snorkel masks and fins, we have different sizes but we can't guarantee to have sizes for everyone on board. Feel free to bring your own gear.

Does "open seat" simply mean a larger boat with more people?

Open seat means you book per seat in a group tour, it can be a medium sized boat (28ft) or larger boat (38ft+), it all depends on how busy we are on the day you book. We usually know at the last minute because many guests wait until the day before to book. We encourage you to book early and to be flexible in case we have to reschedule the tour due to bad weather or for other operational reasons.

Does the boat have overhead protection, or partial protection, from the sun?

Yes, partial, we recommend bringing long sleeve shirts or rashguards, hats and plenty of sunscreen for extra protection.

What is the order of the stops?

The order depends on the tides and weather conditions, but usually it's as shown here .

Does the tour include sunken underwater plane?

The underwater plane (plane wreck) is on our itinerary, but it's not guaranteed, it is located in an area with a lot of currents and if the tide is not right, we won't be able to stop to see it for safety reasons.

I can't swim, can I do the tour? Do you provide life jackets?

Yes of course, we provide life jackets of all sizes (from age 2) except for infants, feel free to bring a lifejacket for your baby.

Can I pay with card or travelers cheques? What currencies do you accept?

You can only pay with Mastercard or Visa, additional 5% convenience fee applies to cover the cost of card transactions. We don't accept Travelers Cheques. We only accept cash in US dollars and Bahamian Dollars.

Can I book my flight through you?

No, you are responsible for booking your flight directly and also have to arrange transfer to and from airport (in Nassau). Check BahamasAir.com   and WesternAirBahamas.com for flights. We provide roundtrip airport transfers on the island of Exuma

Are there any additional charges?  Is there a stop for lunch?

Landing fee at Compass Cay (Nurse Sharks Stop) is $15 per person (cash only), to be paid directly to the island's staff, it is not mandatory, but if you chose not to pay it, you won't be able to enter the island and you will miss swimming with the nurse sharks, as you will have to wait for the others on the boat.

Yes we stop at Black Point for lunch, there is an extra cost, it's a Bahamian buffet (About $30 per person), look up Deshamon Restaurant .

Are Snacks provided?

Fresh conch salad is prepared and served on the tours, you can also bring along your choice of snacks.

How long do we stay at each stop/attraction?

Minimum 15 minutes but usually around 20 to 30 minutes. The length depends on multiple factors such as how crowded it is when we're there, tides, weather etc...

Typically, when does the "open seat" package sell out?

It depends on the season, but in general, easter, Christmas & new year holidays are the ones that sell out the quickest.

What if weather is bad on booking day? Are we allowed to change the day?

Bad weather for us is wind speeds of more than 17 knots and/or heavy rain. Light rain or drizzle that is localized and limited in time doesn't stop us from going out, because we will be traveling through the Exuma cays and are able to pick our stops based on weather conditions. In case of bad weather, we will let you know a day or two before and we will move your booking to the next day, in case you can't join, we cancel your booking without charging any fees. We constantly monitor data from  Staniel Cay Weather Station for weather forecast.

Why is the price without VAT tax? In Europe, we always get the price including taxes.

That's how it is in The Bahamas and most of north America. It's a common practice even at grocery store, price on the shelve is always excluding taxes which are added later at the checkout before the payment.

What is your cancellation policy?

Is it okay if I’m pregnant

If you're less than 4 months pregnant, it is fine

Is there a bathroom on board?

No, but we make bathroom stops at one of the island whenever needed.

Is there a place to park our vehicle at Barraterre dock?

Yes there is plenty of free parking space nearby and it's very safe.

Experience of a lifetime.

We did the full day tour with coastline after our excursion was cancelled at the last minute by another company. It was our last day in the island so we were so thankful to them that they took us at the very last second. We had the best time ever! We saw so many things from starfishes, to the most beautiful sandbars, Thunderball Grotto, the famous swimming pigs, Iguana island, sea turtles, and more! Neo and Xavien were awesome and really did a great job at making us feel welcome and giving us some fantastic experiences. Thank you for an awesome day and memories that will last a lifetime!

Amazing Time

My husband and I were celebrating our 1 year Anniversary and we did the excursion with coastline! It was such an amazing time! The pick from our location was prompt and driver was so friendly. When we arrived at the location, the service was friendly and efficient. Once the tour started I could tell it would be a great day, the crew interacted with the guests and made us feel like family. The tour gave us the history and current information of all cays as we passed them. My favorite part of the trip was swimming with the sharks. Overall, the trip was safe , fun, informative and amazing! I would definitely recommend this tour! We loved it!!

Best boat rental place on Exuma!

Coastline Adventures is a great company to go on tours through the Exuma they have group or private options and have the best captains! They go through all the most amazing spots like 007 cave, the sand bar, Stanley cay, swimming with the pigs, swim with the nurse shakes and more! I prefer coastline over any resort options! I have used coastline multiple times now while on vacation, so if your want to do the best tour in the exuma’s go with Coastline Adventures!

Fantastic Experience, Friendly Service

Had a great time on the full-day tour. Crew is friendly and organized. Music and included drinks (water, soft drinks, beer and tropical mixed) and speeding over turquoise water definitely hits a vibe. The dock check-in crew is also very friendly and well-organized. The crew strikes a great balance, maintaining a fun vacation vibe while navigating a ton of distance over the water, accommodating tides (Thunderball Grotto is far away and only accessible at low tide), currents and the necessity of getting people back to Georgetown for day’s-end flights.

Your thrilling ride through crystal clear Bahamian waters takes you to your first stop on Allan's Cay, where you will be able to view and feed the protected Allan's Cay Rock Iguana.

Next you will be zipped away on Powerboat Adventures' Trademark Miami Vice run around a few of the cays to your base at Ship Channel Cay.

Watch and learn as our crew show you how we prepare the perfect fresh conch salad. From opening the conch shell to the technique of skinning and dicing the conch meat, ending in a delicious sample for everyone. Informative, fun and very tasty!

Not enough? Take part on the guided tour of Ship Channel Cay. Learn a little about bush medicine and the flora of this remote island. A few more surprises are likely along the way. Good mobility is asset when exploring the island.

Sadly, the time will soon come to head back to the busy bustle of Nassau.

Awesome Experience. In love with Exuma’s Cays

We did the full day tour – it was incredible! I think the swimming the sharks was my favorite. Alex was great with the sharks and they let him hold them. I never thought I’d give a shark a belly rub! They were so curious about the people and gentle. I think my husband like the iguana’s the best! The pigs were crazy! Who knew they could swim?!! It was amazing to see Alex dive for Conch, clean them and then make an amazing Conch salad! I loved how careful Alex was. They didn’t waste anything or litter – the scraps from the Conch were fed to the sharks. I had a great time and felt very safe, even though some of the activities were definitely outside my comfort zone! We saw so much! It was a great day.

As you approach Exuma, the sea turns to the lovely hues of green and blue that most only see in the movies. Pig Beach is the famous beach where the Swimming Pigs live, which is on Pig Island (also known as Big Major Cay ). It is one of over three hundred islands that make up the chain of Exuma Islands, that form the seven hundred island of the Bahamas.

Island Escapes Bahamas Ltd started as a micro business back in 2014 when two young sailors decided to bridge the gap between Nassau Bahamas and the Exuma cays on a daily schedule. This distance covered some 100 nautical miles one way and a little over 200 nautical miles round trip. The feat seemed impossible initially as the only water craft we had access to was just a mere 28 feet in length. In modern day terms, it could easily be classified as a dinghy. The company built its legacy taking 8 passengers along with Captain and Mate over the deep blues of the Atlantic Ocean daily facing treacherous weather and seas until the brand was forced to be recognized on a national scale.

Best Way to Go Swimming With the Pigs in Nassau, Bahamas

I f it's on your bucket list to go swimming with pigs in Nassau, Bahamas here is the best way to have an unforgettable adventure with these adorable animals. Long gone are the days when you used to have to take a 4-hour boat ride or expensive flight to Exuma. Now you can enjoy a much better experience conveniently from Nassau, Bahamas which is the most popular destination in the Caribbean.

What is Swimming with Pigs?

Swimming with the pigs began on the island of Exuma in the Bahamas. it is believed the original pigs either swam there from a shipwreck or where left there intended to be someones food. Either way, for over 20 years they have lived peacefully on the island of Exuma. There are now over 20+ pigs that are native to the island and visited by tourists each year.

Why I don't recommend swimming with the pigs in Exuma

Swimming with the pigs had always been on my bucket list, but here is why I recommend NOT doing this fun adventure on the island of Exuma.

• Distance: Exuma is an uncomfortable 4-hour boat right away or a $200+ hour and a half flight from Nassau, Bahamas. It is not close and can be a very pricey trip.
• Cleanliness: If you ever hear back from those who have visited Exuma to swim with pigs, they will tell you firsthand that the island is covered in Pig feces. You have to be very careful where you step. Better yet, do not go to this island barefoot at any time.
• Safety: The reason the island is so messy is because these are wild pigs. They are not domesticated, tamed, or trained. You can feed them some fruit but there is no way to know how they will behave and I would not bring small children around them. They can knock you down or even bite if you're not careful.

Can You Swim with Pigs in Nassau Bahamas?

Yes, you can now go swimming with pigs in Nassau, Bahamas. Both Rose Island and Pearl Island now offer a swimming with the pigs excursion which is a day trip to their island. Both excursions leave from the Nassau, Bahamas ferry terminal located only 5 minutes from the cruise port and Atlantis Hotel, and about 2 minutes from Paradise Island.

How Far is Swimming with the Pigs from Nassau?

Swimming with the pigs from Nassau, is only a 20-30 minute relaxing boat ride if you are headed to Rose Island or Pearl Island. If you are going to Exuma, a boat ride will be 4 hours, both there and back!

How to Go Swimming With Pigs in Nassau, Bahamas

Luckily, there are more options to go swimming with pigs in Nassau, Bahamas. While there used to be only one pig beach in Exuma, now there are two pig beaches only a short boat ride from Nassau, Bahamas. Both Rose Island and Pearl Island have decided to bring domesticated pigs for tourists to enjoy swimming and interacting with. Below is information on both of these islands. I'm also going to share my personal preference and experience visiting one of these islands.

Rose Island by Sandy Toes

Rose Island is a small private island in the Bahamas run by Sandy Toes. The boat ride from Nassau to pig beach is a quick 25-minute boat ride from the Nassau Island Ferry. Visitors can book a day excursion to the island that includes swimming with the pigs, open bar, extra island activities, and a Caribbean lunch buffet.

Pearl Island

Pearl Island is another small island in the Bahamas that offers the pig beach excursion. It is also only a short 30-minute boat ride from Nassau which offers swimming with the pigs as well as a private beach and other activities. In addition to their swimming with the pigs experience they also offer snorkeling, kayaking, and lunch.

Here's Why I Chose Rose Island to Swim with the Pigs

After reading a ton of reviews on both Cruise Critic and Reddit, I decided to go with Rose Island for a handful of reasons. Here is why I think Rose Island is the best way to swim with the pigs in Nassau, Bahamas. In fact, all the pictures on this post were taken on Rose Island during my adventure.

Book the Rose Island Swimming with Pigs Excursion .

Both Pearl Island and Rose Island are about the same price for a day trip on their islands which is around $189. However, I think Rose Island Provides a better value for the following reasons.

• Rose Island includes an open bar with a wide variety of cocktails available, whereas on Pearl Island you have to pay for those same cocktails.
• Rose Island is much bigger and less crowded. You always have plenty of space. In some areas, you'll even feel completely alone and secluded.
• Both islands offer a nice lunch buffet so this is about even.
• On Rose Island, they bring various pigs out every 30 minutes so you get more time to swim with the pigs and at times there may not even be hardly anyone around.

For me, I think the open bar, more time with the Nassau pigs, and enjoying a less crowded experience with more space to relax on the beach are the things that make Rose Island the better choice.

What is it like to swim with pigs in the Bahamas?

At Rose Island, the Bahamas swimming pigs are trained from babies using clicker training which I use to train my dogs. They are very well cared for and different pigs come out every 30 minutes. While on the island you can take tons of photos as the pigs do cute tricks and pose for pictures with you, even standing up next to you.

You can also call them over by name and feed them various treats. The real fun, however, is getting in the water and swimming with the pigs. At Rose Island, they organize it so everyone gets to do a swimming race with the pigs to see who makes it back to shore first, you or the piggies. Here is a hint, the pigs swim better than you! lol

Are the Pigs Treated Well?

You can tell that on Rose Island the pigs are pampered and well trained. They rotate them every 30 minutes so the pigs are never tired, left out in the hot sun, or overfed. They definitely are not underfed either. All of the staff training the pigs are delightful and you can tell they absolutely love the pigs and treat them the same way I treat my dogs.

More About My Rose Island Experience

In addition to swimming with pigs in the Bahamas, Rose Island also offers guided snorkeling when you arrive and also has kayaks you can rent. There is plenty of space to lounge on the beach or relax next to the bar in a hammock. They even have fun games like cornhole you can play throughout the day.

In addition to pigs, there are also beautiful peacocks all over the island, roosters, and chickens. Rose Island also offers a delicious lunch buffet with BBQ Chicken, Caribbean peas and rice, kale salad, and macaroni salad which is pictured above.

I swam with the pigs on my Holland America Caribbean Cruise. Multiple cruise lines stop in Nassau Bahamas, but not all offer this as an excursion. Most cruise ships offer the Pearl Island excursion such as Royal Caribbean and Norwegian. I recommend purchasing the Rose Island Excursion directly from their site as there are actually many fake excursions that claim to take you to rose island but do not.

In order to swim with the pigs from a Nassau, Bahamas cruise ship port, you need to make sure you are arriving to the port by 8:30am and departing after 4:30pm. This will give you ample time to get to the Nassau Ferry which is a quick 5-minute taxi from the cruise port. Check in time for Rose Island is between 9:15am - 9:30am and the boat leaves prompty at 9:45am.

Once you exit the cruise terminal, there will be men in vests asking if you need a taxi. They will get a group together and you'll take a $5 van taxi to the ferry. Make sure to remind them several times so they don't forget. The Nassau Ferry is before Paradise Island!

Once on the island you'll have the entire day to enjoy yourself. The boat arrived to Rose Island around 10:30am and you will head back to the boat at 3pm.

Rose Island operates very timely and you will be back on shore by 3:45pm. They have taxis waiting right outside. We opted to spend $20 to just take a private taxi back to the cruise port. We were on the ship by 4pm with plenty of time to spare.

Things to Bring When Swimming With The Pigs

Here are a few things you should bring when you head to Rose Island, pictured above, to swim with the pigs.

• Beach Tote with towels. Most cruise ships provide this complimentary.
• Reef Safe Sunscreen
• Waterproof Phone Holder
• Extra Money for gifts, premium alcohol package, and extra activities available.
• ID for check-in and printed ticket
• Hairbrush & hair tie or clip for women
• Water Shoes are optional (though the beach is very clean and I didn't need them)
