Issues Launching a Zoom Meeting via Safari on iOS

safari won't open zoom link

Occasionally, when trying to launch or join a Zoom meeting for a live class via Safari an iOS or iPadOS device, such as an iPhone or iPad, students may run into a common issue where the meeting does not initiate. This is because of how iOS handles pop-up blocking, specifically in Safari.

When you tap the Join Live Class button within your course environment, a pop-up appears behind the scenes, redirecting to the meeting in Zoom. If nothing appears to happen when you tap this button, it's likely that your device is blocking this pop-up. To rectify this:

  • Open the Settings application on your iOS device
  • Navigate to the section for Safari
  • Turn off the toggle for Block Pop-ups

Now, when you attempt to join a live class, Safari will not block the pop-up, and your meeting should successfully launch in Zoom.

Hi everyone. I'm running Safari 15.4, and in the past week, I can't seem to use Safari with Zoom. When I open Zoom, I click sign in with SSO, which should take me to my work sign in page (we sign into Zoom with a SAML connection), where I enter credentials, and then it should ask me to open Zoom so I can start/join meetings. But when Safari is set to my default browser, and it SHOUlD take me to the work sign in page, it doesn't, it just sits there. If I change my default browser to Firefox, everything works fine. I already tried deleting cookies and history, but it didn't help. To make matters stranger, it does the same thing on my iPad Pro as well. It's driving me crazy. Any ideas?

Are there any updates on this? I'm on Monterey 12.5.1 and Safari 15.6.1. I just started having the problem of not being able to log into Zoom on Safari a couple of months ago. I thought it would be taken care of by now (I've been logging in on Firefox) but this is getting annoying. If anyone has any info on this, I'd appreciate it.

Sorry, but it works here since 12.4, so no idea why it work for you.

If Safari isn't loading websites or quits on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If you can't load a website or webpage, or Safari quits unexpectedly, follow these steps.

Connect to a different network

Try to load a website, like www.apple.com , using cellular data. If you don't have cellular data, connect to a different Wi-Fi network , then load the website.

If you're using a VPN (Virtual Private Network), check your VPN settings . If you have a VPN turned on, some apps or websites might block content from loading.

Restart your device

Turn off your device and turn it on again:

Restart your iPhone

Restart your iPad

Restart your iPod touch

Clear website data

You can clear website data occasionally to improve Safari performance:

Go to Settings > Apps > Safari.

Tap Clear History and Website Data.

Tap Clear History to confirm.

Turn on JavaScript

Turn on JavaScript if it's not already on:

Go to Settings > Apps > Safari > Advanced.

Turn on JavaScript.

Get more help

If the issue continues and only affects a certain website or webpage, check if you have Private Relay turned on. You can temporarily turn off Private Relay in iCloud Settings . If Safari still doesn't load websites and you tried all of these steps, contact the website developer for more help.

I don't like using the full-screen zoom where the menu bar disappears, like when you click the green finder window button. I want it to zoom to the full-screen size but leave the menu bar visible. Pretty much every other app, including other Apple apps, will do this when you option-click the green button or click Zoom in the Window menu, EXCEPT Safari. Hi vedaant240 ,

I don't use Zoom, thus I don't know which permission(s) you are having to " allow " each time. With that said, it would be a fair bet that you can accomplish what you are wanting through going to Safari > Preferences > Websites and looking at each of the settings. Look at items such as Camera, Microphone, etc. and change them from Ask to Allow. Do this while you are on the Zoom.us website.
