Premise [ ]

Thousands of special operatives, sent back in time from the future, are tasked with preventing the collapse of society. These operatives, known as "travelers", take over the body of a 21st century individual via a transfer of consciousness; to minimize impact on the timeline, it is performed moments before the person's recorded time of death. The transfer requires the exact location of the target; smart phones and GPS have made this possible only from the early 21st century onward. Prepared using social media and public records concerning their targets, small teams of travelers must maintain their hosts' pre-existing lives as cover while carrying out missions, dictated by their director in the future, aimed at saving the world from a series of catastrophic events. The Director communicates with travelers via pre-pubescent children used as messengers; unlike adults, any child can safely be taken over for a few minutes and then released from control. The show focuses on one team of five travelers, starting from their transfers of consciousness. As the series progresses, travelers affect the present and future in unanticipated ways.

Possible (but unlikely) Season 4 / Travelers 2.0 [ ]

As of Dec 2022, there are no known plans for Season 4, and the show is assumed to be complete. However, in an August 2021 Podcast Conversation between Eric McCormack and Brad Wright , both of them would love Travelers Season 4 to become a reality in the future. In this Podcast, Brad Wright said that he and Eric McCormack had discussed in depth how Season 4 might play out and how it might be able to bring back many of the original cast members. Eric McCormack discussed the idea of season 4 being set a few years later, in which Grant MacLaren had a gray beard. Eric McCormack emphasized to fans that anything is possible (probably because Eric's other hit show Will & Grace was successfully rebooted after an 11-year production gap.)

Travelers Season 3 Ending Explained

Travelers season 3 brought the story of future operatives trying to avoid a cataclysm to an unexpected conclusion — what does it all mean?

This article contains major spoilers for the entirety of Travelers season 3!

Travelers season 3 played a dangerous game in its finale by introducing a reset that could either pay off with an innovative re-imagining of the journey to the “Twenty-First” or alienate viewers by undoing all of the relationships, consequences, and tragic deaths of the past few years.  But perhaps a reset was necessary. Glimmers of doubt had already begun to appear as consciousnesses continued to be sent from the dark future; could there be any hope that the Director would ever succeed in its mission to avoid humanity’s extinction?

Whether you agree with the choice that the writers or the characters themselves made, there are plenty of questions surrounding what really happened in those final moments of the episode. Although some might argue that the finale could serve as series ending if Travelers is not renewed, the possibilities that are left open are as promising as they are disconcerting. Might we see a reunion of our team against all odds, or is the future that Traveler 3468 set in motion too different for that to happen again? Here’s what (we think) we know.

Marcy and David

The scene on the bus at the end of Travelers season 3 may have brought hope to those who would have wished for a happier ending for fallen hero, David Mailer, but was it really happy? This Marcy is not Traveler 3569; this is pre-brain damage Marcy Warton, the nurse. Sure, David may have had a soft spot for the Marcy that ended up in his care, and he does seem to forge relationships with all of his charges — he’s just a nice guy. But the Marcy he fell in love with was from the future, the bad-ass FBI doctor, not the nurse who, in this timeline, never ran afoul of Vincent Ingram a.k.a. Traveler 001.

Ad – content continues below

Now one might say that because this Marcy has more in common with David as one who seeks to help those less fortunate, the match is more suitable, and no one could blame David for starting from a physical attraction in either case. But as a viewer of three seasons of Travelers , is it enough for the social worker to be happy with a Marcy rather than our Marcy? If we agree with Agent Yates’ admonition to MacLaren that his team did more harm than good, then it has to be enough. David’s death, heroic or not, was caused by his involvement with the travelers. Maybe he’s better off this way.

Grant and Kat

The same could be said of Kathryn, who eventually caught on to the fact that her husband Grant was a different person. By naming the exact time and date of her meeting the original Grant, her regrets led to a way out for the failed mission, but they also provided a chance for Traveler 3468 to make amends for stealing his wife’s chance at a happy life. He could easily have started from the beginning and been the only Grant that Kat would ever know, but instead he walked away, allowing Kat to be with John the artist instead of someone who would still have to go on missions in secret.

Interestingly, Kat mentions to the 2001 Grant-reboot that John, who is late for their rendezvous, “gets caught up in his work,” so her marriage may end up being very similar to the one she had with Grant anyway. Perhaps that’s just her type! But does this mean we won’t see Leah Cairns in Travelers season 4? Or Patrick Gilmore from the above example? Creating the need for a restauranteur or social worker could be a challenge in a reset timeline, so this could be a goodbye for two beloved characters.

Helios and 9/11

Grant accomplishes two tasks in the final moments of the episode. The first is to hand an envelope to a young Samantha, the scientist who pioneered the clean energy breakthrough that had to be stopped in episode 8 of season 3, “Archive.” The envelope is emblazoned with the word, “Helios,” referring to the asteroid that was set to collide with Earth in 2018 if not for the intervention of MacLaren’s team in season one. Presumably, Grant’s thinking was that if Samantha was smart enough to create such an efficient means of powering the planet, she could also alert the scientific community about the deadly threat headed their way.

The second thing Grant does is head to the Twin Towers on September 11 to stop the arrival of Traveler 001. Keen viewers will recall that the test case was supposed to arrive in the body of Anthony Corrigan, whom we see here in the finale, but instead ended up in the body of IT guy, Vincent Ingram. How Grant was able to send the vital email when Vincent could not is anyone’s guess, but assuming he was successful in stopping the Director’s failed mission, there’s another question left up in the air…

Did Grant leave the World Trade Center before the devastation began? He looks at his watch and sees that it’s around ten minutes before the first plane hit. Technically, his job is done, and he has no reason to go into Protocol 5 and live out his life. But he does appear to make a move to leave the office before we cut to Marcy and David. Could we end up with a Grant MacLaren who paradoxically remembers the previous timeline in Travelers season 4, should the show be renewed? That actually might be just the catalyst that’s needed to bring more relevance to a soft reboot.

Traveler 001

Presumably, Traveler 001 overwrote the other traveler inside Jeff Conniker after his interrogation but before he was found behind the cinder block wall. While this was a successful attempt to entrap Marcy and acquire her backdoor code to access the Director, the real question surrounds what Jeff meant when, after Marcy kills herself, he said, “The other way is going to take so much longer.” With his consciousness uploaded to the Internet, perhaps his takeover of the future progressed over decades of infiltration.

Does this mean the Faction was always led by a disembodied benefactor that was just as much technology-based as the Director they despised? If so, why bring down the Director who supposedly couldn’t be trusted to fix the future by accelerating the apocalypse? The use of nuclear devices to blind the Director may have been a hostile takeover of the Archives, but it also guaranteed that the future would still be post-nuclear winter with a leader who was just as dictatorial (and artificial) as the quantum AI they defeated. Ironic in the extreme.

Traveler Program Version 2

Fan discussion on Reddit and elsewhere speculates that the first three seasons of Travelers was merely a simulation run by the Director, and we’ve simply been watching the predictive algorithms of an artificial intelligence. The process of watching version one fail could have happened in nanoseconds in the far-flung future before even a single traveler was sent back. How else could the Director avoid the issue of only being able to send consciousnesses back to a point in time after the most recent traveler, making a reboot seem impossible?

Except in this new timeline, the failed mission never even started. Grant’s email ensures that the above question of Traveler 001’s presence in the Internet is completely moot because Traveler 001 as we know him was never sent. Grant may think that delivering the Helios warning and stopping the traveler program was enough to ensure a future in which the Director was never needed, but clearly climate change and other factors will still devastate the planet and necessitate time travel to fix the problem all over again.

So what will version 2 look like? That’s not a question that can be answered here, but is there a plan that can survive contact with the past? Can any iteration of the first traveler ensure that the mission won’t be off-track from the very start? And how can any scenario bring the specific team of Grant, Trevor, Philip, Carly, and Marcy and the actors that play them back together? Like the travelers themselves, we must put our trust in the Director. Or at least a lowercase-d director or two, a crack writing team, and Travelers ‘ executive producers Brad Wright and Eric McCormack.

Until then, Protocol 5, everybody…

Travelers Season 4: Renewal Status & Release Date

Jacob Robinson What's on Netflix Avatar

After that finale do we really have to wait of least another year before a season 4 of Travelers? Speaking of which has Netflix even renewed for a fourth season yet? Let’s find out!

Travelers is a Canadian Sci-Fi show created by Brad Wright. Wright most well-known work is his co-creation of the Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Universe. Travelers was created as co-production between Canadian network Showcase and Netflix. The co-production ended after 2 seasons to which Netflix picked the sole production of the third season.

After a series of mistakes by humanity and numerous natural disasters in the 21st Century, hundreds of years in the future humanity is on the brink of extinction. To write the wrongs of the past humanity in one last-ditch effort create the A.I known as the director. Using historical information the Director can transfer the conscious of those in the future to the minds of those in the past who are about to die. Naming themselves the ‘Travelers’ different teams from around the world attempt to save humanities future.

Travelers Season 4 Renewal Status

Official Renewal Status: Cancelled (Last Updated 12/23/2018)

In February 2019, Netflix canceled the show announcing there would be no season 4 . Here’s the full reaction from cast and crew plus why we believe the show was canceled.

What can we expect of season 4?

It looks like a soft reboot of the team is coming for season 4. With Mac being sent back in time before the arrival of Traveler 001, he was able to send a warning to the director of the traveler program being a failure. But the season ended ominously with the Traveler beginning Version 2 of the Traveler program.

There are some burning questions we have for the next season but it may be unlikely ‘Mac’ will reunite with his original team. Without the influence of Traveler 001, Marcy was never subjected to the experiment that caused her to lose her mind thus fate leads her to meet David.

This doesn’t mean that Marcy isn’t supposed to die, but a bitter twist for the audience could be David dying and a Traveler takes control of him. As for the other remaining teammates it can be expected they will still arrive the same way they were supposed to.

Are fans asking for a fourth season?

You better believe it!

And everyone agrees that we need a season 4! #Travelers @netflix @EricMcCormack — Marcelo #RebelHeart (@marfabsai) December 23, 2018
Just finished #Travelers Season 3 on Netflix and I’m already dying for season 4… that was a hell of an ending… Bravo guys! — Cheeseburger Eddie 😉 (@insideeddie) December 23, 2018
I didn’t know about #Travelers until a few days ago, and I binged 3 seasons in a matter of 3 days! It completely sucked me in! It’s a brilliant show that’s now seeping into my dreams. I love it! Season 4 please @netflix 💙 — Raye (@hannbygidle) December 23, 2018

Travelers Season 4 Release Date

This entirely depends on the renewal date and when production begins. At the earliest we can expect a late 2019 release date but is it more likely to expect the fourth season in early 2020.

'Travelers' Season 4 Release Date Cancelled, but There's Hope for Program 2

Ever since 'Travelers' Season 3 hit Netflix, fans have clamored for news on a Season 4 release date. The update is unfortunate, but there's still hope.

Travelers Season 3 hit Netflix on December 14, 2018, and ever since, fans of the sci-fi series have been clamoring for news on a Season 4 release date . Today, they finally got that news. Unfortunately, it’s that Travelers is cancelled.

Series star Eric McCormack shared the news in a video on Twitter, thanking fans for their overwhelming support. Here’s what he said (emphasis added):

“Hey my fellow travelers. First, let me say a huge thank you for your ravenous response to Season 3 worldwide. it’s been really gratifying for all of us. A lot of you have been asking about the possibility for a Season 4, but many of you have been saying, look if this is it, what a moving and surprising and profound ending it is. Well I’m afraid it is. Who knows what the future holds, but Travelers Program One, as we call it, is complete.

McCormack goes on to thank the fans once again on behalf of everyone involved with the series. You can watch the full video right right:

But what does McCormack mean by “”Program One”? As you probably remember, Season 3 ended with version one of the Travelers Program failing, setting up Season 4 to kick off Program Two. So it’s possible the actor is simply referencing what’s now become the series finale, but he might also be hinting at a future for the series.

Clearly, there was some sort of plan for Travelers Season 4, and it’s possible we could see Program Two play out in the future in a Travelers movie or perhaps on another network if the show gets scooped up.

In the meantime, as McCormack notes, you can always rewatch Travelers Seasons 1-3 on Netflix. And who knows, maybe if enough people stream it all at once Netflix will un-cancel the series.

Review: 'Travelers' Season 3 (and That Ending, Explained)

By Dustin Rowles | TV | December 21, 2018 |

Travelers is such a fascinating series for the way it lives on the periphery of Netflix. It’s one of the streaming network’s most binged series , but it’s also one of the least talked about. The first two seasons were co-produced by Netflix and Canada’s Showcase, and while I have no idea how well the show performed in Canada, clearly it performs well enough on Netflix that the streaming service decided to take it on solo. That’s actually great news for the future of the series, because Netflix decidedly favors originals they produce themselves (rather than those by outside studios, like the Marvel series), and with very little global star power (Eric McCormick is the series’ only well-known star in America) and what looks like relatively inexpensive production values, this show could theoretically run for years.

That’s only valuable, however, if the show continues to be good television, and this third season is arguably its best. It reminds me so much of the Tennant years on Doctor Who for the way it plays with time and other sci-fi tropes, but it never loses sight of the characters and their humanity. The stakes grow exponentially in season three, but the focus remains grounded — nuclear bombs go off in major cities, but our hearts are still with characters like David Mailer, the Rose Tyler of Travelers — a constant reminder of why the Travelers continue to pursue their agenda. They want to save the planet for people like David.

What was so fun about the first season of Travelers was witnessing characters from the post-apocalyptic future take over 21st-century host bodies and try to acclimate themselves not only to the present but in families with which they had little knowledge. It was fish-out-of-water sci-fi: These characters who had spent their lives drinking recycled water and chemically-engineered food got to taste real hamburgers for the first time, but they also had to maintain their covers by learning how to be husbands and wives and sons and girlfriends to people they didn’t know, all the while completing missions designed to save the future of the planet.

The second season, admittedly, lost its way a little, but it found the track again in the third, even as it dug deeper into the mythology of the series. The biggest threat to the Travelers in the third season is the Faction, another set of Travelers who reject the goals of the Director, who is basically an AI computer that devises missions based on algorithms and percentages. The Director believes that if it stops this and this and this from happening in the past, that the future will become a better place. The Faction, however, is made up of Travelers who have come from a future where they have realized that nothing that the Travelers have accomplished has managed to change anything. It’s futile. So, while our sympathies obviously lie with the Travelers, it’s fair to note, at least, that the Faction has a point. The Travelers program has not worked because, as David notes, the only way to save the planet for the future is to convince those in the present to takes steps to preserve it for future generations instead of trying to do it for them.

There’s a lot of infighting among the Travelers and the Faction in the third season — and several present-day authorities who are now aware of the Travelers’ work, including Joanne Yates (Kimberly Sustad), an FBI Agent who also acts as Grant’s partner/handler. I won’t go so far as to say that all the infighting is “noise,” but it’s also not what season three is really about. The focus remains on the characters. The marriage of Grant MacLaren (Eric McCormack) and Kathryn (Leah Cairns) is still on the rocks because Kathryn suspects that Grant is not who he says he is (he’s not). Trevor (Jared Abrahamson) is a very old man living inside a very young body, but he’s having to deal with the mortality of his soul. Carly Shannon (Nesta Cooper) is still dealing with her abusive ex-husband, but that takes an unexpected twist several episodes into season three, leaving her with a new set of circumstances with which to grapple. The drug dependency of Phillip’s host body also wreaks havoc on Phillip, who also has to contend with visions of other timelines.

This season is wise, however, to keep much of the focus on the heart and soul of Travelers , Marcy (MacKenzie Porter) and David (Patrick Gilmore), the latter of whom tries to pick up some super-spy kills after his abduction last year, which eventually leads him into the middle of a mission. I won’t spoil anything except to say that episodes 7-10 reminded me so much of the best episodes of the 10th Doctor and Rose — the love the two have for each other takes center stage even as the world (literally) blows up around them.

Ultimately, some of the sci-fi logistics of The Travelers stumble near the end of the season as things go to hell, but creator Brad Wright papers over those problems with some truly heartfelt moments that keeps the series firmly focused on the humanity of these characters.

And what about that ending? Oh boy.

OK, so, well: Yes. That ending. Like Doctor Who , it was also very Deus ex Moffat — Grant undoes the entire series with a single email. David’s dead, Marcy’s dead, Grant’s wife has left him, Trevor’s about to die, nuclear bombs have gone off in four cities, and everything has gone to complete hell. So, Phillip (Reilly Dolman) devises a plan to send Grant back to Grant’s body years before the Traveler program has even begun, and from the past, Grant sends an email to the Director in the distant future essentially telling him that the Travelers program doesn’t work and to abort it. The Director does so, which means that nothing that happened in the first three seasons ever happened. The timeline has been completely erased, although we clearly see glimpses of the new timeline in Phillip’s visions of alt-timelines (and one of those timelines sees Marcy and David marry!).

The Director, however, does reboot the Travelers Program, Version 2, which means that if the series returns for a season four — and I suspect it will — it can do so with the same characters, or a completely different cast, or a combination of the two (Eric McCormick, who is doing 18 episodes of Will & Grace a year, doesn’t need to do this anymore, and I can imagine a fourth season in which Joanne Yates is the team leader).

It’s a complete reset — the Director is basically doing what Ted Danson does on The Good Place when things go awry — he just starts all over again from the beginning. In some ways, it gives the show the freedom to do anything it wants in season 4. In other ways, it renders it all meaningless, because to the Director, it’s all basically a computer simulation and he can keep trying until he finally gets it right. That would be a lot more frustrating, however, if the show weren’t so good about getting the characters right.

And as for that David and Marcy tag at the end? That at least shows, if season four were to return, that Marcy and David hopefully meet again in Version 2.0. (As some commenters have pointed out, that could be either Host Marcy or Original Marcy, although it being Original Marcy would be slightly upsetting, if only because it illustrates that David was interested in the body instead of the person inside). 'Fellow Travelers' writer Ron Nyswaner on how the series reflects his own story

Ron Nyswaner, screenwriter of the acclaimed Showtime series Fellow Travelers, which takes LGBTQ+ characters from the homophobic hysteria of the 1950s through the AIDS crisis, says it drew partly on his life.

Nyswaner adapted the series from Thomas Mallon’s novel of the same name, adding Black characters and making some other changes. But it reflects his experience as well, he recently told The Hollywood Reporter.

In the seventh episode of the series (spoiler alert) protagonist Hawk Fuller, who married a woman in hopes of hiding his homosexuality, is mourning the death of his son, Jackson, who overdosed on heroin. “The grief that Hawk feels in episode seven has a lot to do with how I responded with drugs and alcohol to the grief of my friend’s death that I write about in my memoir,” Nyswaner said.

The memoir, Blue Days, Black Nights, has been reissued for its 20 th anniversary. Matt Bomer , who played Hawk in the series, “very kindly wrote a beautiful introduction to the reissue, and I’ve written an epilogue to the reissue that talks about Fellow Travelers in relation to my experiences from that period of my life,” Nyswaner told the Reporter.

“It was a moment when I almost destroyed myself with drugs and alcohol,” he said. “It’s also the story of a tragic love affair. … But I am glad I am no longer that person, that I am no longer a slave to alcohol and drugs. I mean, I wouldn’t be here. I didn’t have much longer to live if I hadn’t stopped when I did. But I love the young man that it’s about — the book is about my relationship with this young man, and I still miss him.”

Nyswaner also talked about how important it was to feature Black characters in Fellow Travelers. “In my research into that era, the ’50s, to see that there was this really vital Black journalism — that really inspired me to have a Black journalist character,” he said. That is Marcus Gaines, played by Jelani Alladin. “And because of Stormé DeLarverie, who was this famous drag performer, drag king, which I’d never known existed, she inspired me to create Frankie,” portrayed by Noah J. Ricketts, Nyswaner noted.

“I had a little bit of nervousness about it because, obviously, I’m not Black and there is something about a white creator creating Black characters,” he said. “But I really worked hard to connect with Black collaborators.” He and the rest of the Fellow Travelers team are pitching a spin-off about Marcus and Frankie.

Nyswaner, who was Oscar-nominated for writing the AIDS-focused feature film Philadelphia, is nominated for an Emmy for his work on Fellow Travelers. Bomer and Jonathan Bailey, who played Hawk’s lover Tim, are nominees as well. Nyswaner was nominated in 2016 for Homeland, but, he said, “This nomination feels different in the sense that there’s so much of my life that is in and woven through the story of Fellow Travelers .”

Matt Bomer (left) as Hawk Fuller and Jonathan Bailey as Tim Laughlin in Fellow Travelers.

When Fellow Travelers creator Ron Nyswaner thinks back to filming the series, he chokes up. The tears begin to flow as the writer-producer recalls being on set and making history with a series starring four openly gay actors — playing gay characters — along with four proud LGBTQ executive producers working behind the scenes.

“[ Jonathan Bailey ] said it to the crew on his last night, when he wrapped. I get choked up,” Nyswaner says, pausing for a second as his eyes water. “He said, ‘It’ll never be like this again.’ And that’s how we all felt.”

In Fellow Travelers , Bailey and Matt Bomer star in the roles of Tim and Hawk, male political staffers who fall in love in the 1950s when gay people were considered national security risks and communist sympathizers, alongside Jelani Alladin as reporter Marcus Gaines and Noah J. Ricketts as drag performer Frankie Hines. Nyswaner, Bomer, Daniel Minahan and Robbie Rogers are executive producers on the Showtime series, which also streams on Paramount+, and it’s a show that has resonated with critics and viewers and earned three Emmy nominations, including acting bids for Bomer and Bailey. Nyswaner is nominated for outstanding writing for a limited or anthology series or movie.

“[Tim and Hawk] might be one of the first gay couples to have a television love story played by two out gay actors, [and] that couple being embraced by audiences on social media and now with the Emmys is really, really powerful,” he says.

Nyswaner, who earned an Oscar nomination for writing 1993’s Philadelphia , began working on Fellow Travelers in 2012, when he moved to Los Angeles to dive into the TV world. He went on to write and produce for Homeland and Ray Donovan , and spent the past four years finishing his passion project, which aired late last year.

The series has sparked so much chatter and conversation. What have viewers and fans told you?

I’ve had these extraordinary conversations with people who feel that part of their lives was revealed in a way that they’d never experienced before — whether it was somebody telling me about how she could never quite forgive her father for leaving her mother for a man, and that she wishes he was still alive because now she understands him. You’re making me very emotional today. I had a woman write to tell me that her son had died, and you know Hawk loses a child, and she’d never seen that grief expressed as correctly as it was by Matt in that episode. Those are the things that really move me, that people share their personal lives, that the show moves them to do that.

Did you think Jelani and Noah’s gay Black love story would resonate in the way it did?

I had a little bit of nervousness about it because, obviously, I’m not Black and there is something about a white creator creating Black characters. But I really worked hard to connect with Black collaborators: my writers [Brandon K. Hines], director [Destiny Ekaragha], crew [key hairstylist Antoinette Julien], and with the actors. Jelani kept a journal that he wrote in Marcus’ voice, and he would come into my office every now and then and read me pages from his journal. I am really proud of that part of our show. And we received the [Social Impact] Award from the African American Film Critics Association.

Jelani and Noah’s characters could star in a spinoff.

And we’re going to have all our fans write to Paramount to ask them for it. We’ve been pitching it. They haven’t come through yet, so let’s put the pressure on them.

You made a cameo in Philadelphia as a priest. Did you make a cameo in Fellow Travelers ?

It was cut. I did it in episode five. There’s a part where Hawk takes his brother-in-law to a psychiatric hospital, and I was one of the psych patients. Matt comes in, he looks, he kind of even makes eye contact with me, he has the scene, and he leaves. And we didn’t tell Matt that I was going to be in the scene, so we’re all like, “Did he not notice?”

No. You never know with those things. When the idea comes up and you say, “What if he makes him drink milk and it dribbles down his chin?” — you’re sitting in the writer’s room thinking that’s either going to be really bad or really good. And it turned out to be really good. And it was Johnny who wanted to take the milk away from Hawk and say, “No, Tim’s going to pour it on himself.” He’s beginning to take power, which he does, and he continues to take power in the sex that follows.

It’s the 20th anniversary of your memoir, Blue Days, Black Nights . When you think about writing that, what goes through your mind?

Matt very kindly wrote a beautiful introduction to the reissue, and I’ve written an epilogue to the reissue that talks about Fellow Travelers in relation to my experiences from that period of my life.

Is that something you’d ever adapt for TV or film?

If the right person was interested, I would think about it.

Your first Emmy nomination came in 2016 for Homeland . Does this nomination feel different?

This nomination feels different in the sense that there’s so much of my life that is in and woven through the story of Fellow Travelers . I brought things from my life into the show. The grief that Hawk feels in episode seven has a lot to do with how I responded with drugs and alcohol to the grief of my friend’s death that I write about in my memoir.

It’s a very different experience when you’re watching a television show and you realize, “I actually said those things to some people.” Tim is very much about how I feel about myself. I am a very religious person; it’s odd to be an out gay rights activist and to be a Christian, but it’s not a contradiction, depending on your version of Christianity. If it’s a loving, open-minded, all-embracing Christianity, it’s no contradiction whatsoever. That’s why Fellow Travelers has a special meaning to me: I’m in it.
