The European Tour's Order of Merit winner claims the Harry Vardon Trophy - a prize which was first handed out in 1937

Rory McIlroy poses with the Harry Vardon trophy in 2023

Golfers who ply their trade on the European Tour - or DP World Tour as it is currently known - compete every season to lift the Harry Vardon Trophy.

The prize - initially including the word 'Memorial' in its title - was first introduced in 1937 after six-time Open Championship winner and 1900 US Open champion Harry Vardon died.

Between 1937 and 1979, it was claimed by the Order of Merit champion based on a points system before switching to the highest amount of prize money earned between 1980 and 2012. From 2013 onwards, it reverted back to points.

Since 2009, the Harry Vardon trophy has predominantly been presented to the winner of the DP World Tour's Race To Dubai - with the season-long competition temporarily being titled the DP World Tour Rankings in 2022.

Colin Montgomerie has the most titles with eight, secured in the span of 12 years, and he is two ahead of Seve Ballesteros who claimed all of his between 1976 and 1991.

Reigning Race To Dubai winner Rory McIlroy has five total Harry Vardon Trophy triumphs ahead of England's Peter Oosterhuis, who has four. McIlroy is the favorite to add number six in 2024, however, and has publicly revealed his desire to reach nine crowns one day.

Four players - Lee Westwood, Sandy Lyle, Bernard Hunt, and Bobby Locke - each have four titles while 12 others, including Nick Faldo, Ernie Els, and Berhard Langer, won two.

List of golfers with most European Tour wins explained

This is a list of golf ers who have won eight or more events on the European Tour since it was established in 1972. There are some complications in preparing such a list, and different publications have produced different numbers. This list is based on what the European Tour reports the victories being according to their own player guide (through the 2009 season). [1]

The number of wins a player can accumulate on the European Tour depends in part on how many years he devotes to the tour. There have always been some leading European players or European Tour members from outside Europe who have gone on to play part or full-time on the U.S.-based PGA Tour and cut back their commitments in Europe, and this seems to be an increasing trend. [2]

Detailed criteria

  • Only European Tour sanctioned events are counted. As all elite golfers enter the four major championships and the four (three before 2009) individual World Golf Championships each season it is possible for a player to accumulate eight wins in European Tour sanctioned events without ever joining the European Tour, and Tiger Woods (who has never joined the European Tour) reached that mark in the 2000 Open Championship.
  • The three U.S.-based majors were not designated as European Tour events until 1997, so victories in them before that date were initially excluded. This is in contrast to the list of golfers with most PGA Tour wins , which includes Open Championship wins before that tournament became an official money event in 1995, because they were retrospectively designated as PGA Tour wins in 2002. Sometime prior to 2009, the European Tour made such a retrospective designation with respect to the three U.S. majors, as reflected in their 2009 media guide.
  • Wins in the Wentworth World Match Play Championship before 2003 are not included.
  • The win lists in the player profiles on the European Tour's official site include some miscellaneous items which are not regular individual tour wins and are therefore excluded: wins in 18 hole pro-ams associated with European Tour events; wins in the Volvo Bonus Pool; team wins in the Seve Trophy ; wins on the Challenge Tour and the European Senior Tour .

There are additional players who won eight or more tournaments on the pre-tour European circuit and the European Tour in the period straddling 1972 who are not included on the list.

Many of the players on the list have won many events on other tours and unofficial events. The numbers in the "Majors" column are the total number of major championships the player won in his career whether or not he was a member of the European Tour at the time.

Players under 50 years of age are shown in bold . At age 50, golfers become eligible for the major senior tours, most notably the European Senior Tour and the U.S.-based PGA Tour Champions , competing for substantial prize money against other golfers in that age group. Only Miguel Ángel Jiménez and Phil Mickelson have ever won a European Tour event after turning 50, [3] and only three golfers of that age have won on the PGA Tour since 1975.

Players with the same number of wins are listed alphabetically. This list is up to date through 21 January 2024. [4]

The leading senior tour is the U.S.-based PGA Tour Champions, which was established in 1980. It has established a roster of five major championships. Annabel Dimmock completed her comeback from injury by winning her first Ladies European Tour (LET) title in five years after defeating Pauline Roussin-Bouchard in a play-off at the 2024 KPMG Women’s Irish Open .

English star Dimmock held a two-shot lead at the 54-hole mark and produced a round of 70 (-3) to be in the play-off alongside the Frenchwoman on the O’Meara Course at Carton House.

The duo headed back down to 18 for the play-off and both made pars on the first hole, but on the second hole Roussin-Bouchard took a 3-wood off the tee which went left into the deep rough and she had to scramble and ended up making a bogey.

Coming back from injury

Meanwhile, Dimmock – who has come back from eight months out of the game with a thumb injury – went down the middle of the fairway with her driver and left herself two putts to win as she duly rolled in her two-foot putt to secure her second LET title.

“I am a bit shell-shocked at the minute,” said Dimmock, whose mum is from Cork. “I’m standing here and I think I’m in a dream honestly. I’m just shell-shocked and over the moon right now.

“This is pretty cool to do it in Ireland. It feels really good to do it here. The fans out there and the people watching were amazing to me this week and they really cheered me on. It’s kind of what I needed because I haven’t had an easy couple of weeks.

“I have felt like I have been playing well for a while. The documentary came out a couple of days ago when I shot seven-under, and it was a bit sad and I don’t want it to be a sad story. I have worked really hard to get myself back and I am proud of myself.

“It’s not just me, there’s a lot of people on my team, there’s Alfie and all my friends at home and family. There’s a lot that goes back into getting me fit, a lot of blood, sweat and tears. It’s not been easy for my family and everyone around me, but we’ve made it back, we’re good.”

Annabel Dimmock's final round

Dimmock got off to a good start on the final day as she made birdies on her first two holes but dropped a shot on the 12 th hole.

A birdie on 13 saw her just one shot behind Roussin-Bouchard and she rolled in another birdie on 17 for her round of 70 (-3) and to finish alongside the Frenchwoman on 19-under-par.

She continued: “Today was actually quite tough. I was struggling to get the ball in the hole. I got off to a good start and then I struggled a little bit, it didn’t feel quite as good. After shooting seven-under, eight-under, it felt like I was having a chop, but I wasn’t.

“Ursula [Wikstrom] was chasing me who was in the group with me today and I looked over at the board at 15. I didn’t really all day and then I looked and saw Pauline was doing well. I know she’s a great player, I played in the play-off with her in Jabra when I won which was five years ago. That’s incredible.

“At the last, Pauline hit it a touch left, and I was thinking just play it safe in the middle of the green and then I got up there and I thought oh my gosh I have such a long putt here. I hit a good putt and playing safe paid off there.”

Roussin-Bouchard in search of third LET title

Roussin-Bouchard began the day in outright fifth place and made three birdies on her front nine to move herself up the leaderboard.

The Frenchwoman continued to pepper pins rolling in four birdies in a row on holes 10 thru 13 to put herself in a share of the lead.

Another birdie on 15 put the two-time LET winner into the solo lead but she then three-putted on 16, however she soon bounced back with a birdie on 17.

The 24-year-old saved par on 18 to card a round of eight-under 65 and seal the clubhouse lead on 19-under-par before losing out in the play-off.

“It was just good golf all around,” said Roussin-Bouchard. “I missed a few opportunities, but I made others. It was great.

“I went for it in that play-off. You try things, sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn’t. Whatever is supposed to happen will happen anyway, it’s Murphy’s law.

“It’s a lot of positives. A couple of months ago I really hit a low point, and I was just appreciating about having the opportunity and being up there on the leaderboard and not starting from the bottom.

“I am a competitor, and I am a fighter and I wish I had won that play-off, but Annabel fought her way back as well. It was a beautiful win because she played amazing all week and having her father on the bag is also very special.

“I’m happy for the both of them. It was a happy week because my parents joined. There will be plenty of opportunities especially if I keep playing like that.”

The rest of the field

Finland’s Ursula Wikstrom finished her consistent week with another round of 69 (-4) for a total of 18-under-par and to miss out on the play-off by one shot and end the week in third place.

Switzerland's Chiara Tamburlini finished in outright fourth place on 17-under-par after firing a round of 65 (-8) on the final day.

The LET rookie was bogey-free rolling in eight birdies including two in the last two holes to seal her lowest-ever tournament round of eight-under.

Four players finished the week in a share of fifth place with Thailand’s Trichat Cheenglab, Hong Kong’s Tiffany Chan, Australia’s Kirsten Rudgeley and Italy’s Alessandra Fanali all on 14-under-par.

Sweden’s Linnea Johansson was ninth on 13-under with England’s Lily May Humphreys and Slovenia’s Katja Pogacar one shot further back in T10.

In the LET Order of Merit, there is a new leader at the top of the standings with Tamburlini now in first place with 1,373.44 points to her name.

With her second-place finish, Roussin-Bouchard is now in 12 th place and Dimmock has jumped up the standings from 134 th to 36 th place.

Next up for the LET is the Solheim Cup which takes place at Robert Trent Jones in Gainesville, Virginia from 13-15 September .

Some of the key pga tour statistical categories where scottie scheffler ranked first in 2024, share this article.

most european golf tour wins

Scottie Scheffler’s 2024 PGA Tour season will go down in the record books as one of the best.

In fact, he entered rarified air this year, drawing comparisons to some of the best seasons ever by one of the best golfers, Tiger Woods.

Scheffler remains atop the standings in the Official World Golf Ranking. He finished the year first in the FedEx Cup standings after winning the Tour Championship. He’s leading the U.S. team standings for the upcoming Presidents Cup .

Aha. Found one. He’s second to Xander Schauffele in the latest U.S. team standings for the Ryder Cup.

All kidding aside, that’s one of the few things Scheffler is not No. 1 in 2024. Here are the main categories where he did finish first.

PGA Tour stats guru Justin Ray has a good one.

Fewest days between 1st and 13th career PGA Tour wins, since 1960:

  • Scottie Scheffler: 931
  • Jack Nicklaus: 1,029
  • Tiger Woods: 1,113
  • Johnny Miller: 1,225

“It’s been a great year. I’m proud of the results,” Scheffler said after the Tour Championship. “It’s something I try not to focus too much on, but at the end of the day, being able to win tournaments is a great feeling, and it’s what we work towards, and to be able to have as many wins as I have this year is really special.”

Scottie Scheffler caps stunning season with £19m win at Tour Championship to seal FedEx Cup title

most european golf tour wins

Scottie Scheffler capped a remarkable season as he won the Tour Championship in typically ruthless fashion.

The world number one carded a final-round 67 to finish four shots clear of Collin Morikawa and take the FedEx Cup title, with Sahith Theegala two shots further back in third.

Scheffler took home more than £19million for his victory, his seventh on the PGA Tour this season to go with a gold medal at the Paris Olympics. The 28-year-old won The Masters in April, having defending his Players title at TPC Sawgrass.

Rory McIlroy finished in a tie for ninth, along with Hideki Matsuyama and Shane Lowry, while Robert MacIntyre shared 17th after a superb round of 64 to close his PGA Tour season.

As a result of leading the FedEx Cup heading into the season-ending event, Scheffler started at ten-under in Atalanta, two shots ahead of nearest rival Xander Schauffele.

Morikawa was the man in closest pursuit as the leaders teed off on Sunday, but a bogey on the opening hole swiftly extended Scheffler’s lead to six shots.

There was a wobble, though, from Scheffler, as he dropped a shot on the seventh and then shanked a bunker shot on the eighth, his lead suddenly cut to just two.

"I was a bit frustrated because it was quite a basic shot but I've shanked it from a similar lie before," Scheffler said.

"Ted [Scott, Scheffler's caddie] did a good job of helping me reset, and then I did some really nice stuff to finish this tournament off."

Three straight birdies followed than shank, backed up with an eagle on the par-five 14th, allowing Scheffler to ease towards the finishing line. Four pars on the bounce closed out victory, the American finishing on 30 under and, as has become familiar, in a league of his own.

Including all prize money and bonuses, Scheffler earned more than £47m on the course this year, with his seven wins the most in a year since Tiger Woods matched that tally in 2007.

There had been some debate heading into the Tour Championship as to who had enjoyed the better season, with Schauffele’s two major victories edging him above Scheffler in the eyes of certain observers. After another week of Scheffler domination, that question has surely been answered.

Breakthrough DP World Tour win just the start for Denmark's Niklas Nørgaard

By Mathieu Wood

After fulfilling a lifelong ambition, Niklas Nørgaard can look ahead to realising new goals as he assesses how to capitalise on the springboard his victory at the Betfred British Masters hosted by Sir Nick Faldo provides him.

At the age of 32, he overcame the inevitable pressure that is attached with vying for a maiden DP World Tour title to land his breakthrough triumph after a tense finish at The Belfry on Sunday.

In doing so, he climbs from 205th to a new career-high world ranking of 114th, rises to sixth on the season-long DP World Tour Rankings in Partnership with Rolex, and jumps to the top of the European Ryder Cup Rankings for next year’s event at Bethpage.

With his win, in his 81st DP World Tour appearance, N ø rgaard also gains an immeasurable amount of belief in what else he can go on to achieve.

“Since I was ten years old, when I started playing golf, it [the DP World Tour] is what I have always been watching on TV," he told the DP World Tour.

“I have had such a slow career, but always becoming a little better every year. I have not won on the Challenge Tour, not won anything here, and then to win this tournament is quite special.”

Niklas Norgaard-2169758090

As he alludes to, silverware on the DP World Tour has been worth the wait.

Having turned professional in late 2015, he won the order of merit on the Nordic Golf League in 2019 to earn promotion to the Challenge Tour, from which he earned promotion to the DP World Tour in 2021.

Quite simply, winning is hard.

“I had to call my mental coach this morning,” added N ø rgaard.

“When you hold a four-shot lead, it feels like you have to protect something, and I didn’t want to do that. I wanted to play for something, really.”

Nerveless throughout his brilliant eight-under-par 64 on Saturday to earn a four-shot lead, N ø rgaard had to did deep down the stretch in the final round.

With a four-shot lead with four holes to play, he looked set to realise a lifelong dream without any undue stress. Far from it, though.

After finding the greenside rough in two at the par five 15th, N ø rgaard hit three poor chips in a row, before eventually carding a seven to cut his lead in half.

A nine-foot par putt at the 16th helped him stay two ahead, moments after playing partner Lawrence missed a good birdie chance.

"I was nervous, but not that nervous. That was purely just chipping badly," said N ø rgaard of his seven at the 15th.

What have we just seen?! 🫣 Niklas Nørgaard makes a double-bogey and now leads by just two. #BetfredBritishMasters pic.twitter.com/bApNV0q88B — DP World Tour (@DPWorldTour) September 1, 2024

N ø rgaard then showed his resolve to get up and down from a greenside bunker at the par-five 17th for a birdie to retain his two-shot advantage as he was matched by closest pursuer Lawrence.

Then came what he describes as his best shot of the day. A trademark bullet drive onto the fairway at the 18th – the hardest hole all week.

“Getting that shot onto the fairway and then putting it onto the green was a big relief,” he added.

A week on from the Danish Golf Championship, where two Danes finished in the top five, N ø rgaard becomes Denmark’s newest champion on the DP World Tour.

It is also a landmark 50th win by a Danish player on the DP World Tour.

By lifting the trophy, N ø rgaard becomes the 13th player to win their maiden DP World Tour title this season, and the second Dane to win on the 2024 Race to Dubai after Thorbjørn Olesen at the Ras Al Khaimah Championship in January.

In a sign of the togetherness among golfers from Denmark, N ø rgaard was met by a host of his countrymen and fellow DP World Tour winners, including eight-time winner Olesen and third-placed Rasmus Højgaard, as he was showered with champagne.

A week on from saying Danish golf was in "dreamworld" , Thomas Bjørn can only have helped allow himself a smile as Nørgaard emulated him and Olesen as a winner of the historic British Masters.

While Danish golf has become the envy of many countries in world golf over the past decade, with its depth of talent, Nørgaard is their first first-time winner in almost three years, when Jeff Winther won the Mallorca Golf Open towards the end of the 2021 season.

With his victory, Nørgaard becomes the 13th player - and third in succession - to win their maiden DP World Tour title this season,

More notable, however, is the fact he has made the dream start to the Ryder Cup qualification process for next year's contest when Europe will target victory on U.S. soil for the first time since the 'Miracle at Medinah' in 2012..

Is being on Luke Donald's team an ambition of his?

"100%, someday, he replied. "This is a pretty good start. But my goal from the beginning of the season was just to get to the final in the Dubai (the DP World Tour Championship).

"Goals can move and adapt. But of course it (making the European Ryder Cup team) would mean the world. But one step at a time, we have just started it [the process], so we will see."

After climbing 30 spots on the DP World Tour rankings with his win, he can get ahead and book his flights to the UAE, with a debut appearance in the season climax at the Earth Course in November on the horizon.

Norgaard

With 10 events left in the season, he is now also the holder of a PGA TOUR card for 2025.

And in a sign that only highlights the emotional toll that must come with winning an elusive title, he has opted not to play at the Omega European Masters this week.

Instead, we are next set to see Nørgaard tee it up again in the Amgen Irish Open, prior to the BMW PGA Championship - the upcoming Rolex Series event - at Wentworth Club.

"Just getting over the line is such a big thing to prove to yourself," he said. "I proved that to myself today (Sunday) with my caddie (Kasper Broch Estrup) that we can do it.

"There is a huge difference between being number two and winning. It is something I would hope for everyone to try, because it is a really cool feeling."
