15 Best Things to Do in Protaras (Cyprus)

Protaras is Ayia Napa’s laid-back neighbour: It’s a resort for those who want those sublime beaches on the southeast coast of Cyprus without the thumping nightlife.

And when it comes to sun and sand you’ll be spoiled rotten, as white sandy bays and hidden coves make up the entire coastline here, only interspersed by rocky headlands that make for superb walks.

The warm, aquamarine seas off the coast are a dream for water sports and on land you can get in the car to track down any number of historic sites and family attractions in the vicinity.

1. Church of St. Elias

Church of St. Elias

Moments from the centre of Protaras is this church that you can spot from miles around.

Built in the 80s, St. Elias roosts atop a 100-metre hill that you can scale via a 150-step stairway. It’s not a challenge to take lightly, especially in the summertime, but once you get to the top you’ll know what the fuss is about.

The vistas are dreamlike and extend over the town and out to the sea beyond. Take a moment in the garden up here to look at the trees of remembrance, onto which locals tie ribbons to remember loved ones.

2. Fig Tree Bay

Fig Tree Bay

Protaras’ main beach, Fig Tree Bay is typical of the coastline on the east side of the peninsula: It’s a fabulous sweep of powdery white sand served by rows of sun loungers beneath shades.

As its right next to the town, Fig Tree Bay can get busy in summer, but that won’t matter, because it’s the sea that makes this beach great.

The waters are phenomenal, as about 50 metres offshore there’s a small island that separates the beach from the open sea.

This creates a long and broad expanse of waist-high water, so clear that you can see each grain of sand on the seabed!

3. Cape Greco

Cape Greco

The whole southeastern tip of Cyprus is a natural park and one of the island’s great beauty spots.

You can tackle the cape on land or by water, and both methods will get you close to the cinematic scenery.

On foot, you’ll follow trails up to view point that looks out over the rest of the headland and the deep blue Mediterranean.

From the water you hop between the yawning cavities chiselled from the rock by sea currents.

Further along are other strange rock formations, including a natural arch that you can swim beneath on calm days.

Cypriot Meze

Around Protaras and Ayia Napa you’ll have a host of international cuisines on your doorstep.

But during your trip you simply have to get down to a local taverna to try a traditional Cypriot meze.

This isn’t a small affair; meze in Cyprus is a full-blown meal made up of little platters, each more enticing than the last.

The usual order is something like: Olives, bread with dips (humus, tahini and taramasalata), then kalamari, grilled vegetables and halloumi.

After this you can tuck into kebabs and roasted lamb, or chargrilled fish, depending on your choice. All this fare goes great with a local Cypriot wine produced in the mountainous Troodos region.

5. Sirena Bay

Sirena Bay

Many people only come across this hidden beach by accident after tracing the coastal path, and you can easily miss it from the road.

Sirena Bay is a thin arc of sand and shingle hemmed by vegetation and overlooked by a friendly waterfront taverna.

The dense thicket that encircles the narrow sands means there’s no need for sunshades here, and the serene and shallow waters are just right for swimmers.

Diving in Protaras

From March to November, Cyprus has a dive season longer than anywhere else in Europe.

This is down to the island’s latitude, which grants it comfortably warm waters for much of the year.

The southeastern side of Cyprus is also where a lot of the diving action happens, and a host of PADI-approved companies operate in Protaras and Ayia Napa.

If you’re a newcomer it’s the perfect chance to learn the essentials.

And if you’re experienced you’ll be in heaven, swimming with turtles and rays through the canyon off Cape Greco, or exploring the wreck of the MS Zenobia, which went down off Larnaca Bay in 1980 – with no casualties.

7. Ayia Napa

Ayia Napa

If you’re in your late-teens or twenties and want to let your hair down Ayia Napa is just a quick cab ride away.

It’s long been known as one of the Mediterranean’s liveliest party places, and attracts young people from across Europe.

Clustered around the town’s square are many of Ayia Napa’s 80 bars and 12 nightclubs, most bouncing ’til dawn seven days a week in summer.

The craziest time of year is late-June to early-August, but there’s still plenty going on in the fringe seasons. Also see: Best things to do in Ayia Napa.

8. Ayia Napa Monastery

Ayia Napa Monastery

Despite its reputation, Ayia Napa isn’t all about wild nightlife.

In the heart of the town is this lovely Venetian monastery that is much the same today as it was 500 years ago.

The limestone walls of the monastery’s church, cloisters and flour mill are standing strong, and have been joined by a new church constructed in 1990 when Ayia Napa’s congregation grew too large for the old one.

Couples who are having trouble conceiving a child come to touch the statue of the Virgin Mary here, claimed to be responsible for several local childbirth miracles!

9. Nissi Beach

Nissi Beach

South of Protaras is Ayia Napa’s liveliest beach. There’s fun all afternoon at Nissi, with a non-stop beachfront party in the summer.

And if you’re up for it you can even make for the headland on the west side of the bay to try cliff-diving.  For everyone else Nissi Beach is a beautiful place to spend lazy days by the sea.

The white sands are soft and powdery, the waters are clear and shallow, and there’s no shortage of facilities on hand.

10. Konnos Bay

Konnos Bay

On the way down to Cape Greco you’ll stumble upon this fabulous natural beach.

What makes Konnos Bay so lovely is the way the cove is defended from both the wind and sea currents by headlands that act as a barrier to the elements.

If you’re on holiday with kids then this beach is just what you’re looking for as the tranquil sea is great for the smaller members of your family to splash about in.

Stronger swimmers can bring snorkelling gear to see what they can find under the bay’s rippling waves.

11. Parko Paliatso Funfair and Luna Park

Parko Paliatso

Depending on your disposition one look at Parko Paliatso’s world-famous slingshot will set your heart racing or send shivers down your spine.

Riders enter a capsule to be flung in to the air at high speed by a bungee rope-powered catapult. It’s the highest ejection seat ride in Europe apparently.

A little less hair-raising is the ferries wheel, which stands 45 metres above the park and at the top of your orbit will give you superb views. Try to take a ride at sunset.

12. Day trip to Famagusta

Famagusta

In Ayia Napa and Protaras you can find several tour operators to take you across the Green Line to the port city of Famagusta.

There are plenty of reasons to make the trip, not least to see the Lala Mustapha Pasha Mosque, another melange of gothic Christian and Islamic architecture.

It was a cathedral before the Ottomans took over in the 1500s. Also highly recommended is Othello Castle, which is believed to have inspired the Shakespeare play.

Even if this isn’t true the castle is a striking piece of Venetian military design that was recently restored to its former glory.

13. Varosha

Varosha

If you’re going to Famagusta you should definitely make time for this ghost town on the south side of the city.

After the Turkish invasion in the 1970s the entire population of one the area’s top resorts fled, and Varosha has remained abandoned ever since.

Unfortunately you can’t enter the resort to see its crumbling towers up close, but you can get some excellent distance shots from the bay.

What catches the eye is the way nature is reclaiming the city in the absence of people: Loggerhead turtles have even started nesting on the beach again.

14. Horseback riding

Horseback Riding in Cyprus

If you visit Protaras in March or April the hills around the resort are awash with the many colours of wildflowers in bloom.

The poppies are particularly vibrant, with shades ranging from yellow to deep red.

The spring season is a fine time to be out and about and a great way to enjoy the countryside is on a horseback tour. The Moonshine Ranch is on the outskirts if Protaras and offers lessons and allows you to hire horses by the hour.

15. Cypriot Coffee

Cypriot Coffee

Even on the cosmopolitan east coast you can sample some Cypriot specialities. Try coffee: In Cyprus a cup of brew percolates on a stove inside narrow copper jug with a long handle so the person who prepares it isn’t burned.

Ground coffee and sugar are mixed with cold water even before the jug goes on the stove. So what you get is a simultaneously powerful and sweet drink, with a syrupy consistency.

When you’ve finished there will be a bitter residue at the bottom of the cup that you probably shouldn’t drink!

Last Updated on December 20, 2021 by Nick Sanna

Protaras sandy beach scene

About Protaras

Protaras is part of the little town of Paralimni on Cyprus’ southeast coast. It is one of the island’s most popular summer destinations. It boasts excellent beaches with pure waters , from secluded bays to extensive stretches of white sand. It’s Ayia Napa’s laid-back neighbor, with white sandy bays and secret coves that run the length of the coast, only broken up by rocky headlands that make for great treks.

Furthermore, the numerous restaurants, scenic taverns, trendy bars, classic pubs, and laid-back cafes make Protaras an ideal resort town for winding down and enjoying the languid summer days.

Protaras is one of the most popular places in Cyprus for families traveling with young children or couples searching for a romantic holiday, thanks to its beautiful beaches and calm environment. The peaceful beaches are ideal for people who want to have some summer pleasure while avoiding the other nearby beaches’ boisterous, often overwhelming nightlife.

When Is the Best Time to Go to Protaras?

May and June and September and October are ideal for visiting Protaras. You will find more incredible deals, fantastic weather, and great spots on any beach during these two seasons.

July and August are peak vacation months for locals, and Protaras is their preferred vacation destination. High rates, high temperatures, and crowded beaches, restaurants, pubs, clubs, and streets are all to be expected.

Top 10 Things to Do in Protaras

Are you planning a vacation to Protaras soon? Don’t miss out on all of the fun things to do in this summer haven! Take a look at our recommendations for the best things to do in Protaras, Cyprus!

1. Relax at Fig Tree Bay

A trip to Protaras would not be complete without a pleasant day at the beach!

Fig Tree Bay, one of Protaras’ most popular resorts, offers soft, fine sand and mild, blue waves, with top-notch amenities and a stunning seaside location. You may relax by the beach and soak up some sun, or you can try your hand at fishing, snorkeling, boating, or other fascinating outdoor sports.

The waters are spectacular, as a tiny island divides the beach from the open sea around 50 meters away. This creates a large expanse of waist-high water so clear that every grain of sand on the seafloor can be seen.

Fig Tree Bay is also conveniently located near various stores and local entertainment, giving it an excellent starting place for anybody anxious to discover the city!

2. Take in the Scenery at Cape Greco

If you prefer sightseeing and a little outdoor adventure, then Cape Greco is a must-see on your next visit to Protaras. Cape Greco is famous for its breathtaking views of nature and historical landmarks.

You can reach the cape by land or water, and both routes will put you close to its movie-like beauty. On foot, follow trails up to a viewpoint that offers views of the rest of the headland and the deep blue Mediterranean. You can hop between the hollow cavities chiseled out of the granite by sea currents from the water.

Other unusual rock formations may be found further along, including a natural arch that you can swim beneath on calm days. Around the area, there are several natural paths to explore, the Roman ruins at Kyrios and the sea caves below.

If you can visit Cape Greco, it is a sight to behold. Just remember to dress appropriately and carry plenty of water to stay hydrated!

3. Offer Your Prayers at St. Elias Church

The Church of St. Elias, also called Profitis Ilias, is another must-see religious attraction in Protaras.

St. Elias was built in the 1980s, and it sits atop a 100-meter hill that may be reached through a 150-step stairway. Although the church as we currently know it was erected in the early 1980s, the ground on which it was built had previously been home to another church.

The church is difficult to reach due to its location at the top of a hill, especially in the summer. Still, once you get to the summit, you’ll understand why everyone is so excited. It’s certainly worth the effort because of the fantastic vistas.

The views are breathtaking, spanning the entire town and out to the sea beyond. Take a look at the trees of remembrance in the garden up here, where locals tie ribbons to remember loved ones.

4. Take a Swim in Sirena Bay’s Waters

If you want to wow your sweetheart on your next trip to Protaras, a visit to Sirena Bay is the place to go!

Many visitors only discover this secret beach by accident when following the coastal walk, and it’s easy to miss from the road. Sirena Bay is a sliver of sand and shingle hemmed in by greenery and guarded by a welcoming waterfront tavern.

You may relax on the fine sand while taking a plunge in the calm, crystal-clear waters. Because trees border the beach, there are plenty of relaxed and peaceful locations to enjoy a great walk or simply take in the scenery together. Sirena Bay is where to go if you want to find peace and tranquility in nature.

At the end of the day, you can round off your beach trip with a delicious dinner and drinks at a traditional beach-side restaurant and bar, which is easily accessible from the beach.

5. Ayia Napa

Ayia Napa, known for its magnificent nightlife, is located on Protaras’ east coast and features excellent sandy beaches with crystal clear turquoise water. The resort also offers a variety of thrilling activities for families.

Ayia Napa is just a short cab ride away if you’re in your late teens or twenties and want to let your hair down. It’s long been recognized as one of the liveliest party spots in the Mediterranean, attracting young people from all across Europe.

Many of Ayia Napa’s 80 pubs and 12 nightclubs are centered on the town’s square, with most open till dawn seven days a week throughout the summer. Late June to early August is the busiest time of year, but there’s still plenty to do in the off-seasons.

Ayia Napa has a plethora of businesses selling anything from souvenirs and beachwear to jewelry and brand label goods, in addition to the beautiful beaches and vibrant nightlife.

6. Nissi Beach

The busiest beach in Ayia Napa is located south of Protaras. The beach is exceptionally stunning – smooth and golden with crystal clear water.

Because it is so large, there is a peaceful end for those who want to relax in peace and quiet. On the other hand, it is a more entertaining stop for those who want to listen to music/DJs or visit the bar while on the beach. At Nissi Beach, you may have a good time all afternoon, with a nonstop beachfront party in the summer.

If you’re feeling adventurous, you can even try cliff-diving off the west side of the bay’s promontory. Nissi Beach is a lovely area to spend relaxing days by the sea for everyone else. You get to take pleasure in the beautiful sandy beach with lounge chairs and snack bar, as well as several lovely open-air dining spots with stunning views of the sea.

Different water activities, such as catamarans and jet skis, are also available. This location also offers a seaside water park with various inflatable toys that provide fantastic entertainment for parents and children. During the summer, a lifeguard patrols this beach line. This beach is ideal for various people, including alone travelers, relaxation seekers, and others. However, during the peak season, it can get a little congested.

7. Ayia Napa Monastery

Ayia Napa isn’t just about the raucous nightlife, despite its image. It also has a rich history, including the archaeologically noteworthy Ayia Napa Monastery (dedicated to the Virgin Mary).

This incredible Venetian monastery, which is much the same today as it was 500 years ago, is located in the middle of the town, making it easily accessible to everyone. The church, cloisters, and flour mill of the monastery are all made of limestone and are joined by a new church built in 1990 after Ayia Napa’s flock outgrew the previous one.

Couples having difficulty conceiving a child come here to touch the Virgin Mary statue, which is credited with multiple local childbirth miracles! If you enjoy historical landmarks, the Ayia Napa Monastery is a must-see.

8. Parko Paliatso Fun Fair

One look at Parko Paliatso’s world-famous slingshot can either make your heart race or send shivers down your spine, depending on your mood. The funfair is Cyprus’ most prominent, with a 30,000 square meter land area and a parking lot that can accommodate up to 300 cars at a time, with almost 25 distinct attractions throughout the park.

Riders board a capsule catapulted into the air at high speeds by a bungee rope-powered catapult. According to reports, it is Europe’s highest ejection seat ride. The Ferris wheel, which sits 45 meters above the park and provides spectacular views from the top of your orbit, is a little less nerve-wracking. Take a ride at sunset if possible.

The cost of rides varies. There is plenty of parking at the park, with two eateries.

9. Konnos Bay

You’ll come across this fantastic natural beach around 4 kilometers east of Ayia Napa and 2 kilometers north of Cape Greco. The beach is known for its golden-white sand and varied tints of the blue sea.

The Konnos beach is roughly 200 meters long. It includes all of the amenities you’ll need, including loungers and umbrellas, as well as restrooms and a beach bar with live music all day. The way the cove is protected from both the wind and sea currents by headlands that function as a barrier to the elements makes Konnos Bay so beautiful.

If you’re on vacation with children, this beach is ideal since the calm sea is ideal for splashing around in for the younger members of your family. In addition, the excellent swimming conditions with little to no waves make it a favorite family beach.

If sunbathing becomes too monotonous, go snorkeling or participate in one of the many watersports offered. Snorkeling is enjoyable, and you may see a variety of fish. In addition, the visibility is incredible, with crystal clear sea and hardly any waves.

10. Varosha

If you’re visiting Famagusta, you should definitely stop through this ghost village on the city’s south side.

The entire population of one of the area’s top resorts fled after the Turkish invasion in the 1970s , and Varosha has remained abandoned ever since. Varosha was a thriving resort town with sky-scraping hotels, fashionable retail areas, and sandy beaches commonly referred to as the greatest in Cyprus before the 1974 split of Cyprus.

Although you can’t go inside the resort to witness the falling towers up close, you can capture amazing long-distance shots from the bay. The way nature is recovering the city in the absence of people is striking: loggerhead turtles have even resumed nesting on the beach.

Summers are sometimes best spent kicking back, relaxing, and getting away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. You can experience a laid-back summer in Protaras by seeing its gorgeous landmarks, swimming in its refreshing seas, relishing in all the great food and drink on offer, and having some family-friendly fun with your loved ones.

On your next trip to this casual but beautiful summer resort, make sure to check out these incredible places and must-do activities!

When it comes to visiting Cyprus, there may be more choices to make than you’d originally suspect. Cyprus is a 9,251 km2 island – almost thirty times the size of Malta, another popular Mediterranean island destination. You’ll find lots of variation across Cyprus, so consider where to choose to stay carefully. One common dilemma is choosing between Paphos or Protaras.

Paphos and Protaras are both popular destinations in Cyprus. Paphos is a city in West Cyprus, while Protaras is a resort in the East. Aside from these obvious differences, both areas can appear quite similar. Whether you choose Paphos or Protaras, you’ll have nightlife, beaches, and sunny weather . However, each destination gives a different experience, so it is good to examine them more closely.

To save you time, we’ll evaluate whether you should choose Paphos or Protaras for you. We will weigh up a winner for each important holiday factor, from beaches to things to do.

Table of Contents

Paphos or Protaras: Things to do

Nea Paphos.

When choosing Paphos or Protaras based on things to do, be aware that they offer different styles and types of attractions. Paphos is best to visit if you want history and archeology, while Protaras is best if you want lighthearted entertainment like watersports.

Paphos has the Archaeological Site of Nea Paphos, which is full of Roman mosaics and ruins. It also has the Tomb of the Kings, a necropolis where important officers and their families were buried over 2,500 years ago.

Paphos does have Luna Park and a Go-Karting Center for lighthearted entertainment, so it isn’t just historical attractions! You’ll be able to try out some watersports too, as the town is set on the coast and has a handful of good beaches.

Protaras has one historical site called Profitis Ilias, a small stone church with scenic views over the ocean. Otherwise, the resort’s things to do are more fun than informative. You’ll find a mini-golf course called Star Leisure, a Blue Lagoon for swimming, more watersports than you could try out, and sea caves for pretty pictures.

Our Winner:  It depends on what you are interested in and what you want from your trip. However, our winner for this round is Paphos, as it has more impressive historical attractions to visit.

Paphos or Protaras: Beaches

An aerial view of a beach in Cyprus

To put it briefly, if you want a destination with stunning beaches on its doorstep, go to Protaras.

Paphos has beaches, but its beaches are smaller and get crowded much quicker. In Paphos, the sand can also feel quite gravelly and appear greyish in color, so its beaches are functional but lack that beach holiday aesthetic.

While both require traveling to reach, Coral Bay and Aphrodite’s Rock are the best beaches to visit. Lara Bay is also worth traveling to and has loggerhead and green turtles hatching on the beach from May to August.

On the other hand, Protaras is surrounded by long stretches of spacious sand beaches. You’ll find plenty of clear water for snorkeling (with turtle sightings if you are lucky), loungers to rent, and soft, bright-colored sand. Plus, there are party beaches like Nissi Beach in nearby Ayia Napa. Here, you’ll find foam parties and daytime DJs throughout the week.

Winner:  Protaras is our clear winner for this round.

Paphos or Protaras: Nature

A sea turtle

Choosing Paphos or Protaras based on nature is a little more difficult, as both destinations have forest parks and dolphins and sea turtles in their waters.

Protaras is a short drive from Cape Greco National Forest Park. In this national park, visitors have bike paths and trails to explore woodland and coast – which could entertain users for a whole weekend, never mind just as a day trip.

Paphos is also just a short drive from nature, with Akamas Peninsula National Park just north of the town. Akamas Peninsula National Park is also full of woodland and coast, perfect for those wanting a natural experience of Cyprus. The park is also known for its turtle nesting and has a serene, quiet atmosphere.

Paphos Forest is also north of Paphos, with Mount Olympos, the Troodos Mountains, and tiny villages to visit. In Paphos Forest, you’ll find lots of native and migratory animals – so keep your eyes peeled and bring a camera!

Our Winner:  This round is close, but Paphos narrowly takes the win. It has more nearby areas of protected nature to visit than Protaras.

Paphos or Protaras: Atmosphere

A surfer on the beach

Let’s start by saying that Paphos and Protaras both have friendly atmospheres. Whether you are traveling as a family, friend group, couple, or alone, both destinations will feel safe and welcoming. However, there are some general differences to consider.

Paphos is a city, so, unsurprisingly, it has a suburban feel. Paphos is centered around its harbor, restaurants, and shopping opportunities. It is best suited to travelers who want to souvenir shop and enjoy Cypriot food when they are not sightseeing.

In contrast, Protaras has a typical resort atmosphere and a strong beach culture. The heart of Protaras is its beachfront, and you’ll find all you need just seconds away from the beach – whether that be watersports rentals, lunch, or a bar to watch the football. Protaras is ideal for travelers who want to spend most of their holiday on the beach or in the water, perhaps taking one or two-day trips to sightseeing significant attractions.

Our Winner:  Atmosphere is a difficult factor to measure. However, Protaras is our winner for this round as it is less suburban and has a great beach culture.

Paphos or Protaras: Nightlife

A foam party

Cyprus is known for its nightlife, so it isn’t surprising that it is an important factor when choosing Paphos or Protaras.

Paphos certainly has a nightlife scene. You’ll find plenty of harbor-side bars and some beach clubs further down the coast. However, Protaras really steals the limelight for this round.

Protaras is only a twenty-minute drive from Ayia Napa, the party hub of Cyprus . Parties last all day and all night in Ayia Napa – from daytime foam, beach, and boat parties to massive clubs that stay open until sunrise.

Visitors to Protaras have the best of both worlds. You can enjoy the nightlife on your doorstep at local bars and pubs. You can also catch a taxi ride into Ayia Napa and indulge entirely in the wildest Cypriot nightlife possible. Protaras is head and shoulders above Paphos for its nightlife opportunities, and the area is famous for its lively partying.

Our Winner:  Protaras is our clear winner for this round. It has excellent access to Cyprus’ best nightlife.

Paphos or Protaras: Weather

The sun against a blue sky.

Okay, this is a tricky comparison point. The weather in Paphos and Protaras is mostly similar, so you won’t find a massive difference between the two. However, if the weather is really an essential factor , it might be worth considering these small differences.

For most of the year, Protaras is a couple of degrees warmer than Paphos and experiences fewer days with rainfall. The difference might be slight but could definitely impact your experience of Cyprus, especially if you only visit for a few days.

We’ve compiled a comparison table below using data on maximum daytime temperatures in  Protaras  and  Paphos  from Weather 2 Travel.

We’ve also compiled a comparative table using data on average rainy days per month in Protaras and Paphos.

Our Winner:  Protaras is our winner for this round, as it has fewer rainy days and is warmer for most of the year.

Paphos or Protaras: Accommodation

An upscale hotel with a pool

The accommodation choice in Paphos and Protaras is excellent. You’ll find a variety of budget, mid-range, and luxury options in both areas – although they are equally both at risk of being booked up for accommodation, so make your reservations in advance.

In Paphos, there is a selection of five-star properties, including  Elysium Hotel  and  The Ivi Mare , an adults-only hotel. There is also a range of hostels, which typically include free wi-fi and a pool like the  KATKA Hostel Paphos . KATKA has dormitory rooms priced at $46 per night, while five-star hotels range from $250 to $350 per night.

In Protaras, there is also a selection of five-star hotels, with some adult-only properties like  Sunrise Jade . While there are no hostels in the center, there are budget-friendly hotels. Some, like  Andreotis Hotel Apartments , have rooms for as little as $42 per night.

Our Winner:  This round is a draw, as both Paphos and Protaras have a great accommodation selection.

Paphos or Protaras: The Overall Winner

Our overall winner is Protaras.

Protaras is warmer, drier, has better nightlife, and has beautiful beaches. Paphos offers exciting things to do and plenty of history but, on the whole, we believe that Protaras is the best choice.

Protaras Shopping – Shops, Stores, Best Buys & Inside Tips

Protaras Shopping

A significant amount of shopping is found within the city of Protaras in Cyprus. While beautiful textiles and other items are available, inside tips help to improve the overall shopping experience.

What to Shop for in Protaras

One of the top items to shop for in the city is lace. This includes hand-made lace from Omodos and Lefkara, which has been famous for centuries. It comes in the form of napkins, tablecloths, and other items for the home.

Many liken the shopping to be similar to Turkey, though there are less “fake” items found here. Plan on shopping for shoes, clothes, and bags, especially on Nissi Avenue where there are some of the bigger shops. When purchasing clothing, look for the trademark sign woven into the garments.

Other things to shop for within the city include embroidered items, ceramics, gold and silver, reed baskets, and copperware, including antique hubble bubble pipes.

Leather Bags

Leather is one of the premium items to shop for while in Protaras. This could be trendy bags, leather suitcases, and various other items. Some areas, particularly within the North, are notorious for selling knock-off bags. This is something to be aware of. While you can save money, it won’t be the authentic brand you might think you are getting. Consider it a buyer beware.

Be Careful with Haggling

Cyprus is not like many of the Arab countries where haggling is encouraged and expected. It’s possible to ask for a small discount, and the shopkeeper might choose to give it to you. Much of it will depend on how much you’re spending in one location. The more you buy, the greater chance you have of getting a discount.

Editor’s note : The information contained on this page was compiled using real traveler reviews about shopping in Protaras.

Ubytovanie Standardní pokoj s bočním výhledem na moře z balkonu. Blízkost ostatních hotelů nebyl problém. Pokoj, koupelna nejsou nejnovější, ale udržované v nejlepším pořádku. Čistěno denně. Ručníky měněny denně. Vše fungovalo bezchybně a udržovalo se v čistotě. Mega pohodlná matrace do postele. Čištění klimatizace fungovalo.

Strava Jídla zjevení. Chutné a rozmanité.

Protaras má nebesky modré more a nádherné piesočnaté pláže, z ktorých najznámejšia je Fig Tree Bay.

Miesto jej narodenia nemohlo byť vybraté lepšie, členité pobrežie obmýva nádherné more, ktorého vlny rozprávajú príbehy viažuce sa k histórii tohto miesta. Nádherná prírodná scenéria a bohatosť kultúrnych pamiatok určite zaujme a očarí každého z návštevníkov.
