Girl Guides of Canada

Girl Guides of Canada is an organization for girls, led by women. It challenges girls to reach their potential and empowers them to give leadership and service as responsible citizens of the world. Membership fee financial assistance is available for those who qualify.

Target Population:

All self-identified girls and women from ages 5+, including:  Sparks   (aged 5-6),  Brownies  (aged 7-8),   Guides  (aged 9-11),  Pathfinders  (aged 12-14),  Rangers  (aged 15-17+), Trex (aged 12+), Adult Leaders (aged 19+),  Link  (aged 19-30), and  Trefoil Guild   (aged 30+).

Highlights of Programs/Services Offered:

Guiding provides a safe, all-girl environment that invites girls to challenge themselves, to find their voice, meet new friends, have fun and make a difference in the world. Girl Guides of Canada–Guides du Canada (GGC) strives to ensure that girls and women from all walks of life, identities and lived experiences feel a sense of belonging and can fully participate.

Challenges:  

  • Challenges explore a range of current topics of interest or concern, celebrations, the environment, different cultures, music and arts and more relevant and applicable to the lives of girls and young women.
  • How to order: Take a look at the crests below, and then complete the  online crest order form . If you have questions, please e-mail [email protected].
  • Purses 4 Purposes: can completed by any level of guiding. For this project you will need to collect personal care items and donate them to a shelter near you. Guides are encouraged to pack the items in a new or gently used purse before dropping off the items.
  • Express Yourself challenge: youth explore their artistic side and find a creative outlet for them. For this challenge you can work with your Guiders and the members of your unit to select challenges that fit your interests and resources
  • Provincial challenges: participate in a number of challenges including heritage, geocaching, Beaumont hamel, Nevaeh’s Acts of Kindness, Recognize, React and Repair, and April get moving challenge

  • Youth members an opportunity to make their voices heard and ensure youth have a say in Guiding in the province.

Camping Opportunities

  • Girl guides have the opportunity to develop leadership skills while learning an appreciation for the outdoors, and a respect for our environment

Travel Opportunities 

Girl guides will have the opportunity to participate in Independent and group provincial travel where they will explore different sites Within Canada 

Girl Awards and Recognition 

  • Provincial ‘Indigenous Spirit’ Youth Award: to recognize the efforts of outstanding Indigenous youth members of our organization. Awards are given to one Branch member in the following groups: Sparks/Embers, Guides/Pathfinders, and Rangers.
  • NL Ranger Award: Adheres to the guiding promises and law, is actively providing service in their communities, shows leadership among their peers and community, serves as role model for their peers  
  • Kay Penney “Love of Guiding” Provincial Award: Commemorating the four year term of our past provincial commissioner Kay Penney. Recognizes the efforts of an outstanding girl or youth member who exemplifies a true love of Guiding

Lone Program : 

Some girls who are unable to access a guiding unit because of distance, cost, etc. may register as a lone and complete programming via distance.
