Afternoon Tea in the Lake District: 7 Best Spots in 2024

Are you searching for the best afternoon tea in the Lake District? You’ve come to the right place.

England’s largest national park is famous not only for its breathtaking natural beauty but also for its world-class gastronomic offerings. It boasts an abundance of restaurants, cafés, breweries, and markets that are sure to delight discerning foodies.

Many hotels and tea rooms in the area offer the quintessential British experience of afternoon tea. While some perfect the classic offerings, others add a unique twist to this beloved tradition.

Having tried many afternoon teas while visiting the Lake District, I’ve compiled a list of my personal favourites.

The 7 Best Afternoon Tea Spots in the Lake District

No matter which part of the Lake District you’re visiting, you’ll find at least one spot serving afternoon tea nearby. Narrowing down the list of the very best is no easy task, but I’ve tried to cover different areas of the park, as well as a variety of styles and settings.

Hillthwaite Hotel

Afternoon tea at Hillthwaite Hotel in Windermere

Hillthwaite Hotel boasts an elevated position on top of a hill overlooking Lake Windermere, offering excellent views over the surrounding area. Guests can enjoy the scenery by taking their afternoon tea on the open-air terrace.

However, when my husband and I visited, the weather wasn’t great, so we ended up having ours in the restaurant. Be sure to secure a table by the bay windows in this case, so you can still enjoy the views.

Hillthwaite offers a traditional afternoon tea with dainty, but generously filled, finger sandwiches, fruit scones with clotted cream and jam, as well as a selection of sumptuous mini cakes.

A classic range of teas including Darjeeling, Earl Grey, and Assam completes the experience. You can also elevate your afternoon tea with a glass of prosecco. This is also one of the more affordable afternoon teas on this list.

Hillthwaite itself is located in a heritage building with plenty of charm and traditional features. It’s a great place to stay near Windermere if you would like to extend your trip.

Price: from £51.90 (US $65.90) for 2 people

Address: Thornbarrow Rd, Windermere LA23 2DF

The Wild Boar

Afternoon tea at the Wild Boar Inn near Windermere

Located just a short drive from Windermere, The Wild Boar offers a unique take on the British tradition of afternoon tea, perfect for those who prefer savoury delights.

As you enter The Wild Boar, you are welcomed by a crackling fire that sets the tone for the experience. The interiors boast a charming blend of tradition and warmth, characterised by exposed timber beams, antique furnishings, and snug fabrics.

The alternative afternoon tea features a hearty assortment of savoury finger foods, including smoked pigs in blankets, buttermilk crispy chicken, smoked salmon crostini, and beef sliders. Fear not, guests are also treated to scones and sweet treats such as chocolate brownies and lemon meringue tarts.

The tea selection features classic favourites like Earl Grey, Camomile, and Peppermint. Additionally, the afternoon tea experience includes a choice of Proseccos, Bellinis, or a beer bat. Personally, I opted for a peach Bellini, and it was excellent.

A vegetarian version of the afternoon tea is also available. Furthermore, guests have the option to enjoy theirs as a picnic. During our visit, the weather wasn’t great, so we were happy to enjoy ours in the cosy indoor setting.

Price: £35 (US $44.50) per person

Address: Crook Road, Windermere LA23 3NF

The Gilpin Hotel & Lake House

The Gilpin Hotel and Lake house is home to one of the best afternoon tea in the Lake District

The Gilpin is the quintessential Lake District luxury hotel, and its afternoon tea experience is an exquisite treat. It is served at the Gilpin Lake House, located on the shores of Knipe Tarn, a short drive from Bowness-on-Windermere.

We initially made the mistake of going to the main hotel on Crook Road. Thankfully, the course correction was swift and the drive to the Lake House short and easy.

There we’ve discovered a sense of seclusion and remoteness that felt almost surreal considering how close we were to some of the busiest towns in the Lake District. The lake setting was truly spectacular also, even on a rainy day when we visited.

There are only six rooms at the Lake House, but you don’t have to stay there to book an afternoon tea.  The cosy dining area where guests can take their afternoon tea is beautifully decorated and boasts idyllic lake views.

Enjoy sumptuous finger sandwiches with classic fillings with a twist and the perfectly fluffy scones. We also loved the unique touches such as a shot of warming soup and coronation chicken pani puri. The experience is completed with a beautiful selection of sweet treats that changes regularly.

The accompanying loose-leaf selection is not huge but includes all classics and a couple of creative varieties thrown in for good measures. I opted for the blood orange infusion that was perfectly balanced and refreshing.

You can elevate your experience with a glass of prosecco and champagne at an extra cost. Be sure to take a walk around the hotel’s beautiful grounds before or after your afternoon tea.

Price: from £30 (US $38.00) per person

Address: Crook Rd, Windermere LA23 3NE

Rothay Manor

Ambleside is one of the most popular destinations in the Lake District—and for good reason. This quaint town is packed with exciting indie shops, superb eateries, and serves as a great base for tackling some of the most scenic hiking trails in the national park.

Just a stone’s throw from Ambleside Town Centre, you will find Rothay Manor Hotel, one of the town’s most luxurious spots. Housed in a Grade II listed country house, Rothay Manor boasts an award-winning restaurant offering an all-day dining menu suitable for all occasions.

Here, you can also indulge in a traditional afternoon tea complete with an extensive selection of Jing loose leaf teas. Alternatively, you can opt for the excellent, locally roasted Farrer’s coffee.

The afternoon tea menu changes seasonally and features the best local produce. You can always expect to enjoy delightful finger sandwiches, scones, and sumptuous sweet treats though.

When the weather is good, you can also have your afternoon tea outside on the sun terrace.

Price: £29 (US $37.00) per person

Address: Borrans Rd, Ambleside LA22 0EH

Daffodil Hotel

The charming village of Grasmere punches well above its weight in culture, stunning scenery, and culinary delights. Whether you’re visiting places associated with poet William Wordsworth or enjoying lake walks, adding an afternoon tea to your itinerary is the perfect treat.

Located right on the shore of Lake Grasmere, the classy Daffodil Hotel and Spa offers a luxurious afternoon tea experience that perfects the traditional elements.

Start with a warming shot of carrot, honey, and ginger soup, then tuck into delicate finger sandwiches and fluffy scones. A delightful selection of sweets is also available, including clementine drizzle cake, cream doughnut, and passion fruit and vanilla shortbread.

You can choose either artisan Teapigs teas or Farrer’s coffee as your drink of choice. If you’d like to jazz it up a little, consider upgrading your experience with a glass of prosecco or a signature cocktail.

Price: £28.50 (US $36.40) per person

Address: By The Lake, Keswick Road, Grasmere LA22 9PR

The Inn on the Lake

Afternoon tea with a view at the Inn on the Lake in Ullswater

Ullswater is arguably one of Lake District’s most stunning spots and is my personal favourite. What could be better than a sumptuous afternoon tea as a reward for tackling the many hiking trails in the area?

The Inn on the Lake, nestled on the southern shore of Ullswater in the charming village of Glenridding, offers an unparalleled setting. This luxurious hotel seamlessly blends modern comforts with elegant heritage, boasting immaculate grounds with scenic lakeside views.

The afternoon tea is served in the Orangery, a striking space with floor-to-ceiling windows, an impressive fireplace and a glamorous crystal globe pendant. We got a table with lake views which made our experience even more special.

The afternoon tea features all the classic elements you would expect including finger sandwiches crafted with the fluffiest bread, excellent scones and a selection of dainty cakes and sweet treats.

The Inn on the Lake also includes some delicious savoury options including a sausage roll, brie and apple quiche and a caramelised onion muffin, which added a nice twist to the experience. My personal highlights include the unusual blackcurrant cheesecake and the mouthwatering dark chocolate and apricot slice.

The hot drink selection features premium Twinings tea and coffees. For an extra treat, you can add a glass of prosecco, champagne or even a cocktail to your experience.

Price: £32 (US $40.70) per person

Address: Ullswater, Glenridding CA11 0PE

Bassenthwaite Lake Station Tea Room

Bassenthwaite Lake Station Tea Room arguably offers one of the most unique settings for an afternoon tea in the Lake District.

This elegant café is situated at a restored railway station that was once part of the Cockermouth to Keswick line. It features a full-size replica steam train, which was used in Kenneth Branagh’s 2017 film, ‘Murder on the Orient Express.’

Afternoon tea is served in the art deco Salon carriage, transporting you back to the glamorous 1930s. The menu changes seasonally, but always includes an extensive selection of both savoury and sweet treats.

Finger sandwiches and scones are permanent features of this afternoon tea. For an additional cost, you can enhance your experience with a glass of prosecco.

You can request a table for an afternoon tea here .

Price: from £30 (US $38.00) per person; £32 per person from 1 September 2024

Address: Bassenthwaite Lake, Cockermouth CA13 9YL

Lakeside Hotel Windermere

The best afternoon tea experience on lake windermere, by tracey cragg 18th june 2018 food & drink.

best afternoon tea experience on Lake Windermere

Everything is Better in Two’s…Best Afternoon Tea & Grand Getaways

Take tea, eat cake & find quite the handsome hideaway, at the lakeside hotel & spa.

Sometimes a little bit of indulgent luxury, can be quite the tonic for that spark of romance, escapism and to just be…well…somewhere other than home.  The blink-and-you-will-miss-it pace of the world does its very best to ensure that life revolves around all work and no play to be seen or heard of.

Then there are homework handouts; rainy-day football matches to spectate; endless hours of ballet pirouettes; unhinged birthday parties and a social calendar that starts and ends with the children.  Although, all these recreational and educational morsels are somewhat tedious in nature, they are what transpires

as a normal family life and a happily fulfilling one at that.  We do not want to eliminate these things, but a tiny break from it all, is much-needed now and then.  Perhaps, an extra special anniversary getaway?  Or a handful of nights full of relaxation, Fine Dining and a dwelling place to just ‘be’.  All sound hugely familiar?  Maybe it is time to cart the children off to the grandparents; dust down that trusty leather suitcase; pack that novel that has been collecting dust and head to Windermere and peaceful bliss, at The Lakeside Hotel.

Laze and gaze out on The Terrace, for practically the prettiest view of Lake Windermere, in all its’ glistening glory.  Embrace Mother Nature herself, as cruises hum by; swans glide; ducks bob and Lakeland lovers row through the ripples, with smiles on faces.  Find inspiration amongst the English cou ntryside; sip the best loose-leaf tea; relish in the succulent afternoon tea sandwiches and delve into soft sponge, in manner of a very eclectic Alice and Wonderland Tea Party.  For the Lakeside Hotel proudly serves quite the unique take on a vintage tradition, with a background of lush greenery and a vivid pop of colour from their garden’s swaying flowers.  So, roll out your napkin, sit back, enjoy the moment and the finest Afternoon Tea experience, with a terrific twist.

The English ‘way’ of Afternoon Tea etiquette, is to eat one’s sandwiches first, with fingers not cutlery.  Then the scones, where one should break in two, by hand not with a knife.  Each half eaten separately blah, blah, blah.  It is time to shoo away old bygone traditions and make way for a concoction of madness and vitality.

Head Chef, Richard Booth’s brave approach to this alternative Afternoon Tea is somewhat intriguing. He miraculously mixes modern with lines that are crisp and polished.  A visual explosion of colour inspired by his regular strolls through the grounds of Lakeside.  The savoury and sweet treats on the stark white plates, reminiscent of the floral treats amongst The Terrace and beyond. Giving Mother Nature and her gracefulness the recognition she very much deserves.  When you talk about food with Richard, his face lights up with incredible animation and is always proud as punch to share his knowledge and experience, with a Cheshire-cat-smile that never leaves.

lake district cruise and afternoon tea

When discussing his Afternoon tea, he states,

“I wanted to make it more of an event, rather than just Afternoon Tea, so guests can laze around all afternoon. This is why I wanted to break up the courses, so they do not feel as if they have to eat everything at the same time”

Basically, this experience is no ‘Average Jo’ affair, it is a rarity filled with a plethora of sensations, textures, colours and unbeatable presentation.  It is as though you are looking through the looking glass and peering out at what this English tradition should really look like.  Afternoon Tea, here at The Lakeside, starts with a fresh and vibrantly chilled cucumber soup, which wakes up your senses ready for the extraordinary feast that awaits you.  Then there is a splendid host of sandwiches, followed by a rainbow tower of cakes.  A tower that tells a story, evokes memories and captivates all at once.  There is a feathery raspberry mousse in a candy-cane-striped soft sponge and a white chocolate mousse with an alfonso mango centre, embraced with a mango mirror glaze.  A velvety vanilla and creamy chocolate cookie graces your plate and an enticingly exotic passionfruit and coconut éclair.

There are also beautiful buttermilk scones; perfect lime-green pea and mint macaroons and a zesty strawberry sandwich encased with crème fresh Chantilly cream.  Said cake pays homage to the classic Victoria sponge, named after Queen Victoria, whom was thought to have been the first to ‘do’ Afternoon Tea.  The finish is just as exciting, as you spoon Granny Smith Apple sorbet into your mouth, to refresh the palate and undergo a cold awakening, back home, to your loved one and The Terrace, after your tasteful journey.

During this afternoon event, you will sip from fine porcelain, encasing the most breath-taking and distinctively different loose-leaf teas.  Teas that are cleverly and carefully chosen. They do not overshadow the array of sandwiches and cakes before you. Be introduced to Blue Lady, an Earl Grey tea excluding bergamot and laced with grapefruit flowers, for that punch of citrus zing. Indulge in the Silver Needles tea, a white tea that is soft in taste but still has the amazing ability to refresh.  Perhaps because it is lovingly picked at dawn with only the top two leaves being chosen. This is so that the shoots do not open in sunlight and not cause chlorophyll to manifest within it’s leaves.

A very scientific statement, but Richard cares about how the taste of the tea in your cup, should be just as super special as the cakes you nibble upon. Jasmine Pearl tea is also present, hand rolled little pearls of jasmine heaven that may have quite the impressive price tag, along with the Silver Needles tea, but will always enliven and tantalize those willing taste buds.  Their slow-dried Orange and Passionfruit tea is simple but practically packed full of flavour that gleams bright within your cup.

We think that Richard has created and designed an awe-inspiring event, that will leave you speechless, as the flavours dance and the experience is stored within your memories.  When talking about his ingredients, Richard says that,

“Food is personal to me.  From locally sourced jams to far away mangos, this Afternoon tea is for someone who wants a tea and cake journey”

After all is sipped, eaten and appreciated.  Feast upon the landscapes of the hotel and its’ sparkling Lake view. Maybe paddle out on their rowing boat, for a spot of romance and a splash of adventure upon the water.  You can stay here just that little bit longer, as The Lakeside offers the most desirable deal, with four nights for the price of three.  Experience more together here, for a breakaway from the madness and mayhem of reality and embrace the luxury of a superior hotel.  Everything the Lakeside presents, and delivers is the reason why it is one of the best getaways for couples in the UK, alongside one of the best hotel deals, within the Lake District.

The Lake District Rail Tour with Cream Tea & Cruise

If you're into national parks and infinite green areas, you'll love this tour. Journey through Lake District, England's largest National Park, renowned for its idyllic landscapes and sceneries and charming market towns. Travel on a full-day rail tour to the Lake District, where the beauty of nature unfolds in all its glory, a landscape that inspired the beloved tales of Beatrix Potter.

On this experience, you'll start with a scenic cruise across the serene waters of Lake Windermere, a postcard-like picturesque region. Then, treat yourself to a delightful Cream Tea experience amidst the peaceful surroundings. Book your rail experience today and see why this region has captured the imaginations of many poets, artists, and nature enthusiasts alike.

London Euston Station

Begin your day at London's Euston Station and hop on a train to Oxenholme. Gaze out the window as you pass through the calming English countryside with its rolling hills and bucolic landscapes.

Upon arrival in Oxenholme, meet your local guide for a tour through the quaint and artsy Lake District, famous for its literary connections to children's book author Beatrix Potter.

From here, we will head towards the tranquil beauty spot of Tarn Hows , where we will stop for photos before heading into the Langdale Valley.

Derived from the Old Norse term for 'long valley', this stunning glacial valley is decorated with silver waterfalls and impressive rock scenery.

Travel to the charming medieval village of Hawkshead, where you'll have time to explore. Hawkshead is a village of cobbled alleys, characterful squares and whitewashed houses in the valley between Windermere and Coniston. It is home to the Old Grammar School, founded in 1585, where the famous Lake District poet, William Wordsworth , studied. After Hawkshead, we will make our way to Hill Top Farm , the former home of Beatrix Potter and the inspiration for so many of her characters. We will also stop to admire the scenic views from Tarn Hows, a tranquil Lake District beauty spot.

Hill Top Farm is only open between April and October. During the winter months, instead, guests will visit the World of Beatrix Potter, where famous authors' stories, such as Peter Rabbit's, are brought to life in a magical interactive exhibition.

You will see incredible scenery as you venture into the heart of the Lake District from Hawkshead, with plenty of photo stops along the way. Visit the Langdale Valley and Blea Tarn, a beautiful body of water.

Arrive in Waterhead and board a boat for a scenic cruise across Lake Windermere, the largest lake in England. Sit back and take in breathtaking views of the peaceful Lakeland Fells as you glide along toward Bowness Bay.

Complete this bewitching experience in a truly British way—with traditional Cream Tea at the Lindeth Howe Country House Hotel, which was once owned by Beatrix Potter herself. Enjoy tea and scones , and soak in the views of some of the famous author's favourite countryside that provided the inspiration for her novels.

Want to extend your stay in the Lake District? Why not choose to add an overnight stay at a local three-star hotel? Prices are per person, based on two people staying in a double/twin room. (Single room supplement applies)

Euston Station is centrally located and easily accessible by underground, serviced by the Victoria and Northern Lines and is in Zone 1.

Afternoon Tea in the Lakes

The Best Afternoon Tea In The Lake District

Travel , UK | September 25, 2020

This post contains affiliate links, which means I may make a small commission if you buy anything mentioned here. It doesn't cost you anything extra.

During our Lake District road trip in our loaned VW campervan, we were happy to rough it most of the time. You know I appreciate the finer things in life though, so I was very pleased to be invited to review afternoon tea at the Henrock Lounge in Linthwaite House by their PR representative.

Linthwaite House Lake District

Linthwaite House sits atop a hill overlooking Lake Windermere. The views from their terrace out to the water, with the Coniston Hills beyond, is truly spectacular.

Henrock is two Michelin starred chef Simon Rogan ‘s latest venture, located within the hotel. The Lounge is its more laid-back dining and bar area.

What a treat! Linthwaite House’s offering has to be the best luxury afternoon tea in the entire Lake District. This is a place I’ll be raving about for a long time. If you’re looking for the best afternoon tea in Windermere and, in my opinion, the entire Lake District, read on…

Why the Henrock Lounge at Linthwaite House has the best Lake District afternoon tea

We dined in Henrock Lounge’s conservatory, throwing the occasional wistful glance out to the terrace. When the weather is fine, I definitely recommend taking afternoon tea at Linthwaite House al fresco!

Linthwaite House's conservatory bar

The Henrock Lounge is tastefully decorated in sumptuous fabrics. Throughout the hotel and its grounds, there are woodland creature sculptures that create a relieving sense of playfulness in the otherwise elegant atmosphere.

Woodland creatures at Linthwaite House

Our waiter was a lovely guy who chatted amiably with us about the best places to visit in the Lake District. He offered me a glass of what instantly became my new favourite drink: a tantalising sparkling rosé wine, made exclusively for Simon Rogan to serve in his restaurant.

Simon Rogan's sparkling rose served at Linthwaite House

‘Exton Park with Simon Rogan’ Rosé NV is like nothing I’ve tasted before. I thanked our waiter for introducing me to it, and I’m just gutted I can’t buy a bottle to drink at home!

Review of Afternoon Tea at Linthwaite House

As we slowly unfurled in the afternoon sun that streams into the conservatory and let the rosé slip down, our afternoon tea was presented to us with a flourish. Too abundant to be contained to just one classic cake stand, Linthwaite House’s afternoon tea is impressive thanks to its sheer quantity at first glance. An array of dishes were placed before us.

Best afternoon tea in Windermere Lake District

To start, traditional finger sandwiches made with pleasingly soft fresh bread (Henrock uses local ingredients including produce from their farm, which is located a few miles away in the Cartmel Valley).

Best afternoon tea sandwiches in the Lake District

The selection included the British staples: egg and cress, lashings of smoked salmon with dill cream cheese and cucumber, ham, and Lincolnshire Poacher cheese with damson jam – the latter of which even Tom demolished, and he’s a fussy eater!

The scones were plain and fruited, with the customary jam and clotted cream, plus lemon curd. I’ve never had lemon curd on an afternoon tea before and it’s definitely something I can get on board with!

Scones at Henrock, Linthwaite House

Next, we tackled the carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. The two slices come out on their own dish, giving them the air of a bonus prize on top of the cake stand’s top tier. The frosting was wonderfully creamy and the cake had a perfect combination of sweetness and spice.

Carrot cake at Henrock in the Lake District

Even the waiter was surprised that we managed to chomp through the sweet treats. There was a raspberry sablé breton with vanilla cream, a seriously indulgent chocolate eclair with chocolate crémeaux and a delightfully boozy cherry & sherry trifle.

Exploring Linthwaite House’s grounds

Upon our waiter’s recommendation, we decided to take a walk in the hotel grounds after our feast.

Oh, how glad I am that we did! Linthwaite House has the most stunning gardens I’ve seen in England. Yes, I did award a Yorkshire hotel with that very professional legit title a while back, but Linthwaite House takes the cake!

Linthwaite House in the Lake District exterior

A wander away from the sun terrace reveals a giant chess set, and to the other side of the land there’s a boules pitch.

Chess set at Linthwaite House

Up through the woodlands and past more enchanting animal sculptures, you’ll find a hidden swing that is all kinds of Instagram-friendly. Swinging in it feels like you’re launching yourself straight across Lake Windermere!

Linthwaite House swing

We had to look hard for it, but we eventually found the boating lake that our waiter had mentioned. How serene?!

Tarn at Linthwaite House

There are two rowing boats that guests can take onto the still, tranquil tarn – if you can rouse the ducks from their slumber, that is.

Boating lake at Linthwaite House

The tarn also has a small cabin which would be the perfect place for a romantic afternoon with a bottle of fizz and a picnic. Can you imagine a more perfect hideaway?

We were in awe at the beauty of Linthwaite House and agreed that we’d book a night there for our first wedding anniversary. We just need to successfully tie the knot in Italy first, after a series of setbacks !

I highly recommend afternoon tea at the Henrock Lounge in Linthwaite House if you’re looking to celebrate a special occasion in the Lake District. Our afternoon tea in Windermere was a very memorable experience for us and one that will provide the benchmark for afternoon teas to come.

I challenge you to find a more luxurious afternoon tea in the Lake District in finer surroundings. Go on, try.

As mentioned at the beginning of this post, I was invited to experience afternoon tea at Linthwaite House on a complimentary basis in exchange for sharing my views. This is not a sponsored post.

Restaurant photos courtesy of Este

You might not think of seafood when it comes to Texas, but when it comes to   Este , think again. This buzzy seafood restaurant puts a Mexican twist on dishes like fried fish tacos on house-made tortillas and camarones “el ricas” – shell-on shrimp with lime, cilantro, and chile costeño garlic butter. Be sure to pop into sister spot   Bar Toti , which takes inspiration from Spanish bar culture, for a pre- or post-dinner cocktail.

The star at this Mexican-inspired hotspot (which shares a chef with Este) is the masa, made in-house from heirloom corn. Come to Suerte for the masa in all its many iterations and stay for the inventive cocktail list, which incorporates unexpected ingredients like yaupon tea and tomato brine.

2X Membership Rewards Points – Basic Card Members with a Membership Rewards-enrolled Card get at least 1 Membership Rewards® point for every eligible dollar spent on their Membership Rewards program-enrolled American Express Card or Additional Card on their Account and will also get at least 1 additional point (for a total of 2 points) for each dollar charged for eligible Select Homes + Retreats purchases on any Card on the Account, minus cancellations and credits.

3X Membership Rewards Points – Green Card: Basic Card Members, when paying with their eligible Green Card or Additional Card on their Account, can earn 2 additional points (for a total of 3 points) for each dollar charged for eligible Select Homes + Retreats purchases on any Card on the Account, minus cancellations and credits.

5X Membership Rewards Points – Platinum Card: Basic Card Members, when paying with their eligible Platinum Card or Additional Card on their Account, can earn 4 additional points (for a total of 5 points) for each dollar charged for eligible Select Homes + Retreats purchases on any Card on the Platinum Card Account, minus cancellations and credits. Additional points will be credited to the Membership Rewards account 10-12 weeks after final payment is made.

$200 Hotel Credit:  Basic Card Members on U.S. Consumer Platinum Card Account are eligible to receive up to $200 in statement credits per calendar year when they or Additional Platinum Card Members use their Cards to pay for eligible prepaid Fine Hotels + Resorts® and The Hotel Collection bookings made through American Express Travel (meaning through amextravel.com, the Amex® App, or by calling the phone number on the back of your eligible Card) or when Companion Platinum Card Members on such Platinum Card Accounts pay for eligible prepaid bookings for The Hotel Collection made through American Express Travel (meaning through amextravel.com, the Amex® App, or by calling the phone number on the back of your eligible Card). Purchases by both the Basic Card Member and any Additional Card Members on the Card Account are eligible for statement credits. However, the total amount of statement credits for eligible purchases will not exceed $200 per calendar year, per Card Account. Fine Hotels + Resorts® program bookings may be made only by eligible U.S. Consumer Basic Platinum and Additional Platinum Card Members. The Hotel Collection bookings may be made by eligible U.S. Consumer Basic and Additional Platinum Card Members and Companion Platinum Card Members on the Platinum Card Account. Delta SkyMiles® Platinum Card Members are not eligible for the benefit. To receive the statement credits, an eligible Card Member must make a new booking using their eligible Card through American Express Travel on or after July 1st, 2021, that is prepaid (referred to as "Pay Now" on amextravel.com and the Amex App), for a qualifying stay at an available, participating Fine Hotels + Resorts or The Hotel Collection property. Bookings of The Hotel Collection require a minimum stay of two consecutive nights. Eligible bookings must be processed before December 31st, 11:59PM Central Time, each calendar year to be eligible for statement credits within that year. Eligible bookings do not include interest charges, cancellation fees, property fees or other similar fees, or any charges by a property to you (whether for your booking, your stay or otherwise).

Statement credits are typically received within a few days, however it may take 90 days after an eligible prepaid hotel booking is charged to the Card Account. American Express relies on the merchant’s processing of transactions to determine the transaction date. The transaction date may differ from the date you made the purchase if, for example, there is a delay in the merchant submitting the transaction to us or if the merchant uses another date as the transaction date. This means that in some cases your purchase may not earn the statement credit benefit for the benefit period in which you made the purchase. For example, if an eligible purchase is made on December 31st but the merchant processes the transaction such that it is identified to us as occurring on January 1st, then the statement credit available in the next calendar year will be applied. Statement credits may not be received or may be reversed if the booking is cancelled or modified. If the Card Account is canceled or past due, it may not qualify to receive a statement credit. If American Express does not receive information that identifies your transaction as eligible, you will not receive the statement credits. For example, your transaction will not be eligible if it is a booking: (i) made with a property not included in the Fine Hotels + Resorts or The Hotel Collection programs, (ii) not made through American Express Travel, or (iii) not made with an eligible Card. Participating properties and their availability are subject to change. If American Express, in its sole discretion, determines that you have engaged in or intend to engage in any manner of abuse, misuse, or gaming in connection with this benefit, American Express will not have an obligation to provide and may reverse any statement credits provided to you. If a charge for an eligible purchase is included in a Pay Over Time balance on your Card Account, the statement credit associated with that charge may not be applied to that Pay Over Time balance. Instead, the statement credit may be applied to your Pay In Full balance. Please refer to  AmericanExpress.com/FHR  and  AmericanExpress.com/HC  for more information about Fine Hotels + Resorts and The Hotel Collection, respectively.

5X Membership Rewards® Points Platinum Card:  Basic Card Members will get 1 Membership Rewards® point for each dollar charged for eligible purchases on their Platinum Card® or an Additional Card on their Account and 4 additional points (for a total of 5 points) for each dollar charged for eligible travel purchases on any Card on the Account (“Additional Points”), minus cancellations and credits. Eligible travel purchases are limited to: (i) purchases of air tickets on scheduled flights, of up to $500,000 in charges per calendar year, booked directly with passenger airlines or through American Express Travel (by calling 1-800-525-3355 or through AmexTravel.com); (ii) purchases of prepaid hotel reservations booked through American Express Travel; and (iii) purchases of prepaid flight+hotel packages booked through AmexTravel.com. Eligible travel purchases do not include: charter flights, private jet flights, flights that are part of tours, cruises, or travel packages (other than prepaid flight+hotel packages booked through AmexTravel.com), ticketing or similar service fees, ticket cancellation or change fees, property fees or similar fees, hotel group reservations or events, interest charges, or purchases of cash equivalents. Eligible prepaid hotel bookings or prepaid flight+hotel bookings that are modified directly with the hotel will not be eligible for Additional Points.

Bonuses that may be received with your Card on other purchase categories or in connection with promotions or offers from American Express cannot be combined with this benefit. Any portion of a charge that the Basic Card Member elects to cover through redemption of Membership Rewards points is not eligible to receive points. Additional terms and restrictions apply.

Merchants are assigned codes based on what they primarily sell. We group certain merchant codes into categories that are eligible for Additional Points. A purchase with a merchant will not earn Additional Points if the merchant’s code is not included in an Additional Points category. Basic Card Members may not receive Additional Points if we receive inaccurate information or are otherwise unable to identify your purchase as eligible for an Additional Points category. For example, you may not receive Additional Points when: a merchant uses a third-party to sell their products or services, a merchant uses a third-party to process or submit your transaction to us (e.g., using mobile or wireless card readers), or you choose to make a purchase using a third-party payment account or make a purchase using a mobile or digital wallet.

To be eligible for this benefit, the Card Account must not be cancelled. If American Express, in its sole discretion, determines that you have engaged in or intend to engage in any manner of abuse, misuse, or gaming in connection with this benefit in any way American Express may remove access to this benefit from the Account. For additional information, call the number on the back of your Card or visit americanexpress.com/rewards-info for more information about rewards.

To modify a reservation you must cancel and rebook your reservation. You can cancel and rebook your reservation on AmexTravel.com or by calling a representative of AmexTravel.com at 1-800-297-2977. Cancellations are subject to hotel cancellation penalty policies. If hotel reservations are made or modified directly with the hotel provider, the reservation will not be eligible for this 5X Membership Rewards® point benefit. To be eligible to receive extra points, Card account(s) must not be cancelled or past due at the time of extra points fulfillment. If booking is cancelled, the extra points will be deducted from the Membership Rewards account. Extra points will be credited to the Membership Rewards account approximately 6-10 weeks after eligible purchases appear on the billing statement. Additional point bonuses you may receive with your Card on other purchase categories from American Express may not be combined with this benefit (e.g., 1.5X and 2X bonuses for Business Platinum Card Members, etc.). Purchases eligible for multiple additional point bonuses will only receive the highest eligible bonus. The benefits associated with the Additional Card(s) you choose may be different than the benefits associated with your basic Card. To learn about the benefits associated with Additional Card(s) you choose, please call the number on the back of your Card.

Please visit americanexpress.com/rewards-info for more information about rewards.

Pay with Points:  To use Pay with Points, you must charge your eligible purchase through American Express Travel to a Membership Rewards® program-enrolled American Express® Card. Eligible purchases through American Express Travel exclude non-prepaid car rentals and non-prepaid hotels. Points will be debited from your Membership Rewards account, and credit for corresponding dollar amount will be issued to the American Express Card account used. If points redeemed do not cover entire amount, the balance of purchase price will remain on the American Express Card account. Minimum redemption 5,000 points.

See  membershiprewards.com/terms  for the Membership Rewards program terms and conditions.

If a charge for a purchase is included in a Pay Over Time balance on your Linked Account the statement credit associated with that charge may not be applied to that Pay Over Time balance. Instead the statement credit may be applied to your Pay in Full balance. If you believe this has occurred, please contact us by calling the number on the back of your Card. Corporate Card Members are not eligible for Pay Over Time.

Generally, same-day reservations that are not booked by GDA members are released back to restaurants at certain times of day that vary across restaurant policies. American Express and Resy make no representations or warranties regarding the availability of reservations, events, and/or experiences, which shall at all times be subject to availability and the discretion of the applicable restaurant. American Express and Resy are not responsible for informing the restaurants of any dietary restrictions or for a restaurant being able to accommodate such restrictions. There is no cost to you for booking services through GDA, although you are responsible for any purchases or fees you authorize to be charged to your Card account. GDA reservations and events are intended for personal use only and cannot be resold or used for commercial purposes. By participating in the GDA program, you are accepting these GDA terms and conditions, which are in addition to and do not replace the Resy Sites’ Terms of Service.
